Review: I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis (left knee) but have always loved power walking and wanted to get back into walking .. - Ok, where do I start...I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis (left knee) but have always loved power walking and wanted to get back into walking or some form of exercise (as I refuse to allow my osteoarthritis control me or take away my quality of life (I'm 49...geez, thought my body would start breaking down in my late 60s...smh). So I decided to purchase this DVD and boy am I glad I did! I gave myself a starting goal of 3 miles four days a week. I absolutely LOVE this DVD! I've been doing it now for the past 2months. I do 3 miles four days a week and am amazed how even those short miles add up by the end of the week/month! Going into my 3rd week, I really listened to Leslie when she said this is my walk DVD and I can make it what I want. As long as I keep my feet moving to the pace of the music. Hence, if I want to walk all the way through for my 3 miles, I can, or if I want to do knee lifts when she's on kicks, or do side steps while she's on knee lifts or kick backs, I can do any of the four basic moves I want and in any order I choose and I must say, this makes my workouts so much more fun and doable (not that it wasn't fun before). But there are days when I didn't want to do what she was doing or my knee was aching a little more that day than the day prior. So I choose to make my walk DVD what I want it to be and before I know it I've completed my 3 miles for the day (I'll soon work up to the total 4 miles one day...lol). I'm drenched by the time I've completed my walk. Since going into my 2nd month, I've incorporated light hand weights and again I do whatever exercises I choose but make sure to keep to the beat of the music and I do lots of arm exercises throughout my workout. Anyone on the fence about purchasing this walk DVD...BUY IT! This is by far the best workout DVD I've purchased (and I've purchased a lot...lol) I've tried hot yoga & pilates but realized (though both practices are great) the bends here and there caused my left knee to ache and regular walking (in the park or on a track) also brought discomfort to my left knee. But this walk DVD allows me to get the exercise I need, feel good about being able to do my favorite type of exercise...WALK...instead of making excuses and sitting on the couch and wishing the pounds away. I do not write a lot of reviews but had to do a review for this DVD. Hopefully my review helps anyone suffering from joint pain (osteoarthritis) but still desires to remain physically active and taking baby steps to get back and/or improve their quality of life! Review: Perfect for my 64-year-old body! My neice liked it too. - Love this Leslie DVD. I've been using it for about three years. I like how you have various choices as far as how many miles you want to do. These are low-impact steps which basically include side-to-side steps, kicks, knee lifts, and some arm exercises. I usually one do one mile and use the cool down at the end of the four mile workout. Including the warm up and warm down, it takes about 20 minutes. I'm 64 and hope to be able to join Leslie and her friends for many more workouts.

Excellent walking video
If you are familiar with Leslie Sansone, you know her fitness empire is built on walking moves and simple modifications of four or so basic movements. This is no exception, but there is a bit of higher impact thrown in to the "power miles". I am a pretty fit baby boomer who has been exercising for over 30 years and have taught fitness classes myself. So based on that experience and knowledge I highly recommend this video for its soundness, safety, and effectiveness. If you don't want simple moves or a chatty instructor, then Leslie is not for you. If you want supportive, friendly and not "hardcore in your face bootcamp" on some days, this low key workout will satisfy. Even though I consider myself to be very fit, I enjoy this workout about one a week. To make it challenging enough I hold small weights while doing the 4 miles. The power miles are true intervals (very sound practice) and you can raise your heart rate effectively and then lower it quickly during the "resting" periods. If you are not so fit, or must avoid impact exercises, you can do the regular miles, omitting the power miles completely. I have probably 4 or 5 Leslie Sansone videos and this is my personal favorite. The reason I bought this one from Amazon is that my copy before just wore out--scratched and unplayable! I guess that means I really liked it. Now I have my new copy and all is right with my exercise world. The price at Amazon was better than the leading exercise video catalog or local big box retailers. I highly recommend this video to any home exerciser of any fitness level with appropriate, common sense modifications as indicated.

Good for the intermediate/advanced "walker", not for fitness enthusiasts
This is a good walking video with an introduction to HIIT, or interval training. The first mile is the usual Leslie Sansone warm up (4 basic moves) and she starts walking a little faster. In mile two, the rest of her class is gone and you're just walking with Leslie and she cools you down a bit from the end of the first mile and then she ramps it up with "intervals" of hopping around for a few minutes and then walking slower for a few minutes. She alternates this three times. She does the same thing with the third mile but she has two other walkers with her. The "intervals" are okay for beginners, my complaint is that she does the same exact interval three times in each mile (and no, Leslie, I refuse to "fist pump"). I wish she would've changed it up a bit. I don't like how there is a full two minutes in between each interval. I'm no expert when it comes to the science of exercising but it seems like your heart rate goes down too low in those two minutes before you ramp it back up with another interval, so it doesn't seem like the intervals are very effective in the end. A traditional HIIT workout has maybe 30 seconds or a minute max of rest in between intervals. Anyway, the 4th mile goes faster at the start, then Leslie does her usual cool down. I consider myself an advanced exerciser and I found myself still jumping some of the moves in the 4th mile (I probably could have have done the video all over again after that). Overall, I think it's a pretty good video that Leslie Sansone fans will like.

