Review: The best cookbook I have ever read. - I am not an Elder scrolls fan. I do not play video games. So my review reflects only the quality of the food, not the level of accuracy to game lore. I will say though that my son is a huge fan of the game, and he is quite happy with book. He commented that map is not as he remembers it, but it may be from a different edition of the game. He enjoys the book, and it is beautifully illustrated, but I can not comment myself on accuracy. I purchased this as means to get a teenager to try different foods. And it absolutely worked. My son says this is the best food he has ever eaten. I have to agree. The food is very simple to make, though their are few niche ingredients which can be difficult to come by in the UK. It does not require large amounts of preparation time. And the food is absolutely wonderful. I think my sons favourite is the sweetrolls, though we did find this just a bit bland. We quickly altered this to two versions, the dark elf version being made with with an almond filling similiar to that of bear claws, and becoming more of a dark brown, and the high elf version with a drop of lemon or orange. The main recipe is quite neutral so can be easily altered to suit individual tastes. We also used more cinnamon than the recipe suggests. The overall favourite for the family is braised rib stew with faro ( barley ). Beef ribs are extremely difficult to source here, so we had to use diced up beef joint and extra bone broth, but is now one of out very favourite foods,a dn my husband loves it as well. I would caution though that is exceptionally filling. We had this with the lavender honey bread which was also wonderful. Again we made one slight adjustment, we left the lavender out, but the resulting loaf was absolutely perfect. This is a very soft airy bread , ideal for sandwiches as well as with a meal. We tried a number of other recipes and in many cases had to make some tiny adjustment , whether due to inability to find an ingredient or just down to personal taste but these recipes can be easily adjusted when needed. Every single thing we have made has turned out delicious. It is worth noting that the measurements are American. Trust me, once you get used to this, it is much easier than British measurements . You simply scoop, level and dump instead of carefully weighing out ingredients. But you do need a set of American measuring cups, or one with cup with graduated markings, and I would highly recommend measuring spoons as well. This is also a very easy way to teach younger children fractions. We were so delighted with this book we immediately bought two more by the same author, and we are looking forward to our first Horker loaf this weekend. Very highly recommended. Review: Good choice of recipes - An excellent cookbook and if you are a gamer and into the Elder Scrolls it’s extremely relevant. Very impressive, good fun and a great purchase. Thank you

Discover new joys of cooking
This was the first book in the series that I picked up and is probably the most inspirational of the lot. Seeing as the Elder Scrolls series of games has its own menu of dishes, it was exciting to see how the author has adapted some of the better known fantastical recipes to the real world. The selected dishes are well themed to fit what might be a "Viking" dinner table, and many are quite easily modifiable if you are missing out an ingredient or don't want to use something (I am intolerant to shellfish, but easily took out the scallops in some dishes and don't feel like I lost anything). If anything this book taught me several things: 1. The joy of grinding your own spices, as many dishes call for the same mixtures and recommend that you prepare them in advance. This way I discovered what fresh herbs and spices really smell and taste like beyond just shaking a glass jar over something. So you really get a feeling for what you are adding to the dish. 2. Infusing alcohol: the later part of the book has you making your own mead or liqueur (Skooma!) so as mentioned above you will be using your spices to infusing them. Something you'll get a feel for by actually knowing what they taste like and seeing in stages what they add to the overall product. 3. Baking. I was useless at baking prior to this book, because it is more of a science than an art, requiring exact measurements or things go very wrong. A significant portion of this book is given over to bread, cakes, and tarts, so baking is essential. But because it is themed along something it was a joy to learn and make something special. Beyond all this, the recipes also get you to introduce ingredients that you may commonly ignore in the kitchen, such as leeks or cabbage, which are now staples of my home diet in ways they never were before; and my cupboards are now filled with spices that I know how to use in everyday cooking. My main gripe with the book is that the main course section is actually rather short, with much of the pages set aside for the aforementioned sections on baking, spices and alcohol. But seeing as nearly every dish has a strong theme, I can forgive the author for not simply "padding" the menu with common dishes and giving them fantastical names in an attempt to fill space. While it may not be a cook book that you return to for every meal, you know that each time you use it you will likely be making something that really stands out.

