Jumbie Jam Authentic Steel Drum Steel Finish with Tube Floor Stand

This drum is pretty awesome...I'm really happy with our purchase. The sound is excellent. I've not tested it with a chromatic tuner, but to someone with a pretty solid musical ear, the full octave is pretty spot-on, and popular melodies sound great on this. (It is worth noting that the pan is not merely "cast" and put in a box. It's obvious that the pan was professionally tuned...you can see small hammer strike dents and indentations on it, which is really neat. The note areas appear to be drawn on with marker instead of pre-stamped...which is also a GOOD thing...they wanted there to be some leeway so that the final product would have the correct notes and sound good, instead of assuming that the "D" note, for example, would end up centered at a specific spot.) The book that came with ours (the reddish "Island Tunes" version) is really useful and fun. I also purchased the "Reggae" version, which contains some popular and instantly recognizable songs that sound GREAT on the Jumbie Jam. The base is OK but not overly sturdy. This absolutely could be knocked over by a dog or a child, so a degree of care is advisable so that you don't knock the pan out of tune. It's really neat, though, the way the whole thing tears down and packs up neatly in the carry box...this is going with us to the beach for sure. The adjustable height is nice for either an adult or a child. The included mallets aren't as fancy as some online, but they work well...and I like that both ends are rubber-tipped so that our kids don't accidentally damage the pan with a wooden end. If you're looking for something fun/festive...something different...something to jazz up your acoustic "Jimmy Buffett" type campfire music...this is a great option. While only 1 octave, you can play a LOT of recognizable and fun melodies on this. I highly recommend...we've already gotten a lot more enjoyment and quality time out of this than many other $200 purchases.

Bought for husband & I, just for fun. Left at up on dining table to use anytime we want to. Super easy set up! Both of us can play a few simple songs. Sounds pretty (one of the notes is difficult to get clear 😞, but that's just me)

The drum is fine/fun to have and make a lot of noise. However, the stand is very slight and I have not been able to replace it or fix it since its been broken. I gave it a 4 because I haven't been able to replace the stand.

My grandfather is retired, but loves to play his guitar and bongos. He mentioned that he would love to have a steel drum and when I found this on Amazon, I was so excited to get him one. Granted, I picked this one because the price and the fact that it came with stands that adjusted. I've never seen my grandfather's eyes light up as much as they did and he was so excited for it that he literally pulled it out of the box and started playing some of the notes. I did like that it came with some example songs too to try. Not only did he love it, but my daughter as well and he could adjust it to her height, whenever she wanted to try it out. Well worth the money!

From the photo, I thought this was going to be painted dull gray and it is shiny steel. So beautiful. But even better, I do not know how to play an instrument but I was able to play the included short songs within a few minutes. It has only been here about 15 hours and is already making all of us happy. The sound is beautiful. I am a mom and had no trouble putting the stand together. I highly recommend this nice instrument! The sound is great and it is super easy to learn how to play. My 12 year old was playing songs within minutes. The stand is plastic, not metal. It is sturdy enough, but we will probably eventually make a metal stand. Overall, fantastic product!

Some notes sound dead. For the most part it sounds good and is fun for all ages but the F# and the upper g are very dead sounding. I returned the first one I ordered thinking it was defective but the replacement is the same way. Still fun to play.

I purchased this for my husband on father's day. He loves musical instruments and he's been playing it ever since. He's getting pretty good at it.

Para iniciarse en el mundo de los Steel Drum esta bastante bien a este precio dada la complejidad y rareza del mismo, se fabrica es USA, al menos eso pone, las notas estan afinadas, no le doy las 5 estrellas porque dio la sensación que ya habia sido probado por las marcas del metal en la parte donde estan algunas notas, quizas fuer el motivo del bajo precio, pero he decidido quedármelo, a toda la familia y amigos le ha encantado.

was able to do this after an hour with the small pamphlet that came, and I've never played precuchion in my life! Still tricky but sounds great, my baby 10 weeks old sleeps straight through it!
