$12.50 for a Solid Misunderstood XBOne Title (Get It Now)
I really like this game I'm not gonna lie and act to cool and just trash this game like all the gaming trolls love to do I seen the first trailer i like everyone else did get fooled by it but, that's should be all "our" fault as gamer's We've allowed publisher to trick us with smoke and mirrors for years now and 85% we'll give 'em a pass Lord COD, Battlefield, Destiny can do no wrong keep buying those yearly money grabs and all the over priced DLC But, condemn Thief for missing the mark a little Thief is the re-imagining of the loved first person stealth title If you are a uber FPS grinder this game might not be for you you have to think before you react you can go in guns blazing but, it's better to stick to the shadows and be sneaky The controls @ first are a bit odd but, you get use to how to move everything becomes second nature The Story is interesting and well written with plenty of twist and turns through-out it's one of those smarts stories that have these strange plot twist you will not see coming trust me! The Set Pieces are also very strong you get some great areas to explore and play around in A Sex Club (everything going around you is scripted events but, the way it was done you can't tell) It's very organic and tightly crafted this mission will catch you off guard If you've been playing games since the 8bit era..... this mission was unique and very refreshing! A Massive Stand Out Level is a run-down haunted hospital/asylum (this level alone makes the $12.50 purchase worth it trust me) It's on the same level as Alien Isolation it's so creepy and just flat out perfect it Pops and will give you goose bumps this one level alone is more scary then the whole (3-disc Resident Evil 6 game) that's how flat out impressive it is Graphics/Audio I first plaid Thief on the 360 mostly cause at the time I only had my 360! I loved the game but, it had no business being put, on a console that old It looked outdated, ugly washed-out and just plain ugly! The Xbox One version looks 10x's different in PQ the colors look right, the water looks alive (Is it truly next Gen??? yes and no it woun't blow you away but, if you compare it to the base copy the 360 version is they are truly night and day trust me! there's probably somewhere online with screen shots comparing the two in PQ etc. the audio is also much better it being decode in DTS 5.1 If you have XBLive you may have got Thief (free) with Games with Gold on the 360 If you are like me and have both consoles it's worth getting the XOne copy of Thief the game should've never been put on the 360 Don't judge this game by the 360 version Now with the price being this low nobody who owns a XBox One should ignore this title hell $12.50 that's a awesome deal for a triple A title That way you'll have every right to c/o if the game does suck if you put 3-4 hrs into it and don't enjoy it for the low low price! Thief and Dishonored are two great games that are two different sides of the same coin A very misunderstood game attacked just because it would be safe to go after a Title like Thief a Re-make 9/10 My Microsoft GamerTag Duckman 1979

Game is for a very specific type of player
First let me say, this is not your typical type of game. The point of Thief is to AVOID head on conflict. If you enjoy watching your prey from the shadows to develop a plan of attack and knocking them out, or slipping by them unnoticed to steal your objective, then this is your type of game. This game takes patience and strategy so if you are looking for a shooter, this game is probably not for you. I love stealth games and this series is what started me on them. I've played all of the games in the Thief franchise and my quick summary: "Is it as good as the original?" No. "Is it still a good Thief game?" Yes. "Would i buy it again if I could do it over?" Yes. The voice acting starts off a little slow and in my opinion, did not match the anti-hero darkness of Garret as I remembered him. However, once you get through the first chapter the game opens up and everything gets a lot better. In between chapters you have side mission you can get from your fence and a whole non-liner world to explore and steal from. In the chapters, it does become more liner but the game really rewards you for exploring. You can find hidden rooms and paths that lead you to new puzzles and treasures. So far, it's a great game and different from anything else out there. One thing I forgot to mention. There is a level with full on nudity in this game. Bare breasts and something akin to soft core porn.

