Amazing sound quality
I never really thought I'd be looking for a "true wireless" set of earbuds until I first heard about these late last year before they were released. They've been on my radar since. They don't look absolutely ridiculous like the Apple Airpods (although I still would feel obnoxious walking around with them), and they promised high-end sound quality.- I couldn't sleep a few nights ago and caved, I went ahead and ordered these. In my sleepless thought-loops, I reasoned that these would be perfect for using in the office. I probably spent maybe 8 hours a week already in office with my trusty pair of Shure SRH 440 cans that I got in 2009 for $95. These would have the advantage over those as being way more comfortable, and way more subtle, likely with better sound... But what really sold me on this style of headphone is the external sound pass-through option. I loved the idea of being able to toggle outside sound as needed through just a simple tap-tap. And it sounds very natural, like you're not even wearing earbuds. For user context, I've spent ~$100 here and there on earbuds like the 1MORE Triple Driver (which I've sadly lost) that have come and faded from my regular use, those and the Shure cans mentioned above have served as my benchmark for what good headphone sound is. I took an impulsive leap ordering this $300 pair, but holy crap am I glad I did. The sound quality blows away what my over-ear Shure headphones can do, the difference is absolutely noticeable. I'm constantly impressed by how great everything sounds on these, and like people say, am noticing parts of my favorite songs that I've never noticed as much before. I've been so inspired by it that I dug into my Spotify settings, discovered the "Very High" setting, and deleted a dozen apps from my phone to make room for redownloading my whole library. When wondering how a bluetooth headset could sound this good, I did some research on the AptX standard and got learnt. I checked to make sure my Pixel XL supported the standard, and heck yeah, it's got AptX HD! These Sennheisers only have AptX though. While that seems to be more than enough, why shouldn't this top-end product utilize the top-end standard? These are very comfortable to wear and very sturdy. I'm using the small eartip set, and I'm not worried at all about these falling out of my ears, despite their mild bulkiness. It sort of seems like it's shaped like a giant earplug -- I wouldn't ever think I looked "cool" walking about with these, same as any other headphones. With the sound passthrough though, I could probably just throw a beanie over them and no one may be the wiser! The case is more compact and convenient. The soft touch and look is nice, and it feels sturdy, all except for the hinge... It's not loose or anything, but I'm skeptical about it's long-term durability. There is just a touch of side-to-side wiggle, and a little give if I try to open it too wide. Feels like I could potentially snap this backwards easily. Hopefully a replacement case isn't too expensive if I ever have a stupid moment or if it wears out in the very-long-term (I hope to use these for a GOOD LONG WHILE, considering the cost -- will update if necessary). I like the build otherwise, though -- very nice how the buds snap magnetically in their cubbies. There is one LED and a button that you can use to check the status of the charging case's battery, straightfoward once you learn it once. The battery life of the buds has been perfectly adequate for my use, and the fact that these have nowhere to go but back in their chargey-case means they're always ready for me. The right earbud draining faster than left is sort of weird but not a big deal and kind of makes sense considering in a way, these are basically two independent devices. when you have two completely independent devices. The USB-C charge port is on this case is another feature that absolutely sold me. My pixel charges with USB-C, as does my Galaxy Book 12 laptop, and I love having one cable that I can use alternately for my daily devices. These buds are an other added to that list. I've seen some complaints about the touch controls, but personally I like them, at least I like the concept, especially. The combination of taps needed is easy to memorize as early as day 1, there's nothing really complicated about it. Timing the double-tap to activate pass-through sound is going to take me some practice though, I sometimes do it wrong and activate voice assistant instead (with 1 touch being registered). This is usually because I tapped too slow and deliberately. Two quick, solid-contact touches is the way to go and I'm sure I will master this with more practice. All this would be a non-issue if I could switch the 1-touch/2-touch functions on the right earbud via the app. This seems like it should be possible with a software update, so fingers crossed! I really love these earbuds and I'm so glad I pulled the trigger on them. It's been a long time since a new gadget has been so satisfying, or made me feel like I've really ascended to