Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Hard Shaving Soap Refill, 3.5-Ounce, (01051)

I have just reached 1-year/3-months using the same Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Hard Shaving Soap and it's still going strong. I shave every day (365 days/year). This shave soap provides great lather for an amazing shave...and it smells great! (Ignore all those negative comments regarding the smell...it's classic) * My tools are: - Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Hard Shaving Soap in a wooden bowl. - WEISHI Butterfly Open Double Edge Safety Razor. (w/ Astra Platinum Double Edge Safety Razor Blades,100 Blades) - YAQI Brown Synthetic Shaving Brush, Rainbow Handle - 26 mm knot. -Timeless Razor Blue Plastic Shaving Bowl. * After the first couple of months using this shave soap, I perfected my method of producing slick & creamy lather: A. Wet the brush with the hottest water you can get out of your tap. B. Give the brush one quick squeeze to remove excess water (but don't remove too much water...this soap is water hungry!). C. I then load the brush from the shave soap in the wooden bowl by spinning and swirling over the soap surface (wipe up any excess soap/lather from the wooden bowl with your finger and deposit it on the bristles at the tip of the brush). D. Using the plastic bowl, swirl the brush clockwise/counterclockwise for 1-2 minutes to create the lather. Add a small amount of hot water to the tip of the brush as needed during the lather building process. E. Apply to face and enjoy! There's no need for me to look for another shave soap...I've discovered the BEST!

Awesome product! I was looking for a better travel solution. I’ve had a beard for the past 3 years, and only shaved my neck and cheeks. Now that I’m clean shaven, I was looking to simplify and not have to carry a tube of cream on the road. I tested it this morning at home with a 3 pass shave. The smell was fantastic and the lather thick, smooth and creamy. I’ve used Trumper for years and thought I’d give TOBS a try. I was very impressed and looking forward to my next trip to use it on the road.

I hadn’t realized that the previous shave soap was used up so quickly, as it was the first one that I had used that was soft instead of hard. I loved how quickly this soap lathered up with my brush and did not get watery while on my face. The scent is nice and I had some concerns that it would be a bit too strong, based on the scent straight out of the box. However, it has a subtle scent that is not overpowering. I like that value this soap gives, as I believe it may last me at least 2 years, based on other hard shaving soaps. As I bought 2 straight razors (Thiers Issard) and sharpening stones (Norton 1000/4000 & 4000/8000 grit), soap is the only part of my shaving set that I have bought in over 20 years.

I was eager to get this because Crabtree & Evelyn no longer make shave soap, and I'd been using their Sandalwood for decades. This is the closest you'll get, and it is also made in England. It is about the same size and scent, and TOBS is known for top quality shaving products. It will fit in a scuttle or put it in a dish or repurpose a container. However you do it, you'll get a lot of shaves out of it. This stuff lasts, even if/when you're using it exclusively. I like their shave cream, but I like this hard soap even more. With a good brush you'll whip up a terrific lather and get a great, smooth shave, while enjoying the fragrance.

This doesn’t has much of a Sandalwood scent but does produce a nice lather. Not too thick or foamy. Smells like traditional shaving soap, which I like.

Great refill for my Taylor wooden bowl. I originally started shaving, years ago, using the old Yardley of London wooden bowl (Gifted to me by my Dad.), but those haven't been available since the late 60s/early 70s. The Taylor bowls must be turned on the same lathe pattern though, because they are a dead ringer for the old Yardley bowls, except that they have a nicer sealing finish to the wood. I'd missed the Yardley bowls, and the resemblance is what first got me to try the Taylor's. I was very pleasantly surprised, and I am sold. The Taylor soap lathers richly even in our hard water, and I get a good, clean shave. The soap rinses cleanly, doesn't irritate my skin, and leaves a nice, mild, clean scent, which can either stand alone, or is subtle enough not to conflict with my aftershave. I saw one submitter complain about the rising price, but at one year's life per bowl, the current $15 price yields a cost of only a little over $0.04 (4 cents!) per shave. I'm pretty sure that the hot water that I use per shave costs more than that, so I'm fine with it.

I have used many soaps including this brand in the cream form. I have used Conk Bay Rum for many years now then last year they reformulated. The new formula was ok, almost left a slight burning sensation at the end of my shave. (BTW merkur 34C, feather blades) decided to try other options, proraso green tube is ok in summer, but the menthol a little over powering for me. Tried this a week ago and WOW, very smooth shave. Lather was effortless and nice and thick. I have had no nicks or cuts. I like the clean smell, its almost "old man smell" but in a good way. The scent does last even though i use a ton of gables bay rum aftershave after words. hope this helps!

This is the 3rd time I have ordered this shaving soap. I have been a hard shaving soap and brush shaver for over 35 years. I have gone back to canned shaving foam twice in that timeframe but never lasted more than a week before coming back to my cake soap and brush. NOTHING lubricates my beard and gives me a closer shave, even with a blade that has seen 2 or 3 shaves past it's prime. As long as I can find this product, I will never go anywhere else.

Sie schäumt hervorragend auf, liefert einen cremigen, stabilen Schaum und duftet angenehm herb, dabei erfreulich dezent. Die Ergiebigkeit ist beeindruckend, sodass sich der Preis rasch relativiert. Mittlerweile bin ich ein echter Fanboy – eine kleine Auszeit, die zuverlässig gut funktioniert. Wenn ich könnte, ich würde mehr Sterne vergeben.

Worth every dollar, smooth shave using this soap.

Quand on acheté le bol en bois il est avantageux de pouvoir acheter une simple recharge un an ou presque après. Ce savon est excellent, pour moi en tous cas. Il facilite le rasage, sent bon mais pas trop, et dure plutôt longtemps (en ce qui me concerne).
