Looks beautiful. Great buy for the money.
The yellow maple finish allows the grain of the maple wood to show through and it looks great. The bridge, ebony fingerboard, tailpiece and ebony pegs were all properly set up. I changed the strings to Dominant and that greatly improved the sound. The PHONE output never worked. The MIC output is perfect for my amp. The LINE OUT output is OK for headphones but the sound is weak. The battery was dead so I used a new battery. The bow seems adequate but I am using my own bow. The case is OK except that the zipper tabs all broke off. I replaced them with cable ties which work great.

Wonderful for quiet practicing
It arrived nice and safe and I was actually surprised at how nice it was for the price. The pickup with headphones (I use skull candy ear buds, not the ones that came with it) sometimes goes in and out when your turn the plug, and it took some fiddling to get the tone right, but it's wonderful for practicing, which is why I got it It can be heard in the next rooms, but it's not at a disturbing level. It's a whisper. You could easily play without turning it on. Replace the strings. Your tone will thank you. Mine was a warehouse deal, so the paint is a little bit in need of love, but I plan on painting it anyway. The accessories are of amazing quality. I was surprised. The cleaning cloth especially. The inside of my case was blue, which is so pretty. The case also has the back pack straps for easy carrying. Wonderful.

Considering the excellent price we are happy with the music
This was purchased as a Christmas present for our 11 year old daughter who has been playing the violin for approx. 3 years. Considering the price we didn't really have very high expectations but we were pleasantly surprised that everything that was supposed to be in the package was. The tuning of the violin has proven to be a challenge for my daughter but we told her not to expect this violin to sound exactly like her acoustic one. She was very pleased at how 'cool' it looked and has been playing with it with no problems.

Nice fiddle, but electronics and bow are junk
The violin is okay; not the greatest tone, but plays fine. Very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the peg work, though the bridge is probably too thick and needs to be lowered unless you like the action really high. Replacing the low quality strings would also be advisable. There was a slight cosmetic blemish on the finish, but entirely acceptable in my opinion. The bow that came with the violin is warped beyond playability and would cost hundreds of dollars to straighten, so putting it in the trash is the best option. The major problem is the output jacks, which only function intermittently. It's very annoying when you're playing and then all of a sudden there's no sound. Extraneous clicks and pops were improved by using a well shielded monster cable, but that didn't solve the drop out problem from the main output. I really like the look and feel of this particular model and wish the electronics could be upgraded. Am checking around to see if there's a luthier who can replace some parts, otherwise this instrument will be going back as a return.

Slim, light, beautiful
Some assembly required, and tuning. Once set up complete itโs comfortable and the modern design adds new dimension to how I play the instrument in adding to the โemotionโ of play!

Cecilio 4/4 CEVN-4Y Solid Wood Electric/Silent Violin with Ebony Fittings...
This is a decent violin for the money. I purchased it since I would be away on business and needed something that I could use in the hotel room without bothering the other guests. It is quiet enough for that. I don't believe the sound will penetrate in to the other rooms. It is much quieter than a violin with the mute installed. I have not tried it plugged in to any of my amplifiers since I do not see myself using this instrument in other than a practice environment. On my violin, the bridge holder was skewed to the G string side. Without modifying it, it would not be enjoyable playing this violin. Repair requires full tear down of the instrument.........something that would likely cost ore than the price paid if you do not know how to work on instruments as I do. I also cut a new bridge and changed the strings to D'Addarios. What it comes with are lousy as with most cheap violins. All in all it is okay. I am sure I got an odd ball since many instructors suggest this brand of instrument to students. This is intended for beginners that want an electric violin. Get a Yamaha, you'll be happy if you want an in expensive electric violin.

not ebony
fingerboard is not ebony it is some other type of wood that has been painted black. im not an expert;it may have fooled me had they painted it before putting it together. You can see on the underside where the black paint ran over onto the body of the violin. the body itself (on the yellow model) is pretty nice. natural wood grain stained yellow with a sparkly metallic clear-coat over top. strings are cheap but they tune easily. this violin is great for practicing quietly in the evening as long as you have insulated walls. I still use a mute. It is much quieter than an acoustic but still far from silent. you will need to purchase an adjustable Shoulder Rest it doesnt come with one. and a full size 4/4 rest will be to big. it is a full size violin but is a bit narrower than a traditional acoustic violin. The rest I had is adjustable so it fit fine. I was happy with this purchase initially. would have given 4 *s. 4 and 1/2 if i could but ebony doesn't mean painted black. chinrest and tail look plastic-y but may be real ebony its hard to tell. pegs are made of black wood I cant tell weather they have been stained or if it is their natural color.

Really good violin!
I just received this today and have played it for about 3 hours. This is the best violin I've owned so far however, there are a few things that I am not satisfied with. The bow came with most hairs broken(Resolved) The rosin isn't the greatest and the back is missing some paint. Overall this is a great deal for the price, pegs don't slip and it stays in tune well and suits beginners/intermediates well. I would suggest buying new strings too! I recommend prelude medium tension :)
