Graco 17A466 TrueCoat 360 DS Paint Sprayer. Better than I expected.
Graco 17A466 TrueCoat 360 DS Paint Sprayer, It has been years since I've owned a paint sprayer. The wife wanted to paint the free-standing garage. Heaven knows why, but that was to be her summer project. Of course, it hadn't been painted in the last 25 years, so maybe that is why. She asked if we could look into getting a paint sprayer. I remined her of the various types and the need for paint thinning for the majority of them. The main turnoff on the others was the requirement to thin the paint to the needed viscosity, can't spray sideways or upside down. She said if she has to deal with thinning, she didn't want it. Off I go searching all of the products. I ran across this one. Look no more, no thinning required, can paint upside down, etc. The advertisements are correct. This bad-boy really works great. Now keep in mind she has never use a paint sprayer in her life. I had her watch the YouTube quick start and use guide video. She started with 4" spray nozzle on low speed. Took a few strokes to get the hang of it and within 30 minutes she was spraying on high. Best part is we just pored the paint directly out of the 5 gallon bucket into the sprayer cup, attached the cup, did a quick prime and off she went. Absolutely no thinning just like advertised. We were spraying fairly think outdoor, water base, with primmer included with the paint type. And yes, it sprays upside-down, sideways, any direction you want. We even left the sprayer site over night to continue the project without cleaning or emptying the paint cup. Instructions say you can do that for an overnight, but any longer requires complete cleaning and start again fresh. The unit is fairly light, but a little heavier after filling the paint cup with 32oz of paint. Still, she was able to hold it with one hand most of the time. Spray quality is excellent. No blobs, drips, just a nice spray. Nozzle is easily switchable from a horizontal to vertical spray with just a simple twist. The entire time she sprayed the garage, it never, and I mean never clogged. After she finished her project with the garage, I of course, got to do the cleanup. Actually, cleanup was fairly simple. Just read the instructions, or watch the video, to get a good understanding how to perform the cleanup and it not really that bad of a chore. Basically, wash all the paint off the external parts, run water through the sprayer until clear, and pretty much does it. She is very satisfied with this product as well as myself. It performed way beyond my expectations. Though a little pricey for some, believe me it is well worth the cost. I would highly recommend it. BTW, she is 63 years old and did this all by herself. Ok, I helped hold the paint cup when she was pouring out of the 5 gallon bucket.

Great budget sprayer
This Grace sprayer is excellent! Super easy to use and to clean. Put paint in the plastic reservoir, attach to gun, squeeze the air out of it, close the cap, prime the pump for about ten seconds and you’re good to go! To clean it just as simple, unscrew the reservoir, release paint but switching it on to prime pump because a lot of paint it still in there and then use water to fully clean the pump. I bought this because we bought new interior doors that needed painting white. To paint all five doors took me maybe 15 minutes. Super quick and easy and way better than rolling and using a paint brush. A couple things to note: -Do your self a favor and fill the reservoir all the way up from the get go. The gun works only if there’s no air at all in the reservoirs and if you only fill them half way it’s hard to squeeze all of the air. -It comes with two spray nozzles, a 4 inch and a 12 inch so even if you are painting small objects you are set. -There are two modes, high and low. In the instructions it says go with low if you want a more controlled spray. When I sprayed my doors I used low and it was a flawless finish. Just take your time and make sure the gun is always aimed directly at what you’re spraying. -the paint that I used for the doors is a auto leveler so it’s super thin. I ended up going through probably 2/3 of a gallon spraying one coat on the front and backs. I think with a normal viscosity paint it wouldn’t take that much, but just in case. -remember with sprayers there will be overspray and you should use drop cloths wherever you don’t want paint. I made a makeshift paint booth in my basement so I wouldn’t have to worry about bugs. I would highly recommend this sprayer. Just read the instructions and thoroughly clean it when you’re done and it will be a great investment.

