Good buy
Love the product. I am not allowed caffeine so this is perfect. I'm the only one in the house that uses it so well worth the price.

MMMMMM goood! But too many $$$ for too little Postum!
Postum tastes the same : comforting, mellow, the sweet malty savor that I remember. My mother loved this drink -- and I am re-loving it too. The delivery was quick , well-packed , and all good. Only complaint, 12.95 for a very small amount. If you make a mugful you need 2 teaspoons , so it's good for a cup a day for a month, approximately. Wish it came in a bigger jar, and for a bit less money. However, I will buy it again!

Almost!
I'm a Gen-Xer that somehow discovered the original Postum back in the 80's and started drinking it. None of my peers ever heard of it and thought I was weird when I espoused the virtues of this beverage back then :) I liked to have it at night when coffee or tea would be too stimulating, but when I still wanted a hot but not very sweet beverage similar to coffee in flavor and mouthfeel. I was pretty upset when Postum was discontinued but somehow managed to get by without it. So when I saw that another company bought the brand from Kraft and started making it again via the original recipe, I had to try it. This new Postum is not quite the same as the original however. When mixed with boiling water, it does darken to almost coffee-like color as the original. The flavor seems to lack the hint of bitterness that the original had. Also, it has a lighter, slightly sweeter flavor. And there are more undissolved little bits of cereal grain that float to the top even after a vigorous stir. It also has a more pronounced molasses note and less of grain. I'm thinking if the recipe was changed slightly to roast the grains about 10-20% more time and if a tad less molasses and maltodextrin were added to the final product it would taste exactly the same. Anyway, I do like this version of Postum and would probably drink it regularly again if not for the high price! If the 8oz. jar were reduced to $5 or $6 I would be buying a new jar every month.

We like it, easy on digestive system
My dad laughed at me when he saw I bought Postum. He said we used that during WW2 when we couldn't get coffee. My wife has seizures and has to avoid coffee. And I have always been sensitive to caffeine. Even decaf coffee still contains some caffeine I can promise you, I can tell. This is a decent replacement for coffee. I really like coffee, but had to give it up. The taste is likeable and I put condensed canned milk in mine, no sugar. This is a good alternative for people who can't drink coffee. It's also easy on your stomach.

Waste of money!
This is not your childhood hot drink. It doesn't desolve completely in hot water. It leaves a circle of residue in the cup and everything you drink there is a trail of residue all the way up to the lip of the cup. If you use cream, whatever it is that doesn't desolve can be seen floating in the cup. I would imagine it could be strained through cheesecloth, but really?!!! It is far too expensive for the quality of the product. Dandy Blend is expensive, but a good substitute if you're not allergic to dandelions.

Sludge
I now look back at the reviews regarding dissolving properties and think, yes, that's accurate. I am sure I read the negatives before I bought it, but wanted to try it anyway. It leaves sludge at the bottom of the cup. Taste is personal, sludge is objective. I personally don't care for the molasses flavor (presumably what comprises part of the sludge), but my husband doesn't mind it. In the end, try it for yourself. You may like it, you may not, but you won't know until you try it, and it's not going to break the bank. If you like Cafix or Pero, as I do, I don't think this will be to your liking.

Treat yourself!
I treat myself to a jar each year to coincide with hunting season. Been doing this for years. Well, I had a hiatus until it became available again. Postum is Postum. It's the same as it used to be. In my case I have a strange Martian allergy to something in coffee, tea, cokes...and I'm just about sure it is not caffeine. Postum is the only alternate coffee beverage without coffee or chicory. It's just ground up overcooked Cheerios. Ha. It tastes GREAT! But it's not fake coffee. It is its own tasty thing. Here is a trick for you to remember. IF you heat in a pan, put the Postum in before you apply heat, and stir well. I use a spatula. If you start with hot water some of it will glump up and not dissolve even when hit with a hammer. Start with cold water and stir well and you'll be one happy Postum drinker for sure! Addendum - My directions above were for a time when Postum was still old Postum. Since, I believe they have made it *instant* Postum....so it really doesn't matter how you heat it...or spoon it into hot water. Out of curiosity I tried drinking my 2020 Postum treat straight. Tastes like mud-leaf-weak-swamp-water. HOWEVER....IF you apply two or three spoons of sugar and most importantly Half and Half you end up with something that tastes the world like delicious hot cocoa. If someone handed you a cup and you didn't know it you'd swear it was some kind of hot cocoa brand you hadn't had before. No kidding. Especially if you can't do coffee or chocolate you simply can not go wrong with Postum. Not a thing in there to mess with you.