Best Leslie Sansone workout, IMO
I own a lot of Leslie Sansone DVDs, and I've decided this one is the best. The difficulty of her DVDs can vary. Sometimes they're frustratingly easy (her earlier ones), but in the case of this one and a few others (the Belly Blast one is great too), she reaches the exact difficulty level I'm looking for--challenging, but not too much so. The first mile is easy, but that's because it's the warm up. After that, you hit the first 15-minute interval session. The moves seem really easy, but it gets your heart pumping. The same goes for the second 15-minute interval session. The last session is just a classic walking session, but there's still some bouncing and hopping around to keep your heart rate up. Then, like in all of her DVDs, she ends it with a stretch. Basically, I love it. For days when I feel like being really good, I go for the whole hour, but if I'm pressed for time I just mix and match three of the sessions for a 45-minute workout. YES, I see a lot of people complaining about the fact that you can't access the 4 sessions separately--your only options are the 2-mile classic walk and the 2-mile interval walks--but there's this wacky thing on your remote called the 'next' button. If, for instance, you only want to do the second interval session, you need only hit the 2-mile interval walk on the menu and then hit your remote's 'next' button. It will magically transport your DVD to the exact part you're looking for! Sorry for the sarcasm. Anyway, this workout is perfect in my opinion. It gets my heart pumping and time flies.

Love this workout!!
I around 18 of Leslie's DVDs and rotate them to keep my workouts from getting boring. I am currently doing her Walk It Off in 30 Days and I only have a few days left until I complete the 30 days. Since I like doing some cardio everyday I do the 2 Mile Classic Walk after the Firm 30 Workout since my muscles are fatigued after strength training and I am not up to the power surges just a good cardio workout. I do like the power surges in the other miles when I am up to doing them which are like a milder version of HIIT (I am not fit enough for real HIIT yet). The surges consist of jogging or high knees and twists. I don't really care for the twists (they feel awkward to me and I have carpet) so I just keep jogging or doing high knees instead. This is a good DVD and I like the change in pace.

One of my favorite Leslie DVDs!
I love Leslie and have been using her Walk Away The Pounds DVDs for probably 10+ years now. I love that she's keeping things fresh and incorporating new moves and routines into her latest workouts. She's keeping it fun and interesting. This is one of my absolute favorites. I would say that it's not for beginners and it's not low impact like a lot of her workouts, so if you're just starting out with her or need mostly low impact moves, I wouldn't go with this DVD. But if you're an experienced walker then you are probably craving more intense workouts and this 4 Mile Power Walk will give it to you! I really sweat to this one and feel great afterwards. My only complaint is about the walkers that are with her - honestly, most of them are just awful. There are 3 ladies that I recognize from a few of her other DVDs (Camilla, Carrie, Heather), and I love them as they are high energy and keep pace with Leslie. But the rest of the walkers? Ugh, awful. They can't keep pace with Leslie and seem to just bounce all over the place, which is actually distracting if you do end up keeping your eyes on them. I have to make sure I'm only looking at Leslie or the other 3 ladies or I can get off beat/off step a bit, even as a very experienced walker.

Definitely High Impact All The Way - May be better on DVD
In the streaming video, the first mile is a briskly paced routine that alternates between low and high impact. For Leslie, high impact is generally some form of jogging and toe extensions. The second is a really nicely done HIIT mile that builds from a very slow pace and ends very briskly. Following these two miles is a 2 mile continuous HIIT set that is very brisk. I initially wanted to rate this with 2 stars because the long fade outs between Miles 1-2 and 2-3/4 made me wonder if the workout were over and the 28 second silences were disconcerting to my pace. Additionally, there's no way to stream this and be able to navigate ahead to the 2 mile set later in the video. So, at first, I didn't even know there was a 2 mile set and despaired that all breaks between miles would be the same. The cover implies distinct workouts but maybe that's only for the dvd. But I am a long time fan of Leslie's videos and it's clear she is upping the game in her more recent workout videos. It was obvious from what I could get through that she was trying to introduce the HIIT at a higher pace. I wanted to give it a chance. After trying it on my PC, then my Kindle and getting annoyed, I streamed it on ROKU so I could fast forward it with a remote. THEN, I discovered the longer set. About The Workout: If you are new to Leslie, have no health issues, and want a good, overall workout with Leslie's newer HIIT work and some strength training, I urge you to rent the 5 Mega Miles first. 5 Mega Miles is one of her best produced and edited and is a great introduction to her philosophy and techniques while really getting the HR up there. If you're new to Leslie, need low impact but regularly workout or walk, try the 4 Mile Super Challenge. No HIIT but a nice intro. The editing and navigation on this 4 Mile Power Walk streaming video can turn you off to her and that would be unfortunate. If you're a long time Leslie fanatic but need low impact moves, I might suggest you rent, not buy. The speed is already "boosted", the new moves aren't low impact (bouncing, fast jumping jacks, some interesting hip action, jogging, etc.) and there's no provision or chatter about "just go back to walking" or "Mary Kay is doing the low impact". Additionally, there's no one who's not in good shape or younger than 50. Some folks find that to be intimidating. BUT - if you're like me: looking for an increase in pace and a new Leslie challenge, this can be a good one as long as you understand the editing or, perhaps the dvd has actual navigation. Now that I can get to the longer, continuous set I'll be doing that portion of it frequently. I own over 25 Leslie videos, produced over 3 decades. While they all have their production, edit or audio quirks, not one of those has fade outs like these. It is unfortunate, that.

Fun, effective workout
An awesome, energetic workout, especially the entire 4 mile power walk option. Even this 64 year old can keep up! Highly recommend it!

Good exercise
Good DVD if going out walking alone is daunting. Easy to follow and gets the heart rate up. Take about an hour for the full 4 miles but you can skip to the cool down if you want.Beats going out in the rain.

I enjoyed this DVD and found it went really quickly. It wasn't too hard but still burnt a decent amount of calories.