the next era in an area of technology. For sure I'm listening to my tunes even more than before, but more importantly, I've been kind of pumped to actually go into the office where it makes sense for me to use these (vs my whole-home Chromecast Audio speaker setup). Great motivator to get into work! Despite all that, a negative I should mention.. This buds can't connect to multiple devices simultaneously. I'm used to using a Plantronics Voyager 5200 bluetooth earpiece for my work calls, which coincidentally just happened to die a few days ago after just 15 months of service. That earpiece was able to connect to both my phone and laptop simultaneously, which was pretty handy and I took to take for granted. With these buds, I have to disconnect from one device before I can connect to the other. Not too big of a deal though, since I only ever used my buds in the office to listen to Spotify. Now I just stream from my phone instead of my laptop, and I can still control playback from my laptop client thanks to the way the Spotify client works, so it feels almost no different. I had a 15 minute work call from an upset customer come in while I was wearing the earbuds, by the way... At the beginning of the call I asked if he could hear me OK, he said it was fine, so there's that. Another small negative, the touch controls seem to function still when the buds are removed from the ear, so it's easy to trigger voice assistant or play/pause by accident when you're handling the buds. You quickly learn to hold them from the edges so as to not trigger the touch-controls, which I got used to quickly. But if the buds can detect when they're placed in the ear, wouldn't it be nice if they could detect when they are removed too (and disable touch controls)? Overall, I'm incredibly pleased with these. I was on the fence for a while, reading loads of reviews and experiences. I wanted to be as thorough as I could with my thoughts on this to hopefully help anyone else that over-thinks things like I do.

Overall the best sound I have had from wireless earphones, but...
Update: Batteries have failed in less than one year. Despite what I write below about good sound quality, it is not a good purchase. Batteries should really last much longer than this. I bought a replacement battery and successfully installed it and it died within 6 months. It is likely the unit itself rather than the battery that is the problem. I decided to trashcan them to avoid the disappointment over not being able to use them. I am not saying these are the best wireless earbuds. I am just saying I think they are one of the best sounding. I live in a place where loudspeakers don't work out well. So I have a lot of headphones/earphones. I am lucky in that I have had a chance to sample lots of wireless sets. I am comparing these Sennheisers to: Jabra 65T, Jabra 75T, Airpods Pros, Bose QC 35 and Sony 1000xm3. The Sennheisers excel in one thing: sound quality. I have listened to these Sennheisers for 2 weeks straight and done a fair amount of comparing. I prefer them above the others for sound quality. The sound is clear and crisp and bass is very clean and not muddy. They are especially good for Jazz. The others each have their strong points and if I needed to pick only one of them to use long term, I would have to consider battery life, sound cancellation and phone call quality. The battery life is not stellar, but they last for at least 3 hours of continuous listening. The Jabras and AirPods last much longer. There is no noise cancellation except of having something plug your ear, and I think they all have a hard time at beating the Sony which is so intense at noise reduction that they are eerie. I haven't even tried them for phone calls. But for sound quality alone these are my favorite. Add in the holiday price of $99 and these are really worth it. Now I have only had them 2 weeks, so I will report back if they are not durable. Update: they still sound great. However they self discharge. So if they are not used for a few days they will discharge to zero on their own. If you use the right after being charged they last over 4 hours at medium volume. Seems that this should be a simple fix but lots of others complain as well. Minus one star. PS someone put advice on this forum that seems to help the battery issue. The buds seem to stay on in the case even if not connected to a source and they run down on their own. if you hold down the battery check button on the back until the light stops blinking, it seems to greatly lower the power drain. Update: I have had these buds for 8 months and have used them extensively. The pointer I wrote above about shutting off the unit by holding the power button down does not seem to matter anymore. Any time you do not use them for a few days or more, it will be dead on its own. This is really not acceptable programming or design or whatever the flaw is. They need to fix it or remove from the market. Even at 1/3 of its original price it is not worth it, even to a hard core headphone geek like myself. They do still sound good.

