MLB Catcher's Thumb Guard - Black, Large/X-Large

We installed this thumb guard inside my son's catcher's mitt permanently. It works well, and my son says it feels like it is doing a good job of protecting his thumb. I found that after I boiled it and molded it to his thumb (and the inside of his mitt) that it has held its shape well (it has been installed there for over a year now). My son is in high school and regularly receives pitches, as catcher, in excess of 90 mph (to give you an idea of the environment it is used in). We are going to get him a new backup mitt here shortly, and I am likely to buy another one of these for that mitt.

I bought one, formed it TIGHT around my thumb... too tight. Bought another, not quite as tight, works better. Actually is perfect! I wish I used this years ago.

Was a gift for my son’s friend. He said he liked it. Fit fine and helped him with his catching.

I am a dad catching a 19y freshman college pitcher, fastball speeds 80+. Any ball caught in the mitt with a glancing blow on the inside/outer edge of the thumb were destroying my thumb by wrenching it/bending it back in the glove (even though I have a brand new catcher's mitt). As my son's velocity has climbed I was convinced it was a matter of time before something bad happened to my thumb. This product ~stopped~ the problem. I just ordered another one two days ago. I lent mine to a kid catching my son, not sure if I will get it back! Update: 1/30/24 - My son is still going strong, hoping to go pro. Speeds are in the high 80's low 90's. I won't catch anything from him unless I have this in my mitt. Saved me from serious thumb damage many times.

This thumb guard is useless. We molded it as instructed for my 14 year old son as instructed, and he can't even get his thumb in the catcher's mitt without it digging into the back of his hand. Causes a lot of pain and discomfort. Don't waste your money like we did.

Got this for my kid, a first gear catcher who is assigned to catch some serious heat from older kids. He says he doesn’t really feel the impact of the ball when wearing this guard. He would recommend it to any other catcher. We molded it initially according to the instructions (air hardening) then remolded it by dropping it in super hot (just shy of boiling) water for a few seconds. Worked a treat.

My son plays catcher on his baseball team, and he's hypermobile. This clever little brace helps prevent his thumb from being forced back too far while he's catching. I think we'll probably buy this again.

Was simple to mold and works exactly as it should. Feel almost no pain in thumb that would almost always be sore. Also helps with holding on to catches that might have hit thumb and dropped before