Unique, True to the Series, but with Some Kinks
I've been playing the Thief series for a long time. The first two were classics, while the third took too many chances and 'felt' like a different game at times. And that's the important thing with this series: the atmosphere, the 'feel'. I was extremely happy to hear they were making a new Thief game, as I always thought it deserved another game. The Thief community has been VERY strong over the years and it's nice to know the industry looks at the forums. In short, the game gets a B+ in my book. I'll explain why. Pros: The atmosphere, on the whole, has been preserved. By atmosphere I mean the look of the city, the haunting background noises, the first person aspect, and the 'treasure hunt' feel as you loot your way through each mission. Square Enix could have easily messed this portion of the game up, but they wisely preserved it. In short, it feels like a Thief game! They kept the scary aspects of the series. Although I am disappointed that there are no zombies, the supernatural enemies you run into are creepy in their own right. I was thrilled that they included a 'haunted' level that made the Thief series shine. There are truly some scary moments in the game. The ability to customize almost every stat-based feature of the game adds to the difficulty and overall fun of the game. I loved how they game keep track of the 3 play styles (Ghost, Opportunist, Predator), as these were once invisible community standards of how one could play Thief. Those who never played Thief will probably finish missions as a Predator, since it involves less patience and panders to the 'first person shooter' genre. Although this isn't an illegitimate style, the game really shines when one attempts to finish a mission as a Ghost. Combine 'ghosting' with very hard customized difficulties and Thief can become and EXTREMELY difficult game. It's a difficulty that pats old school gamers on the back, when we'd sit at the lunch table and brag about beating a game on the hardest difficulty level, or taking 'that' path as opposed to another. The fact that Thief has no multiplayer is a GOOD thing, just like Mirror's Edge. The level design, at least for the missions, is satisfactory. They are three to four ways into a building on average and at least 2-3 paths to the objective with plenty of areas to explore and loot. Cons: The game doesn't feel 'next gen'. Although a minor issue, I feel like the engine the game runs off of (Unreal engine) is out dated. Graphically, the game frequently has texture popping a few seconds after load times. This shouldn't happen on a next gen system especially given the fact that the game, in terms of texture, isn't mind-blowingly profound. The graphics are 'ok' even if the shadows and dark feel make up for it. The AI is, well, simple. Square Enix had an opportunity to make a detailed AI script, but failed to give us AI that does any better than the original Thief games. This criticism goes for the game industry as a whole. However, this doesn't mean you can run past enemies. The AI, especially on hard difficulties, do enough to make the game a challenge. They will search, chase you, light torches, call for aid, etc. However, it totally kills the mood when they just go back to their 'scripts' after catching someone burglarizing the manor they were supposed to guard. Getting caught should have drastic consequences for the mission, but Square Enix decided not to improve the AI. Why not make AI call for backup, get into formation, buddy up, and search and try to outsmart you? Another aspect that got me mad was the fact that, at least on Xbox One, YOU CANNOT ADJUST THE BRIGHTNESS THROUGH THE GAME. For someone who can't access the TV's menu without the original remote (that I don;t have), this was a huge problem. I had to play the game 'visually flawed' because I couldn't set the brightness low. The 'getting caught' music is TOO loud and overpowers the environmental sounds that are important to hear. Thankfully the music can be lowered in relation to the environmental sounds. Rope arrows are way too linear compared to the originally Thief games. I felt 'babied' when you realize rope arrows stick only to specific wooden beams that look identical to each other. The classic thief games made the rope arrows more flexible. The 'squeeze-between-the-boxes-to-get-to-the-next-section' areas were too frequent. Why did they have to put the same board in every one of those areas that you have to shift out of the way? They couldn't have generated 3 other types of obstacles? You soon realize these areas are designed to buy time in order for the next section to load. For a game that is on next gen, these average-looking textures should load within 2 seconds. I blame the outdated engine. To the game's credit, however, it is a lot less buggy than Thief 3 when enemies would practically fold backwards when killed and jiggle in the ground (lol). Other comments: The story was 'ok'. I'm ultimately happy that they included Erin since she was introduced at the end of Thief 3. I spent hours on the forums speculating what they would do with her character. I thought they would have made the game co-op, but that certainly leaves more room for them to butcher the game. The game definitely takes places after Thief 3, but in ways that are hard to put my finger on. They make plenty of references to the older games, but they don't, for example, explain the demise of the Hammerites. [Perhaps I just didn't find that out yet, since I focused on completing the main story only.) All in all, I give the game a 4 out of 5. I really hope they take these mostly minor criticisms to heart because this game certainly has potential to be improved upon. Thief 5, if they make it, will be a powerhouse IF THEY TAKE THEIR TIME with it. I heard that Square Enix ran into a few problems with their staff. At one point it wasn't clear that this game would ever come out. But I'm happy it did. I highly recommend getting this game and ghosting!

I pick locks and pockets!
I consider this release the first, official really good game of the X-box One. Its less linear than other titles such as Ryse (which is great!) and offers a great first person perspective that will remind a lot of gamers of Dishonored. The world is rich in a steampunkish/Victorian style architecture and is dark/grim enough to feel confident in your clandestine affairs. One thing I really enjoy is the vast amount of gear that you have at your disposal. From wire cutters to lock picks to wrenches, you have a colorful arsenal with which to sabotage your surroundings and make the job of a master thief just a wee bit easier. Your main weapon is basically Green Arrow's bow which allows you to shoot a wonderful variety of arrows some of which provide a non-lethal answer to a situation, should you wish to venture down such a path. The graphics are rich and detailed despite being in the dark for a large majority of time. I haven't finished the game yet, but thus far it has been a great gaming experience. The best one yet of this generation! So if you're in the mood to slink around a beautifully detailed city and grab some shiny things, or you're in need of something to pass the time waiting for Titanfall ;) then pick up Thief and start the looting!

