Love it!
I have used this item for the last 2 years now over my backpacking adventures. The instructions to create a pulley system are great, and the instructions paper is thick and has not ripped or has really any damage so far. It’s quite fun to find some rocks to put in the pouch and give it a throw over the perfect tree branch. The bag is surprisingly durable for being so thin, and it’s a pretty decent size. Very happy with this purchase

Bear Bag, Rock Sock & Ropes
The Selkirk Bear Bag system served me well on a recent backpacking trip on the Pinhoti Trail. The two rope system worked like a charm and the whole package was light weight and small, making it ideal for backpacking. Kept my food dry and secure.

Grommets Pulling Out Of Bag
Update: They replaced the whole kit without issue so I increased my review to 4 stars. The grommets on the new rock bag seem more secure. I'll be putting it to use next weekend and will post if I have any new problems. This is a great system and a great price, but durability of the grommets on the rock bag is poor. I only used it for two nights and the grommets are already pulling out of the bag. Maybe I got a defective bag. Quality of the food bag, cords and carabiners seem good. I plan to contact the company for a replacement. I'll update the review depending on how that goes.

Useful for weekend trips only
1) Ripped second time using it with 9lbs in it, 3 days of food. Very full. 2) Did fine one first use with 2 days of food in it, a cup, and a spoon. 3) comes with extra rope and carabineer. Not necessary. 4) bag was light and at least mine had a obviously sealed seams. Would recommend only for those who intend on using it for short 2 days trips or less.

Really nice design - field tested thumbs up
If you're like me, when you look at what's included in this package you think "I could do that for $5". And that's true. But this was just the right amount of paracord and the little bag worked so well to hold some rocks and throw - I was really happy with the purchase. Took it into Glacier natnl park for a few nights and it hefted the enclosed bag plus two others - probably 15 pounds total - up up and away from the bears. The double-carabiner system was also really nice as a pulley set up and having some waterproof instructions was great vs. having to figure it out in the fading light as you try to get dinner ready. Efficient, packs small, does the job. I wish I could say that about all of my gear.

Worked great!!
Had a homemade setup but got this. If you are ultralight you might want to do your own thing but if you can have a few more ounces of weight to help with convenience this is a good buy. Used 5x now, nice setup but like I said nothing really magic about it, just packaged well.

My brain was going to do things way differently, but then a little booklet popped out and was like..."yo, we have a better way..." Super easy to use, holds a lot of weight. No problem with a 50 lbs cooler. I mean, you could do this on your own, but for this price, with the quality of the build, you're better picking this up.

I’m new to backpacking, so having all of the pieces for a food hang in one little package gave me piece of mind and made it really easy for my husband and I to hang our food safely while in the backcountry. We purchased some odour-proof bags for our food and stored them using this kit and had no issues with any critters getting to our food.

Very handy but used an Osprey dry bag to hang as this bag was a little small for my Bear Vault

Awesome little kit just wish the dry bag was a little bigger than 9L a 15L would have been awesome

Let's start with the biggest issue. The "drybag" shouldn't be labelled as such. It's thin and the seams aren't taped. It definitely can't handle submersion, but I don't think it could even hand a light-to-moderate rain. It's also way too small for the intended purpose, especially for a system that can hang 100lbs. I would have gladly paid an extra $20 for the same product but with a larger and more legitimate drybag. As others have pointed out, all of the components of this kit (2*paracord, 2*carabiners, 1*drybag, 1*pouch) are standard items that could be purchased separately. That said, the price of the components (assuming a better drybag) would come out about the same as this. And this is a convenient little kit. The instructions really are water- and tear-proof, though it would have been ideal if they were sewn into the pouch, which would also make them loss-proof. Some tips based on how I use this: - I've never had to fill the pouch with rocks or dirt. I find the weight of the second paracord+carabiner placed inside the pouch to be sufficient. I open the instructions in the middle and wrap them around the second (bundled) rope/paracord before stuffing it into the pouch, that keeps the instructions in there safely. Then I clip the second carabiner (which is attached to the second rope) to the carabiner which is clipped the pouch, to ensure the rope doesn't fall/fly out while throwing the pouch. - The instructions/specs seem to indicate that the ropes are the same length, but the green one was definitely longer than the orange one. The instructions say to use the green rope for the toss and to use the orange rope to create the pulley, but this should be ignored. Use the shorter rope for the toss and the longer rope for the pulley/hoist, since the 2-to-1 pulley mechanism means the pulley rope needs to travel twice as far. - Don't use the drybag that comes with this. Spend $20-40 on a larger, stronger, and more water/odor proof drybag. - Keep in mind that you can hoist multiple bags at once. If using on a group trip, no need to combines everybody's stuff into one bag, just clip them all on.
