Amazing thing here
I've never needed to use it yet, But I keep it on hand for an emergency or camping. It's pretty amazing how well this little thing works.

works good, well made
one or two strikes and the charred end of the rope is an ember suitable to start tinder or light a cigarette. Pulling back on the cord closes the cap and extinguishes the ember, preserving the char for the next light. great item for fire starting that never runs out of batteries or fuel (the cord will last for your lifetime most likely).

Good for novelty but not daily life
I like this product because it is interesting and functional, but I wouldn't recommend it as practical. There is just better stuff out there. It is a pretty specialized thing. I can get a fire going with this and imagine it would be great for cigarettes, but unless you're looking to have fun with it, it isn't very practical for what a match will do just fine. You COULD light a candle with it, but you'll burn a lot of rope and the smell irritates more people than it pleases. I have bought a few of these and love playing with them, but I still carry a modern windproof lighter if I need fire.

Easy to use
Very simple to use and works great but for a better result dip it gently in lighter fluid at the tip ! Works even better then

Neet! Works as advertized.
Probably only has an edge on cheap modern stuff in high winds or rain, but it's a neat, rugged little thing for cheap. Great conversation starter. Kinda stinks up a room. Might be great for pipes if you replace the rope with hemp rope, since it can get down in there and stays lit. I would take this over a fire piston any day.

This does not work well as a lighter, but does give you a consistent hot coal
I cannot get this to light anything after multiple tries. It does easily and consistently make a hot coal at the end of the rope every time despite the wind and I'm sure that has a lot of utility, but nothing beats a flame and I can't get this to light my tobacco, paper, or really about anything. If you can't light something with a coal, you're gonna have a hard time.
