Before they were brothers, they were babies...
You know, now that I really think about it, I really do believe this was my first ever Mario game I owned. I had it once a long long time ago for the Game Boy Advance, and I loved it so. I eventually lost it, and recently decided I just had to buy it again to relive the classic prequel to the Super Mario Brothers classic tale/game. You will not be disappointed, however my two complaints would be as follows; 1 - To short. While the game boasts the usual 8 stages with several levels per stage, as well as bonus stages and extra content, it still feels like it isn't enough of this world to play and explore in! Luckily this was corrected by creating sequels to this particular prequel, creating it's own little series in the Mario overworld. 2 - Slightly easy. Let's face it, most Mario 2D side scrolling games don't get all that complicated for the most part. Coming in to play with my first reason, it is fairly easy to sweep through the game and get to the end. But you know what, that's the fun part! Because this is a classic and a must own for any Mario fan in my opinion. The story, for one, is excellent; Diving deep into the lore of the Mushroom Kingdom, we see our two heroes as babies being carried by the stork in little white bundles heading towards their parents house. Suddenly, Kamek the Magikoopa swoops down and kidnaps baby Luigi and the stork, while sending Mario plummeting to the ocean below. However, he lands instead on a mysterious island inhabited by Yoshi's, and when Mario lands on one of their backs with a map leading to baby Bowser's castle, the Yoshi's decide to embark on a quest to reunite the twins and defeat the Koopas... For the 'very first time!' I won't give anymore away, but the game play is excellent and pretty easy to get down while setting a unique difference between other installments in the series while retaining the same game play we know and love... Think of it like playing Super Mario World, but always riding Yoshi's with even more powers. Yeah, it's that cool. 9/10

One of the greatest platformers of all time
1995 seemed to be a great year for a gamer. The Donkey Kong Country series went portable with DK Land, Rayman was a surprise full of perfection, and Vectorman appealed to Sega Genesis players with its colorful pre-rendered graphics that DKC had done. All of these games were great, but Yoshi's Island was the best of all. While Rayman would have been my favorite game of all time, it suffered from the most extreme difficulty EVER. Yoshi's Island has amazing graphics, catchy sound/music, awesome gameplay, AND forgiving difficulty alike. This is not the average Mario game, but rather is it what fans would call a Yoshi game, since it plays a lot differently. As Yoshi, you romp through levels like usual, but now you can throw eggs at enemies, as well as eat enemies to make eggs. There is also a huge variety of obstacles, like boulders, loads of unique platforms, collectible flowers, the enemies doing all kinds of stuff, etc, etc. But the thing is: It is all well-crafted and carefully put together for one of the ultimate platforming experiences. Don't believe me? Go on some video websites and watch some gameplay footage. One look and you'll agree that it looks beyond terrific. There are also some bonuses in the game to help you on your quest to defeat the evil Bowser Jr. For example, there are small houses that you may possibly find in a level (It requires a key, though). Once you are able to enter in, you must compete with an enemy in a certain challenge (Collect most coins, Pop most balloons, etc). There's also bonus challenges when the goal chooses a flower you had collected (In a roulette-like way). Overall, it's definitely one of the greatest platformers I have ever played. I may prefer Super Mario World as the best of all, but this game certainly comes close to winning that title. Oh, yeah. The GBA remake of Mario Bros contained in this cartridge rocks, too.

Yoshi's Island, an understated gem.
Before I ordered this game, I had heard good things, though it was not nearly as publicized as other Mario games. I figured it might not be as good as other Mario games since it was less famous, but it might at least be worth a shot. Wow! This game was amazing. I would go so far as to say that it is one of the best platformers of all time. I still view other platformers, notably the Donkey Kong Country series, with a bit more reverence, but this largely has to do with the fact that I played them during my oh-so-impressionable childhood. First off, this game is long. There are six worlds with 8 levels each. That's quite a bit of playtime. I powered through in about 3 days, but that's mainly because i couldn't put it down. Levels can be rather non-linear was well; sometimes you can be searching an area a long time trying to find a key to a door or a way to get to the exit. Also, there are so many things yoshi can do that it is just so fun to play around with. He can jump on enemies, swallow them, turn them into eggs and shoot them, crush them with a boulder, and the list goes on. I lastly want to commend the style and graphics of this game. The story-book look is cute and charming. The way everything moves and interacts with the environment, it all just fits together so well. This game is 9 years old now, 16 if you go back to its SNES release, but it still holds up as an amazing games even by today's standards. If for any reason you have a GBA and are still looking for any good games, do yourself a favor and BUY THIS!

This game is so much fun! I used to play Yoshi's Island on the SNES and was heartbroken when our console stopped working, so when I discovered that the title had been remade for the GBA, I was overjoyed. It's a faithful remake that doesn't change any of the original content -- the music is just as delightful as I remember and the buttons are perfect. If you enjoy platform games, I highly recommend this title.

Game works as it should. Fast shipping. Didn’t come with the box. I can’t see anything in the description about a box not being included. Package dimensions in the description measure out to a box size.