Good for small projects, fantastic customer service!
We bought this paint sprayer without a lot of research and used it on a couple projects that were honestly bigger than what it was meant for. It did great and completed the projects w/ no issues. Then we took it to another house and it didn't work properly - it only sputtered out paint, not the normal fine mist of paint. Did I not clean it out well enough last time I used it? Is the paint too thick this time? Idk but bummer it's not working. So I eventually stop trying to make it work and rinse it out, frustrated about it, and probably don't clean it as well as I should have. Well, next time we need to use it, it won't push any paint thru at all. Not a drop. I troubleshoot & nothing. I even try to rinse it w/ water in the cup & it won't even send water thru. It's totally plugged or the pump has stopped working. So I call customer service on a Sat evening thinking there's no way anyone will answer. Surprise! They're open to take calls every day 8am-8pm! How great is that? So I talk to a live & knowledgeable person who gives me some tips to try that aren't in the normal troubleshooting in the manual. I try them, it still doesn't work. So I call back the next day and explain, thinking I'll just have to eat it & get a new sprayer but it's been less than a year since I bought mine on Amazon and it's still under warranty ... they can send me a new one!! Within a week, a brand new sprayer arrives! Thank you, Graco customer support! 5-stars for that for sure. 2 stars for easiness to clean since it's kind of a hassle and if you don't clean it thoroughly enough, it could clog the machine. You have to clean it out carefully & very thoroughly after each & every use! 4 stars for ease of use because it really does save a lot of time once you're set up to spray and spraying is really intuitive. With a can of paint that's been previously opened, however, pouring paint thru a strainer into the cup is kind of a pain that takes time and if not done & there are lumps in paint, it could clog the sprayer. Bigger sprayers are able to pull straight from a 1-gal or 5-gal can/bucket, which I'd prefer but they're more expensive and everkill for smaller projects. So 5 stars for value because this little sprayer really does work well for smaller projects. If you have to reload the cup a few times w/ paint, the project may be a bit big for this hand-held and that could be working it (the pump inside, specifically) more than it was designed for. Still, a great sprayer.

Exposed Ceiling -- Better than expected!
I have never owned a paint sprayer before, so I didn't know what to expect. I set out to paint my basement exposed ceiling and brush/roller sounded like a terrible idea. If you're looking to spray an exposed ceiling like pictured, this is a great tool. I debated this sprayer or a more robust, more commercial type Graco sprayer. Glad I went with this, since I won't be using a sprayer regularly. Pros: - Easy to setup - Easy to clean (I thought this would be horrible based on general knowledge) - Great spray, thickness, and coverage - Even and great finish (I'm a perfectionist btw) - Worked in multiple angles including upside down - Only clogged 1 or 2 times through 9 gallons Cons: - Wired. Obviously this is a personal choice that comes with a cost. This wasn't the end of the world, but I used a 75' extension cord, and once in a while I'd step on the cord, it would unplug. Again, I knew what I was getting into. - Paint dust. Again, this is to be expected, but I'm glad I covered EVERYTHING. All of the plastic and paper I laid was covered. Be sure to not skip this step.

Hard to use for small projects - paint flow rate way to high - causes runs
I purchased this to paint some 1950s metal outdoor outdoor chairs that we restored as a home DIY project. I wanted to mix my own color so I needed a small spray gun. I found that the paint came out way too fast - even with the smaller tip. I could never find a way to make it work. I tried moving the gun away from the surface - but just lost control of the spray pattern when I did that. I had to move real fast and I got lots of paint runs - very frustrating. I'm not a professional painter - so I don't have much spray painting experience - but I did part of my project using standard spray cans that sprayed at a much slower rate and I got great results with no runs. I was hoping/expecting this sprayer to be like a spray can - but it puts-out the paint at a much faster rate. I'm now having to go back and sand-out lots of runs. Very frustrating. I researched getting a smaller tip that sprays the paint slower but it looks like the only 2 tips that work are the ones that come with the '360 - and the smaller one is putting-out the paint way to fast for my skill level. I have the 2-speed version. Maybe the variable speed one would work better - I'll never know. It looks like the battery powered version might support more tips. That may help with putting-out the paint slower but I'm going a different direction now. Do your homework. I think this would work if you wanted to paint a big wall - but if you were doing that I think getting a bigger machine that could pull from a bucket of paint would make more sense. I guess this sprayer would work well on a small wall. I am now looking at air-sprayers that are more suited to slower spray rates and finer finishes. After I sand-out all the runs, I'll need something that sprays slower. If you are looking at spraying things at a slow rate that you can easily control (like the rate of a spray can) then you may want to look elsewhere - or be ready to deal with lots of paint runs. I hope you find this helpful to avoid the frustration that I'm experiencing.

