Awesome!

I was concerned about the size of this when I purchased it, but it's perfect. I use it to time cold showers and have it mounted above and to the right of the shower head. It gets splashed and wet, but not soaked. In the dim light of the shower it's a little difficult to read, but it has a button which back lights it for a few seconds. The only con was the magnet on the back of it which I didn't need, or use anyway. It wasn't strong enough to hold your grandmother's handkerchief much less this thing. I used heavy duty double sided tape from Home Depot to attach it to the tile. The kind used for equipment, or pictures. It's been working fine for 3 months...Love it!I know, cold showers??? Don't knock it unless you've tried it. I don't mean 20 seconds after a 15 minute hot shower. I mean at least 5 to 10 minutes full on cold. Drink all the coffee, Red Bull, and Monster you want, but it doesn't come close to a long cold shower.

Loud and Clear

My usual inexpensive kitchen timer is now too high-pitched and too soft for me to hear it clearly in other rooms. The Splash 'n' Drop has solved that problem. Its three volume settings and its loud, clear tone are just what I was looking for. It's also lower-pitched than a standard kitchen timer and beeps until it's stopped, so it can't be missed or ignored. (In case this matters, the pulsating tone sounds a bit like a home fire alarm.) It has a clock setting and also a back-light button that illuminates the dial for 4 seconds in case the numbers seems dark. But I find its half-inch high numbers very readable. The control button are easy to understand and navigate. The 2 small magnets on its back hold it securely on my refrigerator but it also has a sturdy "kick stand" if you want to use it on a counter top. One minor inconvenience: you need a small Phillips-head screwdriver to undo the four screws that open the battery compartment.) The first Splash 'n' Drop I received had a defective back-light. I sent it back and a had a perfectly working replacement in 2 days with no hassle.

Waterproof and fall-resistant

I bought one of these at a kitchen store probably 15 years ago, maybe more. I've kept it on a shelf in the shower time myself in the shower. I never used it as an alarm. It finally died and I was happy to see it was still available, so I bought a replacement. The reason for 4 stars is that over time it started to run slightly fast. That didn't bother me because I could still see about how long I was in the shower.

It's loud and exactly what we needed.

The timer is perfect for my husband to use for a treatment shampoo that he has to time and use. The others that we have had have been difficult to hear with the earplugs that he wears in the shower. This one is LOUD.

"Quality Control", a.k.a. controlling how much (or little) quality goes into your product

We bought one of these to use in the shower to keep the kids' hot water usage down. It arrived yesterday, and it's going straight back.At first glance, this does seem reasonably well-made. The plastic case seems fairly sturdy, and has a removable rubber bumper around the outside to cushion drops, etc. That said, the clear plastic face in front of the LCD display is laughably thin and bends a lot when touched. The volume control on the alarm seems like a nice touch, but realistically the lowest two settings are too quiet to be of much use anywhere but in a library. That may be the intent, I have no idea. The real joke comes when the timer is flipped over and the battery door is examined. As others have mentioned, it is held on by 4 teeny screws that are self-tapping and burrow into the plastic housing of the unit. Even if it weren't pretty much guaranteed that they'd get stripped at some point, out of the factory these appear to come over-tightened to guarantee it; three of the four on our unit had already been ruined to the point where the screws don't even come out when turned. When I did finally get them out, each of them had a nice, snug blanket of plastic from the timer's housing, and each of them can be pushed all the way back in with a finger. That said, I'm not so sure about the fourth screw, because that appears to be an optional extra on the one that we received. Perhaps recent product revisions have meant that the battery door is considered completely watertight with screws on three corners, and the fourth is considered redundant.Seriously, the design's waterproof integrity is entirely based around on being able to compress the rubber seal that the screws clamp the battery door down on. That means you need to be able to tighten them up by some reasonable amount, and that's just not possible; the factory couldn't even get it right.Even if all of the screws were there, I'm also less than enthused about the wisdom of putting the magnets on the battery door rather than being part of the timer's main housing. That also seems like a great way to flex the thin battery door and let water in.This thing is fundamentally flawed; they took a bad design and made it as cheaply as possible, and the result is unusable.
