I really like this set for my 9 yr old. It doesn't look as flashy with silly hardware you don't need. Buy your own glass down the road. This has a book that's very well done with descriptions and steps a kid can follow. I would definitely consider the next level version after this.

My kids have a blast with this. Highly recommend having adult supervision. But their imagination and creativity was activated!! Highly recommend

This kit is far more educational and fun then many of the other intro to chemistry sets we've used. There are a lot more different types of chemicals and experiments, and many of the experiments to require you have things in your house but most of them truly are things you already have in your house. That said, the experiment instructions leave a lot to be desired. I am an adult with advanced degrees and I had trouble following some of them. You will likely need to help your child through some parts of this. Many experiments require things to sit and wait for up to a day, so definitely read in advance and plan ahead.

My daughter loves this chemistry kit! I got it for her as a Christmas gift and she has so much fun playing with it! I think it was a great value of money, having over 100 experiments to try! And the best part is that it’s educational! I was very surprised that the product is made with top notch quality products. I’d say if you’re considering this for your kiddo, go ahead and buy it.

I agree with the reviewers who complain that you need MANY extras that are NOT commonly found in most households. I could understand if it were just a few things like rubbing alcohol, foil, and vinegar but the very first experiment calls for sand. A lot of kids won't even be able to do the first experiment because of that - not a good way to start your experience with a new chemistry set. The second experiment says "if denatured alcohol is available" an adult can add it to the vial but it doesn't explain what difference it will make if you don't happen to have denatured alcohol lying around. I bought this for a boy from a low income family and I will easily need to spend an extra $20+ to make sure he can at least do most of the experiments. My list is not complete but has over 30 additional items. There is a smaller partial list of additional materials needed on page 13 of the manual but it should be a complete list. Of course you want materials on hand when the set is first opened so if people get this for a gift, they should take the manual out beforehand and read the first 10 pages or so and the initial experiments so they know all the extras to provide. And measuring liquids in cm is crazy. There's no reason not to get a child off to the right start by using ml. Why be confusing like that? This is version 2.0 and there is no reason for these defects in the set. At the very least they should make sure the first experiment can be done with materials provided in the kit. I have emailed tech support with some questions and gotten great assistance so that is a big plus. I was going to return the set but the more I looked through the manual to make a list of at least most of the needed additional materials, the more I felt like the set would be a lot of fun for a kid. Buyers just need to be aware that they should do a lot of reading on their own before giving it to a child and obtain many extra items so the child can actually do the first experiments without undue frustration. AT $55, I would expect better. I gave this chemistry set to my nephew for his 9th birthday. I had a chemistry set at that age and I hope that he enjoys it as much as I did mine.

We bought this for our ten year old daughter. It started off rough, MOSTLY because we did not thoroughly read directions. Things we learned the hard way 1) for the first experiment, you need a bit of sand, not much. 2) the next experiment requires letting it sit a bit. 3) YES there is supposed to be an EMPTY bottle in the package. We have only gotten a couple days into this because we just got it but if you keep these in mind, it will save confusion. Also, READ all the directions and know ahead of time that the experiments build on each other so you cannot just find a fun looking one. The directions are easy to follow, although, there are a lot to get started (the part we "skimmed) because we were anxious to do stuff. Totally worth the price, just takes a little more work then just opening bottles and mixing stuff up.

We are encouraged by the level of skill suggested. It is a gift for a talented grand daughter.
