Has a glass face, which is quite well protected. I would suggest you would have to be very unlucky for this to get broken. Nice bit of kit. Would recommend. **Q: Could this be engraved?** A: Yes but will show the base metal **Q: Can you remove the compass easily?** A: Compass is on its own chain covered by a brass “lid”. Press a button. Lid pops up, revealing compass face. The whole unit fits in a leather pouch with press stud cover.
