These are ideal knives for mushroom foraging. Perfect size, folding blade, built in brush, beautiful beechwood handle. Sturdy and easy to use. I have several and they make great gifts too. Arrived very quickly, well packaged and exactly as described.

Great little tool for mushroom hunting. Just keep in mind, like any Opinel knife, this knife comes razor sharp and shouldn’t be handled by someone inexperienced with knives. Staying true to the brand, the knife is well made and feels good in the hand. No doubt you’ll only need one of these to last you a decade or two. The locking mechanism is just like any other Opinel knife, easy to open but it won’t come open by mistake. With that in mind, these away from children.

Bought this for my brother, he cultivates shiitake mushrooms on logs and occasionally forages for various other mushrooms. This knife and brush is perfect. The hook blade allows you to reach around the back of the mushroom stem to slice is easily and the brush is stiff enough to remove dirt and debris while soft enough not to damage the mushroom.

Hi there, I would like to start this review off by saying that this knife is great for any dedicated forager. The Opinel brand comes with great quality for a somewhat decent price, that being said, if you are a novice or someone who forages casually then you may find better value in the many “mushroom knife’s” that are in the ten dollar range. The boar hair brush works great for removing dirt/debris and the blade can be safely locked open or closed with an easy swivel of the guard. The blade is made out of stainless steel so it’s easy to maintain, however, it didn’t come absolutely razor sharp… but I have no issue spending the few minutes it takes to put a razor sharp edge on it. Overall I am happy with my purchase and would recommend this product as a gift for your amateur mushroom hunter or as a nice little “treat yourself item” for your more dedicated foragers.

As an avid forager, the Opinel No. 08 Mushroom Knife has become an essential tool in my kit. However, I did notice that the blade wasn’t as sharp as I expected straight out of the box, and I had to give it a quick touch-up. Additionally, the locking mechanism feels a little stiff at times, but it hasn’t caused any major issues. Overall, this knife is a fantastic choice for anyone passionate about foraging. Its functionality, classic design, and convenience make it a tool I highly recommend!

Perfect, nice and sharp, easy fold

オピネルの一般的なフォールディングナイフに比べて高価なのが難点です。通常のナイフと刷毛を別に持っていた方が安く使いやすいように思いますが、こういうアイテムはファッションなので諦めます。 ニス塗りのコーティングはされているようですが、割り込みや溝の部分など塗られていないか塗りの甘い部分からは吸水します。おそらく折り畳みがしにくくなったりすると思われます。ハンドル材の導管が見えるところは斜めにカットしている部分も含めて防水処理をした方が安心して使えると思います。 刃もきちんとつけられていないので、柔らかいキノコを切るだけならこのままでも良いでしょうが、硬質のキノコも相手にするなら研いだ方が良いと思います。湾曲しているので通常の砥石では研げません。丸棒ヤスリとセラミックシャープナーでざっくりと研ぎました。 実用的にはキノコ山菜用となっている小鎌がホームセンターで300円くらいで売られているのでそっちを買うのがおそらく正解です。
