Hover about any iPad in space for hands free use with this sturdy hover bar.
I bought this for some hands free iPad use, I especially wanted to mount it to my desk and have my iPad used for another screen and even make use of the camera in it for some video angles on a multi cam video shoot. Overall the build of this is great, very sturdy and it will hold your iPad Air, Mini, 4Th and 5th Gen iPads as well with the included mount clips. It also has a easel type stand clip that you can use without the bar. My only issue was the clamp, it was not very adaptable and would not work with my desk or a few other places I wanted to mount it. I just couldn't get the clamp wide enough. So I did mount it to the back of my iMac, but I felt like it was a chore and that I might scratch up my iMac stand with it. Once I got it mounted I was able to adjust the bar to where my iPad was hovering to the left of my iMac screen. I plan on using some apps that will allow me to use the iPad as another screen and also a blue tooth keyboard for iPad control wirelessly. Overall it didn't work for what I bought it for, but its a quality build product that is flexible and can mount most of the iPads out there. Lots of uses for this, in bed, in the kitchen, working out on a treadmill, etc. It was worth the purchase overall.

Clever and well-made, but with a few glaring flaws.
+ Arm and desk clamp are very solid and well constructed, and once set in place my iPad Air 2 does not move at all. Great for my application where I want to use my tablet as a secondary computer monitor, but if you are making frequent adjustments you may notice that the arm is a bit difficult to bend.+ Overall you can tell that a lot of thought went into the design, and the price is decent for what you get. The variety of mounting 'cases', and inclusion of a picture-frame type stand is clever and thoughtful.- Desk clamp is unreasonably small. My desk top is only 1.25" thick and I had to remove both rubber pads to mount the clamp, and will likely have desk damage when the clamp is removed. There's no reason this couldn't be designed to fit desks up to 1.5+" in size.- iPad 'case' is very thin plastic. The case itself is very cleverly designed and holds my iPad Air 2 well, but its extremely thin plastic construction does not give me any confidence that it will last. I would expect at least the kind of construction you see in a standard iPad case.

It's only as good as it's weakest link, which is very weak indeed.
I love the idea of this, but the implementation is lacking. The mount is spot-on solid! The arm... solid as a rock! Where it breaks down is the mount between the arm and the part that holds the iPad. The iPad mount itself is fine.. very snug fit to the iPad (I have an iPad Pro 9.7"). But the way the mount clicks into the part that connects to the ball joint is a bit sloppy with no way to tighten it. Since I'm only using this for one iPad, no problem... a drop of super-glue and it's nice and snug. The only component left is the plastic piece that grips the ball joint... and it's crap. The first time I loosened it to make adjustments, half of the teeth fell out. I wrote twelve south about this and they were very prompt in sending me a new one, asking me to be careful about tightening it too much. Ok... maybe it was my gorilla hands. So I was VERY careful with the replacement. Same issue all over again. It's really too bad. Everything about this thing is very solid, but this one piece feels like it's made out of very cheap plastic. It now has 2 teeth left and droops like it's sad that it has flawed parts. This would be a 5 star review if it weren't for this one poor crappy piece of plastic.

How to fit the iPad mini 4 to Hoverbar. I bought two of these.
Twelve South HoverBar 3 for iPad | Adjustable arm for iPad Pro (9.7"), iPad Air (1/2), iPad Mini (1/2/3)/iPad (2/3/4) This review is for 12 South Hoverbar 3, in case Amazon decides to blend my review with reviews for stick blenders or titanium sheet metal. I like this product so much, I bought two of them, one from Amazon, and one from 12 South. One is attached to a rolling table in the living room, and the other is in the kitchen, so I can use it for recipes. My iPad is a 4 mini. I took diagonal cutting pliers and cut the ends off the 3 legs of the clip, traced it on the back of an inexpensive case from which I had cut the cover (mine is a Fintie), and used contact cement to glue the two together. If you do this, not only read the directions for use on the contact cement, but also follow them, for best results. This device is thoughtfully engineered from robust materials, and works very well. I do/did not have the problems that provoked complaints you can read in negative reviews.

Works great! Kind of wish that the clamp system was built so that you don't need a separate allan wrench (what if I lose it??). It's been clamped to my bedframe and I don't plan on moving it anywhere else in the house. However if I did, this clamp system would not be the best.I purchased a refurbished version and the back mounting system lost some plastic teeth when I was installing it. but it doesn't seem to affect it's performance.

Sturdy, flexible mount for iPad
I bought this to clamp to the top of a floor loom for weaving so I can keep track of my pattern and watch videos on my iPad Air. It has worked out better than I expected. The unit is very sturdy, the is clamp is well designed and secure, the mounts to keep the iPad secure are strong and it is easy to take the iPad in and out.I was worried based upon the negative reviews that it would be unsteady with the movement of my loom but it hasn't budged at all from how I set it up, despite daily use.

Decent, but a little unstable if you have to use the screen for touch interactions.
The neck struggles a bit with my iPad 3's weight. Not as stable as I'd hoped, but works OK for using the iPad for a second screen, just don't expect much stability if you want to interact with the iPad screen. The extra included stand for using the iPad without the arm is worthless. The angle it provides is not useful at all.
