What's the difference between this model and the previous model bluesound vault 2?

Hello, thank you for your question. Across all Gen2i Bluesound players (including Vault 2i) there are the following enhancements (exceptions noted(: (1) Support for AirPlay 2 (this was delivered by a recent software update following certification from Apple). Now you can stream just about any audio directly to Bluesound from your favourite device. (Imagine premium sound from Netflix or YouTube). (2) 2-way Bluetooth (both receive and transmit functionality) (Note: Pulse Flex2i only supports receive). This means you can now play from your device or receive from Bluesound (e.g. to headphones). (3) aptX Bluetooth resulting in truly outstanding sound performance. (4) Dual Band wifi (NB: this is not applicable to Vault2i) (Vault intentionally does not have wifi capability and must be ethernet attached - this is due to the potential for higher demands on your network when streaming multiple files or backing up the 2TB hard drive). (5) The Pulse family of speakers have dramatically enhanced amplification. (6) Pulse Soundbar includes HDMI ARC and eARC to enhance connectivity and flexibility of use (effectively makes the soundbar "part" of your TV).

How does the software index music - & can it be modified?

Hello, when you rip the CD using the Vault's CD ripper drive, the BluOS software talks to online databases such as Gracenotes or CDDB to pick up the track metadata and album art. This data is held embedded in the ripped file and/or the folder in which the tracks are stored. The metadata can be edited very easily using one of a number of metadata editors available online (freeware/shareware/purchased). The Vault (and databases) do a very good job of getting the metadata right but occasionally the odd edit is useful. Hope this helps. Feel free to reach out to us to discuss in more detail. Can the Vault 2i stream music stored on it to non Bluesound Bluetooth speakers?

Hello, thank you for your question. Yes it can. The Vault 2i has two-way APTX Bluetooth. This means it can be used for inbound Blutooth music as well as outbound (think Bluetooth headphones). Its outbound is actually intended for headphone connectivity but it can also be paired to active Bluetooth speakers since they would work the same way as headphones. Thanks again for asking. Can the Vault 2i be used as a server connected to the router via ethernet, stored in a upstairs cupboard serving Bluetooth speakers in different rooms

Hi, That would be a very unusual use for the Vault. The answer is both no, and  a possible yes. No, in that it cannot serve multiple bluetooth devices simultaneously. You would be forever pairing and re-pairing devices to do this so it would be very irritating. Also Bluetooth wireless is simply not designed to do this. It is not powerful enough to stretch more than a few feet and not a "multi-room" architecture like BluOS is. The possible "yes", is that the Vault is indeed a Network attached storage device and can serve up music in the same way as any shared networked drive. So if you can configure other devices to read the music, it is probably possible to concoct something. I would strongly suggest that, even if it's possible, this would be a convoluted and costly exercise when the Vault is already designed to serve music to multiple Networked players itself - ie not Bluetooth ones. You do not have to serve the music just to BluOS (the ecosystem it is designed for) devices. You can serve the music to other systems also. But the Vault comes into its own when it is (1) attached to a hifi system and (2) part of a wider BluOS system. Feel free to call our experts to discuss in detail. Thanks for asking.
