A Comprehensive Review from a Skeptical Buyer

*by S***S on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 11, 2014*

This review is for the adapters and my experience using them with one specific model of ear bud (Sennheiser OCX-658i).A Brief History (Skip reading this if you don't care about why I tried these):I have been running for about a year and I typically don't listen to music while running with others outside. I started going to the gym and running on the treadmills and I have found that music is critical to keep me going during my workout. The first thing I tried was the obvious Apple ear buds that came with my iPhone 5. Just so you understand my ears, these things barely stay in while I'm walking. Focusing on trying to keep them in was taking away from my run so I quickly bought a cheap pair of Sony ear buds that had those silicone ends that you can switch the size. This worked "better". The problem with them is if the seal around the ear canal loosens then all bass response is lost as well. As a result, I developed a habit of pushing them back in every 30 seconds or so. Unacceptable. I was given a pair of Sennheiser OCX-658i for my birthday. They are definitely more expensive and the sound sure justifies that. They also wrap around your ear so they can't fall out. That's all fine and good but they still suffered the same problem where the seal would break and they'd just be dangling on my ear (almost making them less effective than the basic Sony pair). At my whit's end, I decided to give the Decibullz BZ200 a try.Molding:The directions to heat and mold the adapters are very specific, down to how many seconds you microwave and let sit to cool. When they are cool enough to place on your ear buds they are still quite pliable. Clipping them on is really no problem. The Sennheiser buds are a little angled (More egg shaped instead of spherical) where the silicone would clip on and this caused them to not quite fit all the way into the rubber gasket inside the pliable material of the adapters. With a little force, they did go in but I probably left more fingerprints in the adapters than would normally be the case. Placing them in the ear was a breeze. I was easily able to get a good seal on my ear and everything sounded great while they hardened. In the end it does look like you're using gum to hold your ear buds in but that's really not the weirdest thing I've seen at the gym.In Action:These suckers stay in place. And that's really what it's all about isn't it? It takes a little finesse to get them in place but they aren't going anywhere once they're in. I do not need to adjust them at all during a 60 minute run. The actual silicone of my ear buds still slips out from time to time but only slightly. No longer are they just dangling on my ears. I forget they're really in there a little into my run and I am able to focus on the workout.Sound:The Sennheiser ear buds have fantastic sound. This is barely compromised by the adapters. Bass response is good and I don't need to crank the volume just to hear it. I do find the silicone slips while running and though the adapters hold my ear buds in place I do lose some bass response. This results in a loss of subtle bass lines (a compromise I am more than willing to make if it means I can run without worrying about them falling out). Everything still sounds good. If you listen to dance or club music, you probably won't lose enough bass response to bother you. If you listen to more delicate music, which might not be suitable for running anyway (But hey, you're your own person), it might bother you a little to lose that bit of bass. The volume remains good and the buds don't get tinny.Final Thoughts:For those of us who are struggling just to get out there and focus on a good exercise anyway, why make it more of a chore by constantly fiddling with your ears? These definitely have solved the problem for me. The slight loss in audio quality is nowhere near as bad as having to adjust my ear buds constantly AND still having that loss of bass and added tin mania. After all, the goal is to have a good, uninterrupted workout. If I want absolute audio quality, I'll listen to a record at home. Portable music is compressed so much anyway the goal really isn't supreme quality but convenience and portability. The added slight audio compromise is well worth being able to run and let the music be my background and not my primary focus.

Waste for me personally, even though they work perfectly.

*by P***F on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 9, 2015*

I emailed the Decibullz team asking for the model that would fit my AmazonBasics Sports in-ears & was recommended the BZ100 (with a caveat that it hasn't been tested on this set). Turns out they don't fit.So I tried them on a set I use in the office. It took three attempts before I got a good ear seal. This process needs patience. The instruction video could use a few close-ups or animations to make things less 'trial and error'.Definitely listen to music while you fit them in! On the first attempt, a bit of the adapter gummed up over the speaker & I didn't realise this until I removed the earphones after leaving them in to set. Took me two more tries.I find that the adapters do a half-decent job of reducing distracting sounds like office chatter and faxes & printers. Did I need to spend 12 dollars when the tips that come with the earphones already do this? Nope.A couple of stars docked because it's kind of a waste of money for me, but Decibullz shouldn't take too much of flak for that. The product works EXACTLY the way it should.

Even works with Shure if you're willing to invest time into multiple remolding cycles until you get it right. ;-)

*by A***E on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on February 5, 2016*

I purchased these in the knowledge that my Shure SE215 wasn't officially supported. But, looking at some of the holding videos it looked like you could basically told it the way you want. So, I decided to take the dive and give it a try with my Shures, knowing I will probably have to do some major remolding until I get it right. And since these can be reheated and remolded I had hopes.Well, it finally worked out although it took multiple tries. It doesn't look pretty, but it does the job. Basically to get it to work with Shures, you have to take out the plastic inlay and after heating the mold roll it into a ball and reheat (so you get some more time at molding). After heating the "ball", press it somewhat flat and form a small loop (hole) where the Shure nozzle will go through. Now reheat again (it cools down very fast, so after this step you won't have enough flexibility to mold it to your headphone and in your ear). Now pull out your flattened prepared mold and put the Shure nozzle through the hole you created and form the rest on the back of your earphone and quickly push it in your ear to mold the rest to your ear. Your should leave the cable on your earphone so you don't mold it at the wrong angle. Now wait until it hardens and pull it out. At this point you will want to do some fine tuning to the mold (especially if it has stuck to your cable fixture). You can do this by heating small areas with a hair dryer and use your fingers or a metal tipped tool (for those small areas you can't get a finger in) to form things the way you want. You can only do this to the front facing portions, since the back side has been custom molded to your ear.Now I tried multiple versions of molding. Even tried replacing the standard tips with the mold. But, the Decibulz mold is really hard plastic when it hardens. So, it's not ideal deal in your ear. That's why I stuck with the version of molding where you still use the original headphone tips. The only reason I take off one star is because these are not isolating at all, because of the very hard nature and the marketing gives the impression these could be an option to those real custom molded earphones. This is definitely not the case. It's also another reason I decided to stick with the original headphone tips option, because they give me pretty good isolation. But, they do keep your earphones in position as stated in most videos. If you are like me, even those Shures will wiggle around enough so your constantly pushing them in. That's not necessary with the Decibulz on them. They stay in place. Which is why I like them and will keep them for a while.
