Firm, flexible, breathable
First, I'm using these in a suburban environment. I cannot comment on using them for true hiking, but my kids and I do a lot of urban exploring which involves both paved and natural ground, dry and wet with algae surfaces. The fit of these is nice, with a wide rounded toe box. They aren't super padded and cushy (which I like), but they have a firm supportive sole that provides some give on hard surfaces. If you like a really cushy shoe, you probably won't care for these. I would describe the experience of walking on pavement as similar to walking on a lawn barefoot. The thing that is my favorite, though, is the tread pattern. They have great grip, are nonmarking, and don't squeak. But the treads are broken up in a way that allows my foot to flex and bend naturally without the shoe getting in the way. A bonus I didn't really expect is that they breathe nicely and even in 100* temps, my feet aren't uncomfortably sweaty or hot. TLDR; These shoes meet all of my needs for urban exploring adventures, while keeping my feet and ankles happy. Edit: I'm going through my reviews and I honestly still love these sneakers. Repeat everything I said before but after regular use for years.

Great, Just Great! Merrill Womens Siren Edge Hiker shoes were better than I had hoped
I have flat feet and bunions. We planned a vacation to several National Parks where we wanted to hike. My feet often hurt from shoes that have too small of a toe box, too much arch support or not enough. I read the reviews for these shoes and ordered the Merrill Women’s Siren Edge Hiker. These shoes gave my feet great support, never slipped on rocks and never hurt. The toe box was wide enough to not hurt my bunions. The shoes were not heavy or bulky. We hiked for many miles and these shoes never caused me pain. I wore them even when not hiking. Even when roots and rocks were on the trail, these shoes supported my feet. They didn’t slip or roll. I am very impressed with the shoes and recommend them for hiking or if you are on your feet for long periods of time. Great support, comfortable and stylish. Great shoes.

Great product (and the chemical smell does go away)
Right out of the box, these shoes had a very strong, chemical odor. I have owned quite a few Merrells, but none of them smelled so strong. This could not be attributed to the waterproofing treatment, because these shoe are definitely not waterproof. Even a droplet of water will soak right through. I am fine with that, as I didn't expect them to be waterproof or water resistant. After about 20 minutes of wearing them, I experienced a slight allergic reaction, and decided to let them vent out before wearing them again. I let the shoes sit in a well ventilated location for about 3 weeks. As time went by, the smell dissipated enough for me to be able to wear them. At this point, the smell is completely gone. As for the size, this pair is a perfect fit. The shoes are quite comfortable, although not as comfortable as some of my other Merrells. They hug the foot very well and offer a reasonable support. The colors are exactly as shown in the image. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase.

Good Value, Sturdy, Not Extremely Comfortable
I took a chance ordering these online last minute two days before I hiked the Skyline Trail at Mt Rainier. I wore them to the airport to break them in and found to be uncomfortable walking around on regular ground; so much so that I took them off during my flight and put on my regular running shoes. The soles are really stiff and don't have much cushion or bounce at all. Tried adding Dr. Scholls inserts, but then my feet felt like they were up a little too high and the ankle support wasn't as good. Comtemplated returning but decided to try them out on my hike and I'm soooo glad I did. Ordered a half size up and wore two pairs of socks for my hike. There was still a little room in the shoes with the double socks -- without double socks they felt a little too loose, so I would say they run true to size. I think the double socks helped make them more comfortable, so I would probably suggest going up a half size so you have room for two pairs of thinner socks or one pair of nice thick socks. They were very comfortable up until the last mile or so of the 5.5 mile trail. There were tons of loose jagged rocks all over the trail and thanks to these shoes I didn't feel the impact of that at all. Good ankle support and was not slippery even walking over rocks in a creek with running water. Was a little slippery walking over a downhill patch of icy snow, but I'm not sure what kind of shoe wouldn't have been. (Maybe a hiking boot?) Also, my feet stayed dry even after stepping in a few inches of water and snow. Overall, these were a good purchase for the price and I'm glad I chose these as my first pair of hiking shoes. I imagine you can get more comfort with a higher price tag, but I'm hoping these will become more comfortable as I break them in. Bonus is that for hiking shoes they are pretty cute and from a glance look like regular sneakers.

