NWOBHM legends Iron Maiden ignite on their 1980 debut (EMI CD reissue), 8 tracks of raw power. From “Prowler” to “Phantom of the Opera,” Paul Di’Anno’s snarls ride Steve Harris’ galloping bass and dual-guitar harmonies. The digipak includes a 16-page booklet of Eddie art and liner notes. A cornerstone of heavy metal history. Runtime: ~38 minutes. Review: Solid remaster - This is a review for the 2015 remastered black vinyl, purchased in 2026. Very straightforward no nonsense kind of re-issue. No extra bells and whistles just a well made outer sleeve and plain inner sleeve, presumably modeled after the original pressing. The vinyl is high-quality and thick and I assume it's 180 g which would be an upgrade from the original most likely. I think I read people complaining that Sanctuary isn't on here, and while I agree it's kind of silly not to include that song, it was not on the original UK pressing as far as I know because it was originally released as a standalone single. The North American version had Sanctuary on it and then they started including it on all versions after that. So it's not really 100% accurate to say that "a song is missing" from this version. I'm guessing it's a similar scenario with the Killers remaster, which is "missing" Twilight Zone. Sound wise it's about as clean a version as I've ever heard of this album, and I think I noticed a few sounds I never noticed before but it could be my imagination. It has noticeably less hiss than my older copy which may translate to a reduction in treble, where the brutal harshness tends to be. But this is also where some might say the definition hangs out and so people might complain it sounds quiet or neutered. The problem here is you can't have your cake and eat it too - meaning the original recording was not of the highest quality and the mix probably could have been better and so there is only so much a remaster can do. Ultimately I think they chose to soften the brittle highs and beef up/clarify the lows which is a good call in my opinion. I think they did a very good job on this one myself and I look forward to cranking it up very loud for years to come! What these first couple Iron Maiden albums really need is a good remix, which means someone has to go in there and readjust all the individual volumes and EQs using modern technology and the result would be a much better sounding album technically but purists will say this is sacrilege and that it should remain in its original pure form. This is why some bands choose to include both mixes in their re-issues I don't see why iron maiden doesn't do this but Steve Harris is probably real touchy about it all or maybe it's just a money thing? Up the irons! Review: Iron maiden first album - Excellent album definitely worth owning this one and killers, there's great songs on here this is the 2015 remaster it sounds great for me.

One of the best debuts ever recorded
Iron Maiden's self-titled first album, which also proved to be their breakthrough, is doubtlessly one of heavy metal's all-time most influential albums (with this release, Iron Maiden helped Judas Priest to plant the seeds for speed, thrash, and progressive metal.) It's also one of the finest debuts ever recorded by any band in the history of heavy metal. The band's vocals would become more memorable and expansive on later releases (especially after Bruce Dickinson replaced Paul Di'anno as singer in 1982), but musically, Iron Maiden were in top form on this 1980 album. There's just so much to enjoy on every one of these songs, and man, do they rock! They're fast, exciting, catchy, and super infectious. From front to back, this disc has palpable energy, irresistible hooks, impressive guitar work (including wailing solos) from Dave Murray and Dennis Stratton, prominent bass notes, and bouncy, toe-tapping drum beats galore! The album begins with "Prowler," which ties wah-wah guitar licks with bouncy riffs, strong bass work, and a great solo. After that, "Sanctuary" boasts a propulsive bass line (which is the main focal point of the song) and two wailing solos. "Remember Tomorrow" begins as a ballad (with restrained verses, a grumbling bass, and all kinds of guitar melodies and harmonies), but gains a great deal of momentum and speed and climaxes in a wide-open, majestically soaring and instantly memorable chorus. Next, "Running Three" is a faster number that's backed by a hooky, galloping rhythm and rhythmic, thumping drums. The record's crown jewel and fan favorite, "Phantom of the Opera" (which is an epic, multi-faceted and mostly instrumental piece that clocks in at over seven minutes long), and track seven, "Strange World," both sport a wealth of great harmonies, a catchy rhythm, and numerous fantastic, ultra-clean and melodic guitar solos. "Transylvania," a propulsive instrumental which features soaring guitar leads anchored by a beeping bass line, is another instant classic. "Strange World" is a calm, superbly atmospheric power ballad which finds Paul Di'anno showing off his impressive singing voice over twinkling guitar noise and gently tapping drums. And finally, the album wraps up with two of the fastest and catchiest tunes: "Charlotte the Harlot" and "Iron Maiden." Almost no other band has ever come close to duplicating the originality, excitement, energy, timless songwriting, power, infectious hooks, gorgeous melody, virtuosic musicianship, and all-around greatness heard on this album. Thus, "Iron Maiden" is a definite milestone on heavy metal's timeline, and a true five-star album if there ever were one. It is an absolutely essential inclusion for all heavy metal collections (and music collections in general) worldwide -- it's just one of those C.D.'s that you need to own or you will forever be un-metal!

Read the track list before purchasing
Excellent album but it’s missing a big piece! The song “Sanctuary” is missing! I guess I should have paid attention to the track list but I assumed it would be the entire album. Somewhat disappointing!

These stars is for the album itself and a delightful Amazon Customer support. The package arrived bent on all corners and the edges were peeled off. I expressed my disappointment and the CS resolved with full refund of the money. Though I’d have expected a replacement, guess since this was from another seller may be there were complications so Amazon decides to refund the entire money and that happens within 6 hrs. of expressing my concern. BRILLIANT!!! Amazon please keep up the service at this standard and delight us THE CUSTOMERS. Coming back to the Vinyl itself, I’m a Maiden fan so I may be biased. The recording may not have the finesse of their later releases and Maiden themselves were not happy with the production. I however love the raw sound of the album. Will Malone did not work with Maiden again. Being an amateur to LPs this is my 2nd LP and already loving the sound. I have this album on all 3 formats and I like the analog sound the MOST :)

All time favorite