Battery issue explained and comparison with MTW 2 and Sony's
Here goes. I am not a professional reviewer. I am a musician. I have tried several true wireless headphones, read everything on the internet regarding the battery drain issue, and have watched pretty much all the reviews. Just trying to consolidate info. These headphones are still extremely relevant especially at a lowered price. The quick summary of the battery issue is that the headphones stay in a standby mode which drains far too much energy from the case while not being used. People that don't use the headphones report them being dead in a few days without use. These headphones work best for people that use them regularly, and as in my case, for exercise. Here are in my opinion the viable options for use. 1. Use them regularly and you probably won't notice. The reason I only do this on occasion is that I do not want the headphone battery continuously cycling and eventually draining the capacity over time. For the price; however, this is not unreasonable. 2. Once the headphones are charged, you can hold down the case button for 5 or 10 seconds until it turns off. The case will no longer charge the headphones until the charger is connected to the case and a power source. Basically just a physical case to carry the buds until hooked up to a charger. If you choose this option, you must put the buds in the case, and subsequently go into the app and manually turn off the earphones once in the case. 3. Charge the buds in the case, and then simply use them without the case until they need to be charged. You must set the buds down in a place where they won't be accidentally touched (the touch controls are sensitive and you can easily turn them back on by accident) and manually turn them off with the app. I actually do this the most since my gym is in my apartment. Bonus info: There are mixed reports on whether having the usb (or an alternative tiny magnetic usb dongle) connected to the case slows (or in some cases reportedly fixes) the battery drain issue. I have not experimented with this. Quick down and dirty comparison. I care about music quality by far the most. For wireless, I have used both generations of MTW, the current WF/WH series sony's, the Sony SP700N, Jabra 65T, Jaybird X series, and the airpod pros. Sennheiser gen 1 is marginally better than 2 as most people report, with the difference being a smoother more engaging sound. I agree with the reports that gen 2 could be more accurate, but sounds slightly more harsh. Sennheiser officially responded to me that differences are potentially attributable to decreased casing size of gen 2 (reviews think the sound signature could be simply different and potentially altered with firmware). Both sennheisers blow everything else out of the water in my opinion. Much more engaging and fun. The current sony in ears are way overrated in my opinion, and I think the SP700N sound significantly better (the newer ones sound mechanical and boring to me, with less bass and low max volume). The airpods sound pretty decent, neurtral, safe and boring. Less of a seal is not an option for me and thats what you get with the airpods. While obviously not technically accurate, they sound mono compared to sennheisers stereo. Jabra 65T sounded tinny and just not good, haven't tried the 75 series. On a random note, call quality on the Gen 2 sennheisers was garbage, but firmware updated after I returned them Call quality is a bit hit or miss on Gen 1 I wouldn't get sennheisers if primary purpose is calls (maybe get some old airpods to compliment) Bottom line: If you primarily want headphones for working out, Gen 1 MTW are the BEST. Downsides include lower battery capacity (3-4 hours in my experimenting), annoying touch controls (the gen 2 are better in picking up when you actually want to press them), and obviously the battery drain issue. The lowered price helps. If you want all around headphones and you're not quiiiiiite as picky, go with the Gen 2 sennheisers. If you're not really that picky and its more for podcasts etc etc go with airpods if you have an iphone and if not maybe airpods or try the jabra or sony series. Last comments. Many people ask about max volume. The airpods definitely have a higher max volume than any I have tried. Sennheisers are slightly louder than SP700N and I think the newer sony's although I returned them a while back. There is an app called SpotEQ which allows you to turn up the gain and increase spotify volume. It works pretty well but if you increase anything else on the equalizer in addition to the gain, it can cause distortion. It has a distortion indicator, but not sure how accurate it is. I think the Gen 1 sennheisers sound better than the Sony overheads WH-1000XM3, which I bought for my mom. You have to be motivated to get the best sound, but at least there is a price discount!

