The highlight of this special umbrella is its telescope fiber glass shaft which is extendable up to 3 feet in length and can be fixed at any height by a small twisting movement. The umbrella can be easily fastened to any standard backpack with hip belt and directed against the direction where the wind and the rain come from. Both hands remain completely free making it ideal for hikers who do not want to go without trekking poles. It is also a perfect for photographers, for working the GPS, or any other time you need both hands free. The Teflon coated silver finish provides 50+ UV protection. It is also great as a protection against rain or sun for small kids riding on their parents´ backs in a carrying seat. The Swing Handsfree umbrella comes with two turntable clips with Velcro strips for attaching to the shoulder straps and belt of the backpack. The umbrella can be positioned to the right or the left according to the direction of the wind and the rain. The elastic carrying loop at the umbrella handle serves as flexible fastening to the hip belt. Alternatively, the umbrella can be also attached on the carrier-belt-system produced by EuroSCHIRM when walking without a pack (sold separately). Review: great product/excellent customer support - First off, one of the clips that hold the umbrella to the backpack broke the first time I used it. desertcart and One Bay Distribution were amazing! I told desertcart about it, they acted as intermediary, and about a week later, a new set of clips arrived! (And I live in Alaska, so that speaks for itself.) Secondly, the actual umbrella is very well-made and has a smooth opening and closing action, but is quite long when closed and secured. (I bought it to go on the Camino de Santiago and am really hoping it will go through security because it doesn't fold up smaller and I had planned to take a suitcase that won't be big enough to fit the umbrella, so it can't be checked through.) A couple of tricks I have learned: the bottom part of the umbrella that connects to the waist-strap of the backpack has a lot of control on the angle of the umbrella. I can leave the umbrella in the upper clip and move the lower part of the umbrella to change angles depending on the sun. (At first, I was clipping and unclipping every time I needed to change the angle of the umbrella.) I'm even learning how to combat a low-to-the-horizon sun. It is a bit tricky and sometimes the sun here is too low for the umbrella to keep the rays completely off my face. If I shorten the length of the stick and have the umbrella as straight up as possible, it can usually combat a lower sun. This umbrella has made it possible for me to use walking sticks and, although the color makes me feel like I'm a walking inverted satellite dish (lol!), the functionality is superb! The only improvement is that I wish they would be able to engineer the umbrella to have the same stability, but also be able to fold up smaller for travel... Still, when all is said and done, this was a good purchase for me! Buen Camino! Review: Umbrellas were delivered under separate cover and both arrived in excellent condition They feel to be of excellent construction and ... - We have not yet had a chance to try out the pair of umbrellas we purchased for an upcoming major backpacking trip to the desert southwest part of the U.S. However, right out of the box, my wife and I were impressed, being we purchased both umbrellas, sight unseen, online. Umbrellas were delivered under separate cover and both arrived in excellent condition They feel to be of excellent construction and materials when visually examining and holding in your hands. It took both of us a while to figure out how to attach to our packs in a manner that we each liked. I liked mine attached to the hip belt, while my wife likes it attached directly to her backpack. With a little trial and error, we arrived at a point that satisfied each of our likings Chances are we will recommend this umbrella for backpacking, section hiking or just a day hike once we have returned off the trail having used them under actual conditions.

excellent product
Surprisingly good on the trail. Thought it might be too big and get in the way of trees, shrubs, etc, but not a problem. Construction & materials are great...kept me dry, hiking all day in the rain. Only drawback is connection point at the bottom and forward angle, but tough to engineer around the shape of people :-)

Hands free
This is a great product not only for hiking but when paired with the harness it is good for fishing and working in the garden. Every road side flag worker I see standing in the hot sun now should have one !

2 times malfuntioned
I don't recommed buying this product. The first time the extension shaft malfuntioned and would not keep the umbrella in place. I sent it back and was sent a new one, just like the old one. And again, the extension shaft did the same thing and would not keep the umbrella from collapsing. The sun protection is excellent, but the umbrella just won't stay UP.

Disappointing!
I worried about buying this because of the “twist” locking mechanism to extend the handle. That is almost a certain failure point and, sadly, I was right. The umbrella worked perfectly well for the first two days of my Camino. We had a lot of rain and it only could not handle the near gale force wind on the mountain top. No surprise there and perfectly acceptable. On the third day, we only had light showers but once when I was taking it down, no number of twists allowed me to retract the handle. I hung the umbrella upside down from my chest strap, took two steps and the top section fell from the handle. I now have a very expensive hand held umbrella. Other than that, it’s good.

Very Fragile
I first purchased this umbrella 5 years ago. It was great! Due to an unfortunate wind gust, I had to replace it. The later version is horrible. Two of the stays have broken at the hinge for no apparent reason. I was walking in the hot desert sun, and felt one something hit my ear...One of the stays broke. Later that same day, another broke. This, while holding it in my hand away from anything. VERY disappointed with this umbrella. They are great when they last, but I got a LEMON!

Mit den Worten einer französischen Nonne: "You are a blessed umbrella girl!"
