Dandies Vegan Marshmallow, 10 Ounce (Pack of 12)

Taste great! We made rice crispy treats with them. The kids love them! Great alternative to regular marshmallows.

For a long time, I called myself vegetarian but was totally in denial about the origin of gelatin. "No way," I thought, "That can't be right." Finally, I pulled my head out of the sand and stopped buying products with gelatin in them. This was no major hardship, but I found I REALLY missed marshmallows (in cocoa, in crisped rice treats, in s'mores, in eating-them-straight-from-the-bag...). I know that you can make your own marshmallows, but honestly, I'm doing well if I can muster the energy for a frozen pizza, so that wasn't happening. Also, the homemade marshmallows I've had before were SUPER puffy and airy and sorta melted in the mouth. That might be totally ideal for some people, but I prefer a denser, chewy marshmallow. Dandies vegan marshmallows are PERFECT for my tastes. They are denser than most commercial marshmallows -- you may be surprised at how heavy the bag is to hold -- but, upon biting into them, they are not of a markedly different texture. Someone had compared vegan marshmallows to a cross between a marshmallow and taffy, and I would not go that far. They're still well within the realm of 'fluffy', in my opinion. I'm writing this review having just eaten some straight from the bag the moment I got the box, so I haven't used them in any recipes yet. I was expecting a "WHAM! VANILLA!" taste, which I didn't really get. They're actually pretty close in flavor to most conventional marshmallows, although they have a bit of a molasses-y flavor to me. I find them to be absolutely delicious. I bought the huge box based on so many other positive reviews, and I'm totally glad I did. My marshmallow withdrawal went on too long, and I'm excited enough about having these that I might actually do some baking.

Our vet specialist told us about these vegan marshmallows. It is one of the few things we can give our dog as a treat because we’re trying to figure out what he is allergic to. They are good pill poppers! Our dog won’t take pills with usual methods.

Love these! We buy them by the case for our vegetarian family to roast marshmallows in the yard all summer long. They taste wonderful, even marshmallow traditionalists really like them, and they don't leave you feeling bad if you have several. We also love that they're not full of icky stuff so, as dessert goes, we're happy to feed these to the kids. They roast really well - they puff up, brown nicely, and can even be eaten in layers if you like roasting the same marshmallow a bunch of times. Why aren't all marshmallows like this? The only problem is how fast they go!

(Full disclosure: although I do eat quite a bit of vegan food, as I eat neither dairy nor eggs, I'm not vegan.) These were the only option for marshmallows at my local natural food store, so I bought them....which was a mistake. They are essentially flavorless and the worst marshmallow I've ever had. (I've had basically everything, from gourmet marshmallows and soft meringue to Jet-Puffed and Marshmallow Fluff.) I love marshmallows and found these to be disappointing at best. Terrible alone and barely passable in a s'more. Hard pass.
