hi im size 10 uk will they fit ok?

I doubt it. My brother is size 10 and I returned them as I couldn't see that they could fit.

Are they a loose grip on the top of the sock?

Personally, my ankles are 9.5 inches in circumference and I bought the largest size. These socks are loose enough for me to use them but I am glad to take them off because they leave quite a deep mark and I worry about my feet getting less than an optimal amount of blood supply. I have not yet found any that have managed to balance holding up effectively against leaving almost zero compression mark and I now suspect that this is not possible.

I have wide calves are they tight at the top?

After several washes the circumference of the top is 16cm then if pulled out to the full stretch it is 40cm. The top is 17cm above the back of the heal, then if the sock is pulled to its full stretch it is 30cm. This should help judge whether socks will be a comfortable fit.
