Chips, chips, chips
I'm new to stovetop smoking. I saw a smoker in action on the Food Network, and had to try it out. I had a great time experimenting with the two types of wood that came with the smoker and was very quickly ready to try other woods. After searching locally, I turned to Amazon, where I bought the smoker, to find more chips. This set is a gold mine. I've read dozens of recipes since I got the smoker, and haven't yet found one that calls for a wood that isn't in the set. There's a pint of each kind, and you only need a tablespoon or so of chips for each batch of food, so even if I were to smoke something every day, I'd be set for a long time. The main reason I bought the smoker was to make ancho and chipotle chiles. I grow hot peppers for fun, just to see what the different kinds are like, and had plenty of poblanos and jalapenos to play with. I made the first batch of each using alder, which was included with the smoker. After smoking them, I put them in the dehydrator. Not only did the kitchen smell great, the finished product looked gorgeous and tasted wonderful. Since then I've done habaneros and serranos with alder as well. I'll pick more peppers today and use the pecan chips. Can't wait to compare the flavors. In addition to peppers, I've also smoked pork chops (hickory) and chicken breasts (applewood). Delicious! We eat meat with very little fat, and the smoker keeps most of the moisture inside so the meat doesn't dry out as it can on the grill. Now that I have bourbon-soaked oak chips, I expect we'll be having ribs before too long. This product is a great value for the money. Highly recommended. (If you don't have a stovetop smoker but are reading this review anyhow, get a smoker. They aren't expensive and they're incredibly easy to use. I recommend the Cameron's brand, but there are others on Amazon -- check it out.)

Excellent Selection but Missing Alder
I got a new smoker gun and smoker cabinet for Christmas (for smoking cocktails and appetizers,to name two); the set only came with a small bag of hickory and I wanted to have as complete a set of flavors/smoke as possible so I bought this set. First off, you get EIGHT different one pint containers of wood shavings that are the PERFECT size for smoke guns/flavor infusers. I did put a fine mesh screen in my smoking gun to ensure the really fine shavings don't go through. The shaving light immediately and a small amount produces a lot of smoke quickly. The smoke the each wood produces is wonderful, with some producing a strong scent and others a more delicate one. I have used them to smoke cocktails (like an Old Fashioned) and even sliced cheese (which came out wonderfully, after I gave it overnight in the fridge to 'settle down'). The pint containers will last a LOOOONG time for me, as I am using a pinch at a time, but even if you use more they will last a while. The only disappointment was there was no Alder, so I ordered that separate. Great set and worth the money.

Best Mesquite Smoked Chicken Ever ...Awesome Chips !!
I purchased this smoking chips set for my new stove top smoker. I see some other reviewers claiming disappointment at the Sawdust/fine texture of this smoking wood. In their defense; if you are using a stove top smoker; this is the texture you want. They burn slowly and evenly and produce the BEST smokey flavor you can imagine. It is like food from an outdoor smoker after it has been cooking all day. This does in a few hours what it takes all day outdoors. If you are looking for chips for a larger smoker these are not the ones you would want; they are simply too fine and would burn up to quickly. These can last several hours in my stove top smoker and infuse the meat with a wonderful smokey flavor. You only need 1-2 tablespoons.. so each container lasts for many smokings. I can’t wait to try them all. I made Mesquite smoked whole roast chicken and it was fantastic, so moist, wonderfully smokey and I didn’t end up with a smokey kitchen either. I would highly recommend these chips and in the interest of full disclosure NO ONE GAVE ME THIS ITEM FREE, OR AN INCENTIVE FOR MY HONEST REVIEW.

Small chips to be used in a smoker box but a nice assortment in good size containers
The containers do not show how much wood chip is inside either by volume or weight; but the containers were a good size and larger than expected. Since the directions say to use just 1 to 1 1/2 tablespoons, we will get a number of "tries" for each of the 8 types of wood. We like the variety and which woods were included, and this is a very nice "sample" pack to determine which our favorite woods will be. Directions for use were included. Some people complained that the "chips" were closer to dust. True, they are all very small pieces, but not exactly dust; and the different woods were slightly different shapes and sizes. They would be fine for use in a smoker box, but too small to be put right onto the grill. They are not supposed to be soaked, so a smoker box is a necessity, and the small size allows them to start smoking fairly quickly. They will be fine for adding some smoke flavor to items cooked on a gas grill or rotisserie, and when using a smoker box, it would be easy enough to add more chips if needed for a longer cook. The chips are very dry, and when opening the containers, we did not notice any "fresh" wood smell. These arrived in January, and since we live in a winter state, we won't be able to use them on our outdoor grill until spring. We are looking forward to seeing how much aroma and smoke flavor these actually add to the meat when we grill or rotisserie on our gas grill.

This is nice size tiny chips and shavings of different wood species in its own small containers. The flavours from each one of them amazing! This is exactly what I was looking for for my Pro-Q Cold smoker. I would prefer a bigger containers for the price though, that's why I gave only 4 stars for it.

Exactly as ordered. The only issue was the quantity of wood chips, There was too much for my needs. My problem, not theirs. If you do a lot of smoking, this will meet all your needs I'm sure.

I don't know why but this is the first option thay comes up, when you search for wood pellets. I just accidentally bought this not realizing it was chips. The product smells fantastic though I can't knock that, this is simply due to Amazon's search engine. I don't need to return em. But I still need to get pellets. I'm just not getting on Amazon this time

Originally purchased for use in a smoker (pellet style) as a gift. However, this product's intended use is for electric pan smokers, as it is various sizes of actual wood chips. Based on the historical use of electric smokers, the variety of flavors is very impressive and the quantity of each wood type is substantial enough to infuse multiple sittings. Good purchase for both the avid or the beginner BBQ smoker.
