Edma EDM0310 310/1005 Mat Slate & Punch Cutter

Like most DIY people, when you come to slating a roof you don't want to spend a fortune on tools you'll once. However, you do need tools that are up to the job. I've tried cutting slate numerous ways and eventually recognised you do need a pair of quality slate cutters with hole punch. These are very good for cutting new slate. Not sure they will work on thick old slates, but then the weren't bought for that.

Never slated ..we tackled an 'A' line shed roof ..my daughter & I never broke a single tile, even though we used a natural Welsh slate. Initially I had thought the tool expensive, but I bit the bullet ..Invaluable!

Was worried they would be a cheaper brand but no they was the mat 1005. I wanted these particularly because of the rubber on the lip of the handle which definitely makes all the difference through my own experiences as being a roofer for 18 years and tried probably every pair of slate cutters going. I highly recommend these for manmade slates definitely not a natural Brazilian but most other natural slate it’s perfect with although I tend to use my slater’s hammer and axe for the majority of natural slate which I recommend fruend for that.

The slate puncher worked well initially, but after one or two thicker slate's holes that were harder to punch through, the metal work got slightly bent and the holes became harder to make. Eventually I had to take it apart and bash it back into shape again, which allowed me to finish the roof. I wouldn't say they are brilliant, but they weren't too bad, so long as you don't expect them to work on hard Welsh slates. The slates I used with the cutter are soft slates, but over 7mm the cutter struggled.

Cuts through tile like butter. Very solid and well made bit of kit.

Used for slate tiles. Previously borrowed one from a friend , found it easy to use and impressed with it's cutting and hole punch ,so I purchased one for my own use.

Had one for years & stupidly lent it to someone & never saw it again. Been doing/got a lot of slating to do so bought this one. Came quickly & been using it today & has preformed well

I have been a slater for 40 odd years ,slaters stick with the slate knife,these cutters are absolutely useless.I bought these thinking i would save time cutting flanks and haffits , i would have been quicker using my teeth.

Coupe le fibrociment facilement, poinçonne encore plus facilement. Aucun problème à l'utilisation et... solide... (elle est tombée 2 fois de l'échafaudage, 2 étages sur du pavé, sans dégât)

Does the job well

My roof has ⅜ slates. They don’t fit within the tool and I can't use it here. We did get some 'thin tiles' that are <⅜" and it punches those, no problem. Great tool for most stone roofs, I think.
