Worked great
I teach technical classes at a community college and another instructor had a lamp with a dimmer that had failed. I ordered this and had a student install it. Good experience for student and lamp works great. Nice item, easy to install. Win-Win.

Worked as expected

Prefer the switch in a different location
For what I used them for, the preset location of the dimmer switch was in the wrong location. The product is good and they work. Shipping was timely.

Works well but could include an outlet
The dimmer worked as advertised on a bulb we purchased to try to save our lava lamp. The dimmer controlled the voltage to the lamp with a very steady voltage. I was able to fine tune the voltage with little effort. If it came with a separate outlet that could be attached after cutting the cord to the desired length, I would give it 5 stars.

A great choice for in-line dimming.
I don't know why more lamps and devices don't come with an in-line slider or dial — glad to find this replacement! I took apart two lamps, spliced the cord in, and it works like a charm. Because my lamps in particular didn't disassemble down to the terminals, I used some heat-shrink tubing at the point of wires connecting. I didn't solder, but that's also an option if you worry about the lines coming apart. Two things to know: 1. The cord length is short. You basically have to have your lamp right next to an outline. And since you can't move the dimmer box up and down on the cable, it may end up in an awkward position. 2. As others have noted, the rotation isn't purely linear. Basically the first 50% of rotation has no effect, leaving all the dimming action into a relatively small range of motion. Still, it's much less bulky than the plug-in dimmers which introduce an extra 6 feet of cord all jumped in the same place.

one started to fail after 2.5 years
the other two are still working fine, so possibly just a bad one out of the three

Fine foot switch for a floor lamp
We have a floor lamp that curves over a piano and the switch is in a hard-to-reach place. I added one of these foot switches inline with the existing power cord and it works fine. Others have noted that the leads from the wire are just inserted into the switch unit, which is true. My lamp cord is stranded wire instead of solid wire, so I just twirled the strands with my fingers until they were stiff enough to be inserted into the switch. If that hadn't worked I would have just added a dab of solder to them. Once assembled the cord is not going to come out of the housing because there is pressure from internal parts of the housing that prevents the cord from moving. All in all, this is a good value.