Got my son cooking healthy and delicious meals.
Fantastic quality and the recipes are actually rather good the swamp shrimp(rich, sweet, spicy Chinese style shrimp)has been copied into our regular meals folder an we made an extra batch of the sauce to keep in the fridge. I would definitely recommend this book even if you've no interest in the game. These are good healthy meals, tasty deserts ..I've yet to make the drinks but Dandylion an burdock!!! A childhood fave wonder what it'll be like as a creamed tea :o best book I've brought for years:)

Skyrim: The Official Cookbook
There's no doubting Chealsea Monroe-Cassel's abilities as a chef and an author. It's no easy feat taking fantasy dishes from make-believe ingredients, and translating them into tangable and tasty treats, yet she's done this time and time again. You'll hear no complaints from me in regards to the foodstuffs one can create, each with varying levels of difficulty, preparation and type of meal. Plus Monroe-Cassel has taken on feedback from previous books, providing a table comparing measurements depending on where you are in the globe. No longer do readers have to keep resorting to the internet to see the difference between Metric and Imperial (Damned Imperials. S'wits, the lot of 'em!). A complaint I have had with other books is the amount of difficult dishes, but thanks to the Elder Scrolls' more "realistic" approach to fantasy, there's far more dishes for novices. More advanced cooks, or those who want something truly magical, would be better off with Hearthstone's or WoW's book. It'd be an outstanding book on its own, I dare say five stars, but what makes me knock a star down is the uninspired writing and use of the Elder Scrolls license. If a lack of lore or nervous use of Tamriel isn't going to put you off from the book, then I can fully recommend it. At the end of the day, it serves its purpose. But what makes The Elder Scrolls: The Official Cookbook so underwhelming to a fan such as myself is it paints a very weak picture of the series - now 25 years old - and looks like it's cashing in on the name. Every recipe has to reference Skyrim in some way, which would be fine if this were a traveller's guide of the zone, and having to substitute certain ingredients with the native flavour. One of my favourite foods in the series, S'jirra's Famous Potato Bread, is a Cyrodiilic dish and one that is made and sold exclusively by a single Khajiit. Somehow it's a common dish in Skyrim. Should Morrowind be referenced, it will likely be things that were more prominent in the Dragonborn DLC than the plethora of content that can be found in the 2004 game or its location in the MMO. Anything beyond the 3 most popular games contains frustratingly little, as though the scraps of lore are obliged to be small. For a licensed cookbook, there's a noticeable lack of flavour. Not even the flavours experienced in TESIV: Oblivion's "Red Kitchen Reader". *shivers* Conclusion: It's a cracking cookbook that's hard not to recommend for the recipes alone, but the fluff is woeful when compared to other licensed cookbooks such as World of Warcraft's or A Feast of Ice & Fire. None of my complaints are directed toward the author, rather the lack of direction Monroe-Cassel was given by Bethesda.

Great cooking book, especially for Elder Scrolls fans.
Book arrived earlier than expected. The book hosts a whole number of delicious recipes with clear instructions and nice photo's of your favourite in-game dishes. The dishes remind me a lot of French cuisine but with the author's own touch, which gives the recipes something very unique. There's a little lore to be found in the book as well, I don't know if it is canon or not but it's very cool nevertheless. Little warning, the units of the ingredients are in Imperial sizes, fortunately there is a conversion chart in the back of the book and we all have smartphones to Google that stuff anyway. I highly recommend this book, especially if you're an Elder Scrolls fan. If not, the book is still a good on its own if you like hearty dishes.

I Like It, It’s Very Nice BUT The Pages Are Falling Apart After 1 Month
It’s very well designed with nice quality paper. We tried 1 recipe from the book and it was tasty (shrimps). My only problem and it’s a serious one is that the book is falling apart and I barely used it. I own it for less than a month.

Love it
The Elder Scrolls cookbook brings the cuisine of Tamriel to life. The book is full of game references and information about the various races and their foods so if you love Elder Scrolls youll love the book just for the content itself! The recipes are creative and vary in difficulty level and the book is full of recipe photos (i firmly believe cookbooks should have a photo for each dish!) My only issue with the recipes is i find there is a reliance on two types of meats; fish and pork. A mix of different meat items would make it more realistic and consumable for all people with different tastebuds, the book also needs more vegetarian options aside from basic starters! Aside from the minor lack of diversity of the meat used in the dishes i highly recommend!

What in Oblivion is that?!?
Okay... My prior 1 star post was influenced by the package taking over a month to get to me. And with very little evidence of the package even being truly shipped until that month later date... But to my surprise the package like something right out of the twilight zone, it arrived with very little head notice. I am overjoyed at the splendors this book beholds. To the Author Chelsea (I believe thats your name) literally your creativity knows no bounds. The spiral bound version of this cookbook is master tier at the bare minimum. The creative energy used to make these combinations and concoctions is impressive at the very least. With beautiful imagery as well as assorted treats, drinks, sweets & full course meals. This is a must have for any chef in the making & in any Elder Scrolls loving households kitchen. Delve into the forbidden knowledge of The Elder Scrolls cookbook and all it has to offer you. Absorb the recipes, hone your master chef skills. And make your potlucks something straight out of a nerds wet dreams. Trust me, as a fellow nerd I assure you, it IS indeed worth it.