Disappointing reboot
This game absolutely doesn't live up to the quality of the earlier Thief games. Had it been released soon after the last installment in the series, this might have been a solid game, but in 2014, selling for $60 on a next-gen console, it's pathetic. It's like they walked into a bar, found the dumbest, drunkest people in the room and told them to re-create Assassin's Creed, without the open world, in a steampunk-ish victorian-like city full of brain-dead AI. The story is atrocious, the voice acting is somehow even worse, and the gameplay doesn't come close to making up for it. Save your money and wait until the price drops to $20, then buy it for the sheer entertainment value of such hilariously stupid writing. Update: I decided to add to my review, in light of all of the 5 star reviews advising readers to ignore the 1 star reviews, with the general insinuation being that we hate this game because we're a bunch of knuckle-dragging Call of Duty players, insufficiently intelligent or sophisticated enough to appreciate a stealth game. In reality, when I pre-ordered this game, I understood that this wasn't going to be an action-packed shooter, and despite my tongue-in-cheek reference to Assassin's Creed in my original review, I didn't expect it to be that either, but what I did expect was a truly great stealth game, and the developers fed that expectation by naming it after a beloved classic franchise. While I'm not a huge fan of the stealth game genre above all others, I've played plenty of these games that were as slow-paced as this one, but still thoroughly engrossing and entertaining for hours on end. This game however, is not. The deficiencies that I mentioned in my earlier review, and countless others that I've encountered in the hours of gameplay since writing it(including terrible sound mixing and NPCs that are little more than manequins and potted plants, etc) wouldn't detract much from a game if one or two of these issues were to pop up. But once all of these problems pile up in the aggregate, the result is a game that I didn't find remotely immersive, compelling, or intellectually challenging. Basically, what I'm saying is that the slow pace of this type of game is only a problem in this particular case because the game offers nothing else to maintain interest hour after hour. So, if you're part of the subset of gamers that absolutely LOVES this genre and you're desparate to get your hands on a new stealth game to play, regardless of any glaring deficiencies, then you may thoroughly enjoy this one and not have any regrets about dropping $60 on it. For everyone else, buyer beware.

Nice change of pace!
I am playing on master difficulty with focus turned off and I am really enjoying the game. It makes you really have to use stealth and avoid head on confrontations with the guards. There are several different ways to approach any mission and I try to remain undetected and figure out how to lure or sneak behind the guards and do a takedown then hide their body before the others notice. There is a lot of hidden items and replay value of the game. I can imagine if you play it on easy it would be boring or think it is an action game, because it is more of a stategy game with a slower pace than a first person shooter. I love first person shooters also, but I think that this is a nice change of pace. It has great graphics and gameplay. I finished all of the side missions and am on Chapter 7 right now with 40 hours of gameplay so far so I am getting a lot out of the game, but I guess it is not for everyone.

Refreshing game! Ignore the 1 star reviews
Obviously the 1 star reviewers are HEAVILY critiquing the game way too much. This reboot is fun and something different since the original Thief series and Dishonored. The visuals and art direction is stunning. It not might be the most realistic game but not every game has to look realistic. The art direction of the game is beautiful. It really sets the mood and tone of the game. Some may argue that they wish there was a 3rd person view but you might as well play Splinter Cell or Metal Gear Solid. The first person view really makes you feel immersed, you really have to watch your back and corners. I'm only about an hr into the game and when I'm trying to ghost a level it can get really anxious and nerve racking when you're trying to pick lock something and watching the guard to your left/right about to turn around. The storyline so far is quiet interesting. The control layout will take a bit to get used to cause you would think certain buttons should be assigned to this button. But its not difficult to learn and adjust. I'm glad to see this game come back. I'm enjoying the game and it really is something different and refreshing to play. I recommend this especially if you liked Dishonored. For those criticizing the game because it lost its "originality" and so forth. Obviously it would be difficult to capture that initial emotion and style. Remaking/rebooting something won't grab the entire essence of the original. Why? Because nothing beats the classics. But with the reboot for the next gen and previous gen its something different from the typical shooters and 3rd person camera moving game plays. Overall I'm enjoying this game.

Good Graphics - Poor design with an almost interesting story line.
I was enjoying the game until - Chapter 3 came along and it became a nightmare when I wished to upgrade my toon's Focus. So, why did Square Enix decide to force the player to return to an NPC in order to continue to advance your character?! I don't know of any other game that's currently on the market that continues to torture it's players this way and in this game - it is a serious pain to move around the city because everything has been "locked-down" by the Baron and his Thief-Taker General. The maps are crude, inaccurate, and useless. The Storyline is truly hurt by the lack luster control design, along with the a lot of design challenges. I think that the programming and design team should stop whatever they're doing - purchase Assassin's Creed or a number of other games and learn how to design fluid interfaces, leveling systems that enhance game play, and environments that flow both logically and again enhance game play. The game is supposed to be fun folks! Wished I could get my money back - oh, well... Guess, I'll force myself to play this until Titan or any of the other cool games are released.