The best in 2020 — especially if you’re an audiophile
Summary: This is the best on the market. If you have deep pockets, you will not be disappointed. Buy these. You won’t look back. I tested Apple AirPods vs Samsung Buds+ (2020) vs Sennheiser Momentum. The Samsung Buds+ have received a ton of buzz but the sound comes up flat, dry and bass is underwhelming. The app is tough to find online, especially in the Apple App Store. The app offers preset eq levels, but in order to really hear a difference in the bass you need to place it on the “clear” setting and then to the bass options. Even then, sounds thin. They also hurt my ears after 30 minutes of use and their waterproof rating is weak. I was surprised, as I thought the Apple AirPods would be the ones that received the lowest review of the three, but the Samsung Buds+ actually sound slightly weaker than the Apple AirPods. I plan on returning the Samsung Buds+ now that I have a pair of the Sennheiser Momentum earbuds. The Apple AirPods are positioned to sound crisp and clear, especially on phone calls. They certainly meet the expectations in this area, but the bass is weak and airy. Good on the treble and at higher frequencies. If you aren’t all about rich, depth sounds then save the difference in price between these Sennheiser earbuds and go with the Apple AirPods. The AirPods are light and easy to recharge. As are the Samsung Buds+ and the Momentum. The Sennheiser Momentum is on a level by itself. Sound quality that sounds like you have a mini home theater in your ears. With a custom eq in app, sound engineers will geek out and the casual customer will realize these should be the standard which all other high-end wireless speakers should be measured against. These are surprisingly light weight as well. Battery life is a little on the short side but if you’re looking to buy wireless earphones for sound and sound alone, stop reading other reviews, stop researching and buy these. I tested jazz, hip hop, latin and rock on all three products. All genres set at their default eq levels (to attempt to normalize my experiment). Sennheiser beat all of these models by a long shot. If you are able to pay for $150 earbuds, make the move and go for these at $200. Apple AirPods are $150 and they are better than decent but less than great. These Sennheiser Momentum earbuds are excellent. The top of the Sennheiser case is actually kind of flimsy with a very thick and sturdy base. I can’t think of anyone who would say this is a make or break issue. I hope this helps you. I found it frustrating that there are so many reviews online but no one who would just cut to the chase. Either way, enjoy!

Too expensive for poor performance
After looking at many videos and reading tirelessly in search for a true wireless earphone that has great sound quality I decided to go against my best judgement, disregard the exorbitant price and purchase the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds. But before I go straight into this let me provide a little detail. My first choice was the Jabra Elite 65t. As I got those I was very disappointed in the sound quality. They were left to be desired; it was evening when I got those earbuds (Jabra Elite 65t) so left them to charge and decided to give them a fresh try in the morning. Unfortunately only the right earbud was working, it appeared that either the case or the earbud was not charging. So I returned them immediate via mail. Initially I was in the search for a budget earbuds, although I love to listen to my music with rich sound; sufficient bass, meds and treble. So I decided to search for a wireless earbud with the following priority: 1. Sound quality, 2. Tight fit (noise cancellation), 3. Battery life, 4. Call quality and finally 5. price. All videos pointed to the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds as one of the top best sound quality earbuds. The reviews about the battery life, fit, call quality and price were all poor. However, with sound quality being my priority I completely ignored the other categories. After waiting for two weeks I got the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds. The sound quality was far better than the Jabra Elite 65t. However for an earbud at the price point of $300 I was a bit disappointed in the sound quality; the trebles were lacking, the bass was good but missing the heart pounding feeling. I Played around with the equalizer, tried various genres with high quality sounds to ensure I gave it a fair run. But the treble and bass was still not meeting my expectations, especially at such a ridiculous price. The phone quality and the app connections are one of the worse. At first I could hardly make calls. Whenever I would call someone I would hear them answer and I would say hello and they would hang up cause they just couldn't hear me. After upgrading to the latest software version 1.26 the call quality improved a little. However, if you want to use these earbuds for calls out in the open, (on the streets, in the public) be prepared to speak loudly and have strangers listen to your conversation. In a quite room its good but other than that its no good for a personal conversation. The app most times disconnects and have to be