I just need to add on an extra wifi point to my google wifi system. will this work?

Do you have to have an Internet provider in order for this to work ?

Yes, this is just a router which will exapnd the range of your wireless network or convert your ethernet network to a wireless network. You need an ISP (Internet Service Provider) to provide you internet first.

We have a mifi in our cabin, can i connect this to an existing wifi? i won't have a cat 5 connection.

If your mifi has an ethernet port you can hardwire the first one and do the rest wireless.

Will this work in the country if we have satellite internet?

Well, if you have a Router where the internet signal arrive you connect this Google Router with a LAN cable a that one connect with the others in range to expand the signal.
