Melissa & Doug Pirate Role Play Costume Dress-Up Set With Hat, Sword, and Eye Patch

We bought this for our son for Halloween 3 years ago. I like Halloween costumes that can be used for dress-up and avoid costumes that just don't really hold up beyond one day of trick or treating. This set did not disappoint! It is still in great shape after a TON of use. It fits my 7 year old and my 4 year old and they both love wearing it. It is easy for them to put on independently and the velcro is easy to close when they aren't wearing it so it doesn't fray any of the material. It's a nice thick material on the vest and the hat has held its shape even after it's been stepped on, shoved in bins and bags, and worn repeatedly. And somehow (miraculously) we haven't lost the eyepatch which is still in great shape and the sword is still in one piece (made of a thick foam). Would definitely buy again or would gift to someone else in the future!!

My daughter wanted a pirate party this year, and she loves to dress up, so I purchased this for her. She is 7 years old but quite small for her age. She weighs 42 pounds and is about 40 inches tall. The costume was big on her, even over her clothes. It wasn't HUGE, it was just big, which means older kids and larger kids can wear it comfortably. The costume is super simple - just a one-piece vest/jacket type shirt, no embellishments or anything to irritate kids. My only issue here was the cost. My nephew saw a picture of her and wanted the costume too, so I bought it for his birthday at a craft store nearby where it was about 1/2 the price. I was both pleased and disappointed when I found it there so cheap. Also, the coating (paint?) on the foam sword has rubbed off a bit, leaving it looking very used, even though she only played with it on twice. The eye patch is pretty impressive - it is soft and comfortable, made really well, not a cheap eyepatch like you buy at party stores. It is so nice and soft that it did not irritate her eye at all.

Simply put, this costume is awesome. It is very well made and sturdy and my daughter absolutely loves it. I would've expected nothing less from Melissa & Doug in terms of quality and they definitely delivered on this product. I bought it for her 4th birthday because (1) she likes Jake and the Neverland Pirates and (2) she's not into dolls or figurine play-sets. So, what is a mom to do? Um, buy a dress-up outfit, of course! =) Needless to say, she wore it all day long pretending to be a pirate, which made me one happy mom, and she continues to wear it at least 3-4 times a week.The sizing is great because it fits her now but has plenty of room for her to grow, too. Whether this is for Halloween or just every-day-dress-up, the price can't be beat. I also purchased the Melissa & Doug pirate chest to go with the outfit (it has a pirate chest, pirate flag, red pouch with "gold" doubloons and another eye patch). I would definitely recommend that product, as well. Together, these two purchases made all of my daughter's pirate dreams come true. Yay!

Absolutely adorable and fit my seven-year-old perfect! Would fit a smaller child as well. We added the hook hand and used a different eye patch because he wanted the red one both we got on Amazon. The eye patch it comes with is felt and he said it felt weird lol it was Velcro band to hold it on which is great but didn't stay or sit comfortable on the back of head. If I need to put a complaint it would be the sword holder is made of Velcro so it's not easy to take the sword in and out. The box it came in was obnoxiously large! wish Amazon would combine more in a box there was no need to get my whole order in 3 boxes and 2 bags when it all could have fit in this box. Worth the 23$!

This is a well-made costume and so much better than the junk you find in costume or drug stores. That having been said, when it arrived, the plastic packaging was stuck to the skull decal on the back and it lifted off when I tried to separate them. It was a hot day so I'm sure that was part of the problem. I called Melissa and Doug directly to advise them that they need a piece of tissue paper or cardboard in between the costume and the packaging. The customer service rep immediately sent out a new/replacement costume and had me send them a pic of the damage. Now that's what I call good customer service. I will definitely look for this brand again.

He loves them both and play for hours on end. He can easily take the jacket on and off on his own as it simply velcros down the front. The jacket also has pockets to hold his map and a loop to hold his sword. The hat fits great and it very high quality and comfortable. The jacket is also high quality and fits well! As I mentioned, my son is 3. He is currently in size 4 or 5T clothing and this jacket fits very well. I anticipate it fitting for a few years at least. It is made in a way that it will work on a very large variety of sizes. The sword is made of a heavy foam like material. It will not seriously hurt anyone, but if swung too hard, it may sting. My only complaint is the eye patch. The velcro on the tips of the band do not allow for too much adjustment and it keeps sliding off my son's head. He doesn't wear it at all now. All in all, this is a fantastic purchase and I would definitely recommend it!