closed and started over. The battery life is the worse of all, I barely get a good two hours from the headphones listening to music at over 50% volume. The primary reason for these earbuds is for music and personally, two hours of music is not my average listing pleasure. So what do I like about the earbuds? The design is nice, the black with the silver looks great and it fits well in my ear. Although I would recommend the company using a softer material than the hard plastic which becomes uncomfortable to the ear after about using it for an hour. The edges of my inner ear hurts due to the hard plastic, it should be softer. Also the plastic is a bit slippery and sometimes makes it difficult to remove from the charging case or from my ears. Another thing I like is the concept of the touch controls. I got the hang of it and it makes it very easy to use the earbuds as if they are not even in your ear. It makes it natural to use with simple and quick touches. However, there is a bit of issues sometimes. Not sure if it is the app and the connection between the earbuds and the device but sometimes the commands are not always followed. Overall, I would feel happier paying $200 for these than the extra $100. Sure, the sound quality is above average except for the trebles and bass lacking a bit more punch. The controls are great and fits naturally. However the battery life is mediocre, call quality is ridiculous and the material hurts the ear with extended use. Sennheiser needs to tweak the trebles and bass, extend the battery life to an average of 8 hours, use more comfortable material, fix the app connection issues and a more stable touch control experience and then I can justify the $300 price.

Best Sound Quality but...
The sound quality is real, strong and mostly, clear. The price is quite high. I'd have paid 200ish for it and here's why. The sound quality is the best part about it. The transparency mode is just as amazing as the sound quality. There are a couple downsides that make this kinda disappointing. For one, the fact if you want to use one earbud at a time, it can only be the right earbud. Nothing happens if you leave the left earbud in only. The touch features are sloppy. I don't even bother touching the buds if I need siri or adjust volume. I'll just use my phone or apple watch. The size of the earbuds are rather big. Big enough to leave a very uncomfortable pain in your ear after a while. There is a "perfect" fit but it takes some fiddling to get it to feel comfortable. The app used for this has a nifty equalizer and it's also very helpful. It just sucks that if you use your earphones after taking them out of the case, transparency mode has to be turned on again through the app. The only thing the earphones save is the equalizer setting. The real reason I got these earphones was for the sound quality. I'm an audiophile and these earphones are top notch. My workplace keeps me moving a whole lot so using a wired headset would snag and get in the way. I needed a wireless solution and yet give me that amazing sound quality large headphones would give me. I just wish we could use the earphones separately using either side instead of just one side. That's my only real gripe.

As much as I love Sennheiser,
I've been using Sennheiser products for ten years, and they're known for their incredible sound quality and product builds. These true wireless earbuds carry on that history of fantastic sound, but by god, literally everything else about these earbuds are a frustrating issue. 1. The touchpad interface is flakey, unresponsive, and has an obnoxious input delay for when you want to rewind, skip, or change the volume. 2. The touchpad interfaces malfunctions at times and reduces the volume to 0 or to full without my input. 3. The app that supports Momentum is no longer supported, and attempts to customize out the obnoxious inut commands is not a possibility. 4. The earbuds do not function unless the left one is active, which can't be adjusted due to the app no longer being available. 5. The earpads continue to operate at times even when they're back in the box, draining battery power. 6. The earbuds and the box may occasionally malfunction and refuse to turn on unless plugged in for a second, even when the battery is fully charged. 7. The earbuds inconsistently connect and require several attempts of me returning them to the box and taking them out. 8. The earbuds may on occasional mute on one ear and not the other and refuse to operate simultaneously until I attempt several tries of putting them back in and taking them out of the box. 9. The battery drains rapidly, even when not in use. 10. Taking out the left earbud pauses whatever music or video you're watching, which may be useful if it weren't for the fact that only the left earbud has the ability to play a song, so you have to manually restart a song/video you're listening to. And I had to deal with at least 2-3 of the issues in this list every day for the past month I've used it. Do yourself a favor and get yourself true wireless earbuds that match good sound quality with a more functioning product and user interface. Unfortunately for Sennhesier this time around, good quality sound alone won't carry your product.

