Seal Tight Damper 13" x 18", Air Tight Chimney Damper, Suitable for Wood Burning, Masonry Fireplace Chimneys

Replaced a leaking damper this has help keep the room warmer and drafts out. Was easy to install and use.

Out of the box and in use in about 15 minutes. The old damper in our firebox does not move freely, so this was the perfect solution. I used existing hardware in the fireplace to hook the cable when closed, so I cannot comment on installation of the bracket. If the damper is not closed tightly it will collect water that then drops down the chimney when it is opened. When closed tightly, the lid has a slight pitch, which should make the water run off the side. Quality material, sturdy and very sound. It fit perfectly, which was great because I just guessed at the size. I was surprised at the price of these dampers when I started looking. This was the best deal at $225. Well worth it, however, for preventing a draft.

Exactly what I needed for my fireplace. Installation was easy and it was weather tight once installed. One thing you have to be careful of is ensuring the door opened. Had released the cable to open the door but the door was stuck shut. Lit my fire and smoked my house out before realizing it was stuck closed even though my cable was in the open position.. you can hear when it closes and opens tho.

Whether this works for what we need remains to be seen. We installed this on one of our fleus where there was a backdraft issue. I gave it 4 stars because the 9x13 we purchased didn't quite fit. Not sure why, but the closure mechanism bumped against the edge which would've made it impossible to open and close had we needed it to. Luckily we didn't so it will remain shut permanently. It is well built, seems strong and sturdy.

You can see daylight by the bolts holding the hatch on. As a result, the damper leaks air, water, and is overall a terrible damper as a result. Easy to operate, but doesn't keep the elements out when the manufacturing tolerances are so large.