I have a lot of hope, since they were good right out of the box.
I wear a 7.5W, and finding good shoes is an adventure. I was torn between these and a couple other Merrell and Keen models, but I finally chose this one on the ratio of good reviews to bad. I fully expected to have to go to a size 9 on these, but the width worked well, and I don't feel any strange rubbings internally, as noted by some other reviewers. These are very firm, out of the box, and in my (minimal) breaking in period, I can tell that they will protect my feet during light and medium hiking. I have gotten my feet wet a bit, and haven't noticed any soak through, but I wouldn't ford a stream in these unless I was being chased. I hope, being Merrells, these will perform reasonably well under normal wear and tear, but I'll update if not. These are very low on my ankle (good for me) but you can't quite tell that from the picture. If you need ankle support, these are not the shoes for you. I paired these with Lorpan Ultralite socks and they fit well. I am excited that they don't dig into my heels like my Keens or Altras do during break in.

Well Made & Comfy Too!
Merrell products do not lack in quality or comfort. I've had a different pair for years whuch have been the best all-around walking, hiking, every-day shoe. Now that I need to replace my current pair, I've tried 2 different Merrell models which both ran about a 1/2 size too big - Tokota 2 Hiker & Moab 2 Vented Hiker. Even my hard plastic orthidics did not compensate for it. The Women's Siren Edge Hiker arrived today, and feel perfect (even with my ortodics inserted underneath the removable sole inserts) as I walk around the house to test them out. The toe box is comfy because of the soft, flexable material; heel fits good; and ankle cut-outs are perfect for me - no rubbing. These shoes will be doing double duty as sneakers & hikers. The color is true to what's puctured on Amazon. It's listed as bright red, but the main fabric is more of an orangey-pinky-red in my opinion. I do like the bright colors. Hope the pictures help. I would highly recommend this shoe. No, I was not paid to do a review - I'm an ordinary customer.

The most comfortable hiking shoes I have ever worn!
I've never been a fan of hiking boots or shoes but I needed something besides my running sneakers for a recent trip to Peru and Machu Picchu. I knew I wanted Merrells but was torn on which style to choose. After reading all the reviews for a few styles I settled on these. So glad I did, these turned out to be perfect! For reference I usually wear a 7.5 - 8 and went with the 8 in these. They were comfy out of the box and required very little, if any, breaking in. I hate bulky socks and wore these with thin athletic socks (like I would wear with running shoes). I had only worn them around the house for a few hours before making the trek up Machu Picchu! I also wore them for 24 hours straight during our travel home to the US from Peru - that included 3 flights/11 hours total time on planes plus a 3-hour train ride. Don't get me wrong, I was happy to get them off when the time came but they never hurt me in any way. I have read some reviews that question the durability of these shoes over time. To be honest, these are the most comfortable hiking shoes I have ever tried on/worn and will gladly repurchase these over and over as needed.

Comfortable, but...
Original review: I have had many pairs of Merrell Siren Sport shoes, which are built on the same sole but have thicker material for the uppers because they are a little bit more of a hiking shoe. I really have have only chosen to wear them for years because they are the brand and style of shoe that fits my feet perfectly. The price on the Siren Edge was great, so since the sole was the same, I gave them a shot. WOW...the uppers on these are fantastic. So comfortable and pliable. Really bends with my foot. I love these. UPDATE: I have updated my rating to 3 stars instead of 5. I have been wearing these for about 1 week, almost daily. Within the first week it became apparent that the top back of the shoe was going to cave in pretty quickly. And I have always loosened the laces to put them on. But now, three weeks in, the slumping back is something I feel always, even though I take the time to straighten it out. In addition, one of the shoes puts pressure RIGHT on the end of my big toe nail. After a couple of hours, that is enough to begin to be more than just irritating. I wish I had just gone ahead and purchased the hiking version with the sturdier exterior.

Han sido comodísmas desde el primer día y después de tres usos escasos han soportado varios días de senderismo duro y no he tenido ningún problemas de rozaduras, mis pies protegidos. Son muy bonitas y no es un modelo que se vea a menudo, recomiendo
