Optimus 8" Turbo High Performance Air Circulator Fan, SMSLL, Black

I bought this fan because reviews said it's noisy, and I wanted something that would drown out my downstairs neighbor's music. If the fan could also vibrate a lot and irritate my neighbor as much as his music irritated me, all the better. Unfortunately, this little fan only produces a pleasant whoosh that's rather pleasant for falling asleep to. It does move a lot of air, even on low speed, so it's efficient at what it's meant to do. It's just no good for canceling out noise.

Our old fan gave up the ghost so I ordered this one as a replacement. We use it mainly as white noise for sleeping and it has suited our purposes well. We needed one that made a good bit of noise and it does, but it's not obnoxiously loud. It also puts out a decent amount of air-flow (augmenting our A/C) to keep us cool on hot and sticky southern nights. I gave it four stars because it's made a bit cheaply, but, for the price, it's what we expected.

Pros: pretty sturdy, and has stood up to several months of near continuous use over two summers.At high speed, the current is strong enough to make the room airy, even from as far as 4 feet away.Cons: a little bit noisy, would be nice if it could be bent downwards too.Has limited range of motion compared to other fans.The circuitry appears to be exposed at the top. I have kept it in a window to increase air circulation in the room, and it would stop working temporarily if run for more than a few hours. However, it would work again if switched on an hour or two after disconnecting it, so I am guessing there are heating issues.Conclusion: I would give it 3 stars because I would expect better for the price. But it is a solid choice.

very well built . my wife was always buying flimsy fans for me to use out in my mancave to circulate cool air to my pc under my wall to wall to wall wrap around desk . this time i ordered this and this is has to be 4x the thickness for the entire housing . on low it blows more than the others did on high and i cannot hear it .

The main problem that I had was that I understood the ad to say that the fan could be mounted to the wall. There is no place to do that unless you drill holes in the plastic stand. It has also become a little noisy with only a months use.

I love and hate this fan. I love it because it produces a white noise that is comparable to another white noise device I have in the room - creating a surround sound effect. I hate it because it makes the most annoying squeaking noise that only gets worse when you turn up the fan speed. If the other white noise machine didn't drown out the squeak I would have returned it. The fan definitely cools down a room and that is on low. On anything higher the room would be an ice box. On high - the fan does sound like a jet engine.
