Fast Fit: Easy Pattern Alterations for Every Figure

This is the second book I purchased in this category. Its well written & has lots of great instructions! Great addition to my library!

First, I must say the quality of paper this book is printed on is wonderful. I ordered the paperback and it will surely hold up as a most useful reference book must. I have been sewing for over 40 years, and this is the best tailoring book I have ever found. Sandra Betzina is not only a professional seamstress she is a pattern designer. This book is magnificent at helping you identify the fit problem you are having, and then gives you an expert step by step approach to correct your fitting issue. Fast Fit has lots of pictures, and is broken into easy bite sized pieces. It also explains why (and how) patterns are different than ready wear clothing. Even with my years of experience, this little book has leveled up my sewing skills in just a few weeks. Thank you Sandra for making a book that will give the next generation confidence in learning to sew clothes that fit.

The thing about books on fitting the garments you’re making is that it takes way too long to get anywhere. At least that has been my experience. But Sandra Betzina’s book isn’t like that. Look in the contents, scan for your issue and flip to the fix. The majority of the solutions are 1-3 pages long, including illustrations. If you read or skim through “Fitting Facts” (pg 6-71) first you will get guidelines to use before you start to alter. For example check the shoulder line before fixing a sleeve, because that might fix the sleeve fit without any further steps. The fitting solutions also begin by telling you what your garment looks like when it’s hanging and fitting wrong. Example- the wrinkles and twist you can see if you’re knock kneed and then how to fix that. I’ve also noticed that it can help you to see how ready made clothes should fit. Overall an amazing book for making clothes that fit you properly. I wish I bought it ages ago.

I love this book! I first got it out from the library and after reading some of the great fitting tips to help to fit a sewing pattern I was making, I just had to have a copy of this for myself! Despite being a tad dated in terms of the fashions, apparel and overall "look" within the book, common fitting problems for most body types (from thin to thick and everything in between) are in here and the solutions are straightforward, explained well and clearly illustrated, and that never goes out of style. I highly recommend this book for any sewing enthusiasts library for a great, easy to read, fitting solution guide.

I have just bought this as a present for a friend because I already have a copy myself and have found it very useful. It diagnoses the causes of various fitting problems that arise when one's body does not match the proportions of commercial patterns and shows quick ways of altering patterns to avoid them.