Update: Fantastic Sound and Fit
My original post (below) was a one-star as the right earbud was defective. I called Sennheiser customer service, as Amazon was out of stock, they helped me replace the defective pair and had a new pair shipped immediately. I received the new pair last night. I've used them for music, TV and telephone calls. They sound really good and do a very nice job of cutting out/minimizing the background noise. They come with multiple earbud sizes and fit well. The controls are very easy and intuitive to use and remember. I disagree with the telephone quality that was mentioned in another review - they sound great and people can hear me without issue. I haven't had Sennheisers for a while and am very glad I have these. Really great earbuds! Thanks to the Sennheiser customer service team for standing behind your product. Good work! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original post: I wanted these earbuds so much when I read the reviews. When I got them I followed the instructions/quick start. I tried to pair them to my iPad and iPhone. The right ear touch didn't work. I finally get them connected to my iPhone. Once connected I did a factory reset and hoped that would fix the problem. It didn't. The next morning I took them both out of the charging case and the right and left touch was working. I love it. I put them back in the case when I was done and then went to use them again and the right touch wasn't working again. I called support @sennheiser and they said use it for a couple of days and it may do a reset in the case that fixes it. It hasn't. Amazon doesn't know when they'll get more so I either have to return them with no new ones coming or send them the Sennheiser and wait up to two weeks. Very disappointed.

Really good! As long as you go in knowing what to expect.
Alright, so the hype on the sound quality on these is pretty justified. They have a great sound stage, and everything is balanced, which is the main reason I went with them over the Powerbeats Pro. I feel like generally the “thing” nowadays is for the bass to drown everything else out instead of giving a nice balanced signal. These definitely don’t fall victim to that trend, they sound almost as balanced as my HS8 studio monitors, and i wouldn’t really expect anything else from Sennheiser. I’ve used their products for years and they take this stuff pretty seriously. That being said, the battery drain issue is real, even after the update that claimed to fix it. If you plan on using these every day, you absolutely have to charge them every night. I made the mistake the first day of using them for ~4 hours and thinking “hey, they still have over 50% battery, I guess i don’t have to charge them tonight”. Definitely still do, not sure what the issue is here but it’s not super annoying as long as you know what to expect and that you have to charge them every time you plan on using them. The app (on IOS betas 13-13.2 and iPhone XS Max) has been shotty at best. If you pair these to your phone and connect to them, the app will not recognize them. I found the trick is, that works darn near every time, is to open up the case to turn them on, go into your phone settings and disconnecting them, and THEN go open the app, and everything will connect well and good. After that, you have to go back into your settings and connect to them for your phone to actually stream music to them for some reason, but then EQ and al that will work great. Never had a single issue with sync watching videos, nor sync problems between the two buds. The passive sound cancelling in them is pretty impressive, I work in noisy environments daily (loud trucks, equipment, aircraft) and as long as you pick the right fitting silicone tips, it’s super quiet. Just for fun I even compared them to my Bose A20 aviation headset with active noise cancelling in a cruising aircraft, don’t know if this anecdote will fully land for anyone that hasn’t been in a GA aircraft but it’s pretty darn loud, and they held their own for avoiding a headache for sure. Overall, still the best sounding true wireless buds on the market and that’s well worth it for me. If you care more about battery life or noise cancelation though, Id go with the new sony’s, which are also great! But nowhere near the sound quality in my opinion.

Died after almost 2 years
The sound quality was amazing. The build quality of the hinge is very cheap and will break eventually. Fast forward almost 2 years after buying it, the case itself does not accept charge anymore making it unusuable.