Graco delivered on a quality product!
I am a professional painter and have several commercial Graco sprayers. I have tried other similar sprayers, Wagner etc and they all had the same problem, couldn't handle the viscosity of laytex paint. They end-up spitting the paint. I Had a small interior job with a bunch of windows so I decided to try the Graco Tru-Coat DS. I expected if they put their name on it, it must be up to the job. It was! I am very pleased with all aspects of this gun. Properly atomized the paint on both high and low settings. Since I am used to spraying I prefer the high setting. I did notice the gun has a slight pulse which is to be expected given the technology. It did not affect the quality of the finish though. For a first time DIY painter all I can say is practice, practice, practice. Most common mistake is going too slow which leads to runs. This gun puts out at least 10x the volume of paint as an aerosol can so you have to move quickly. If it takes you more than 15 seconds to paint an average window casing you're going too slow. I painted 7 large windows and a door in 15min including a stop to refill once. This is best for smaller jobs, cabinets, furniture, interior trim, windows, doors decks, fences, sheds etc. I would never use it for an entire house exterior. You'd have to refill way too often and probably wear out the gun. For that you are better off renting a commercial model. It will make a fun easy job out of a large nightmare. As far as cleaning goes, it's a snap but I'm used to cleaning a large sprayer which can take 30min or so. Overall, great product. Don't know how long it will last but I will probably replace it with the $700 rebuildable model when it dies.

Quit spraying after two uses
I bought this sprayer after reviewing a ton of others and I’m happy I purchased this one. I wanted one that would give me a professional-like finish with the ease of not having to thin the paint. This works like a charm! I’d recommend it for small projects because I’d imagine you’d have to refill a lot for bigger projects. I’m using it to paint my kitchen cabinets and the finish is smooth. Much, much faster than using a roller! This sprayer is also lightweight. I was afraid I’d be fatigued by having the paint cup connected to the gun, but it wasn’t a problem. I used the 4 inch nozzle which gives off a small, controlled spray. All I needed was drop cloths to protect my garage floor. Not messy at all. ***** UPDATE - after using this sprayer twice it will no longer spray anything. I’ve only used half a gallon of paint with this sprayer and I thoroughly cleaned and flushed it after each use. It runs but won’t spray. It won’t even spray water. I spent hours troubleshooting with no resolution and will be returning it. ***** So Amazon sent me a replacement (you can’t beat Amazon customer service). This one seemed to operate sufficiently. This does not give a perfectly smooth finish like some of the sponsored bloggers claim, but it’s better than hand rolling or brushing. I’ll use it again for my next project.

Great unit, easy to use, perfect results
I purchased this sprayer for one particular job. I needed to paint some shingles on two gable ends on my house. I used it to spray a heavy oil base primer, 3 gallons and a heavy latex color coat, 4 gallons. It performed flawlessly. I have used commercial duty sprayers over the years and this handheld unit does almost as good as the larger units. It is very easy to use. It had no leaks, the tip didn’t drip and put down the paint perfectly. Cleaning the oil base primer up was a little time consuming but then I like my tools to look like new. Cleaning latex was a breeze. I don’t know how it would do with fine finishing but I did not purchase it for that. I like the flexible cup liners. Great idea. Never had a clog. Did not need to thin the paint. Overall I am pleased with this spray gun. I would not hesitate to recommend this unit.
