I did some research after purchasing a package of Fry Away and found out that it is a fancy name for a chemical (Stearic Acid). So I found out that Amazon sells this stuff at a much discounted price. It works pretty good (especially if you have a large amount of oil you want to emulsify before throwing out). I've always hated pouring oil into a can or bag for disposal (never down the sink) and this is a convenient and clean alternative. Unfortunately the shipping company was less than careful with my shipment and split the bag open during transit. Nothing on the company that I purchased this from, but the shipper should be a little more careful.

I was looking for a better way to dispose of used cooking oil from my deep fryer. I had about 1.4L of oil. I warmed it to about 250 degrees and added about 160 grams of stearic acid. I stirred it around until it was fully dissolved. I then let it cool overnight. It changed the liquid canola oil into a slush that I could put into a paper bag and then dispose of in my organic waste bin.

I don't fry often but when I do, getting rid of the oil is the part I hate the most; tbh, it sits on my stove for a few days while I try to find a way to get rid of it. This stuff is a GAME CHANGER. I use 1/4 cup and sprinkle it in my hot oil. Idk how long it takes to solidify (I leave it on the stovetop overnight) but in the morning, it's solid and I dump it in the trash. I was going to buy a different product that was way more expensive and after reading the comments, people all said to buy stearic acid in bulk. I'm glad I did! This is a must have in my kitchen now.
