If anyone is sleeping in your house you cannot use the fireplace, it will wake them up. If you live in an apartment it will almost certainly annoy your neighbors. Not sure why they did this.2) They’ve programmed the light to go through cycles of dim and bright every 5 seconds or so. I’ve never seen an actual fire do this, and it makes it look much less realistic, almost tacky. There’s no advantage of this. It’s the one aspect that lets you immediately tell that it’s not a real fire. I love this log set!!! Makes the room warmer and gives you ambience like a normal fire.The beep is not loud as mentioned in other reviews and the log lights going lower and higher really make it nice. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Warm and wonderful with two small shortcomings *by A***A on Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2020* The media could not be loaded.  This fireplace insert is awesome in many ways and falls short in only two ways. What’s great is that it fits perfectly in our small fireplace, and the power cord is long enough to access our outlet even though it’s on the opposite side of the unit (cord on right of unit). The flame-effect is very realistic and can work whether the heat is on or not. Speaking of heat, this unit heated up our 600 sq. ft. basement really well! After an hour, I had to turn the heat off!And while we’re on the subject of heat, let’s talk about where this insert falls short. It heats well, but there’s no way to adjust the temperature, so it’s either heat or no heat! The other shortcoming is the burning ember effect. You can adjust how bright the embers are, but you can’t stop them from dimming and brightening every 5 seconds or so. That’s the one feature that puts a slight damper on the realistic effect.Apart from its two slight imperfections, this fireplace insert is a wonderful addition to our basement for a little fireplace ambiance and lots of heat. It is certainly comparable to the more expensive brands.
