.co.uk Just another chillout CD? Perhaps not. Although on first listen there are no obvious standouts, Nirvana Lounge 2 turns out to be a grower. Prem Joshua's "Secret Place" has a very catchy melody, along with some very soothing woodwind and sitar. "Kissing" by Bliss is certainly a highlight with the accordion adding a subtle touch that provides it with that something different, while the orchestration remains simple yet effective. There's a change of mood with Samcos's "El 68", the slow jazz/funk grove is mixing well with a nice downbeat rhythm. Ganga's "Hi Fi Love" continues the jazz theme, this time with a calypso rhythm thrown in for good measure which adds a nice summery sway to the track. CD2 "Ethnic lounge" opens with the trippy "We Enter" by Alladin, a refreshing upbeat change from CD1. The jazz theme dwindles and becomes more dance-based with Blue Planet's "Latin Masala" being the only possible exception. Mo'horizons' cover of "Hit The Road Jack" brings the set to an end on a high note, its hammond organ and brass section turn the track into something that could have fitted in nicely on an Austin Powers soundtrack. --Jamie Clarke
