It works well and its priced right. Works on more Nikons that are listed..read below

Yes, it works! I had hesitated to buy this unit because there was some confusion as to what cameras it would work with. I wish I had gotten it sooner!First, the cameras I own: D500, D750, D7100, D5200Of these (and most Nikon models) there are two common connectors. (N1 and N3) This unit comes with cables to fit them both, the round 10 pin used on higher end cameras like the D5, D500, and more, and the rectangular connector used on the D750, D5200, D7100, etc. Rest assured, it does work on your D500 as I have tested it on all these cameras.Another point of confusion from the small number of questions and reviews here: Yes it comes with an adapter that clips onto your camera strap. AND, yes it comes with a wired remote control and be happy it does as its very useful. It will fire the shutter or can hold it open for a time exposure with a handy easy to use lock feature. Its included with the unit so its just a nice free bonus! As for how this thing will hold up in the long run I will say this: I don't know yet. The cables look about the same quality on other devices I have for my Nikon's so I can't complain at this price point. My experience has been that OEM Nikon accessories (which cost way way more) will be more rugged and last longer under heavy use as you would expect. That said, these aftermarket parts will last if cared for and not abused. If you are an amateur and take care of your gear I would not fear the quality. If you are a hard working pro who really beats his equipment around I would look at professional grade, higher dollar, gear. For the price I paid for this unit I am very well satisfied.Connections: Quick and easy. Plug it in, turn every thing on, go to the tools menu on your camera and make sure you have it set for "location data".Turn it on, a green light will blink as it searches. Once it finds its location the light will become a steady green. Its as simple as that. You can view your location on the camera's menu or take a photo and see the location and time it was shot on the data for the picture.GPS performance: First time I turned it on I was inside my house and it was taking some time to lock. I took it outside with an open sky and it quickly locked in. After the initial use it seems to lock on signals much better, even working inside my house. In doors it will lock on now in just a few seconds. I am very satisfied with its performance in this regard.I have no idea yet how it will hold up in the long run so I could only give it four stars for Durability. After some use I can come back and revisit this review with updated information. Meanwhile I regret not buying this sooner as it would have been a great help!I am a happy owner and really enjoy this unit! I just wish I had bought one sooner, especially at this price point.

Works well but....

I bought this to replace one from a discontinued design that I lost last year. This was for a specific 10 day trip. The receiver itself works very well. It resolves a location fairly quickly and it is a drain on the battery but not too bad.BUT the cable is junk. It is about a foot long which is far longer than needed for the hot shoe to the camera port. I suppose it's sized for being attached to the camera strap but I don't use that. The camera connector feels like it's dimensionaly wrong - I screwed it in but it wiggled a bit and fell out two or three times over the ten days. The Nikon camera connection design is very secure so the cable connector has to be really off to not stay in place. The cable connection to the GPS sticks out about 3/4 inch and is also very loose and sloppy. It falls out all the time. I can't tell if the connection is loose or the connector (inside the GPS) is loose, but it wiggles a lot and falls out a lot. The cable is so loose I actually had the entire cable (both connectors at the same time!) fall out and almost lost the cable. In the end (day 9 of a 10 day trip) the whole thing quit working. I would send it back but I suppose it could be argued that I got my $40 worth out of it.

Compact and easy to carry when stored or in use

The GPS function worked well with my camera. It typically provided location information to the camera within 15-30 seconds of coming on. The unit provides a small flashing green light when first turned on which then changes to a steady green light once the unit has determined the location. It was simpler to use than the corresponding camera's phone-based geolocation app (which never seems to work for me.)The units compact size makes it easy to carry whether or not it is attached to the camera. I'm using an aftermarket eye cup for camera and needed to remove the eye cup when attaching or removing the unit from the hot shoe. I'm still trying to figure out a good way to carry the unit on the camera strap rather than the hot shoe to avoid this. But overall I think this is a great little unit. The reason for the four stars rather than five is due to the cable from the unit to the camera. It plugs straight into the camera which results in the cable sticking out slightly. It would have been nicer if the N3 cable had a 90-degree connector to give it a lower profile. I was using the camera in outdoor in remote outdoor settings and the cable never did catch on anything or cause problems, but snagging was a minor concern.Other reviewers have commented on the altitude accuracy, but the altitude seemed roughly in the ballpark, although my use is more strongly oriented towards latitude and longitude rather than altitude.

Excellent

I find delight in this type of photographic gadget. The size makes it easy to handle. It is useful when you take photographs in un-signposted or remote areas. A little awkward to use but not terribly so. It looks good and does its job. When I use it, it has good connectivity and accuracy. So, perfect.

Not The Most Durable But Works

It worked on a two week trip but broke on the last day. I might buy another one if we take another big trip because it was not expensive
