When the wall bracket is removed does this let the tension off the roller?

You need to keep one side bracket fastened tight whilst the opposing side bracket is released to fit the lifter. If you undo both sides the tension in the spring will be released. Unfortunately due to space constraints I had to undo both sides in order to slip the motor over the shaft, and then re-tension the spring.

Is the circular black part that holds the two prongs that moves the door plastic or metal?

I seem to remember it's a powder coated casting. Have used for 12 faultless months, with no fracture or drive problems
