Overall a Very Good Value for a “Firm and Responsive” Durable Drum Practice Pad.
Overall very good pad designed to last with normal use and care and a good value at $49. Depending on the drumstick used of course, slightly less bounce than a 12” Real Feel practice pad but with a noticeably “harder feel”. The bounce and feel may be compared to a tightly highly pitched concert snare drum; so, if you’re seeking after a lower pitch tom feel this is not it, unless you ingeniously drape it with a foam mouse pad for versatility and lower volume. Round tip drum sticks provide a somewhat “bouncier and softer” response, particularly with Vic Firth’s lighter and shorter (15”+ length) 7A Round Tip Drumstick that can be considered to develop finger control, sensitivity and lightness; nylon drum sticks provide a similar response but to a lesser degree. It’s relatively quiet but its volume should not be compared to the literally mute sound of a foam type pad like Flexx or Prologix’s Blue Lightning, Black Extreme Resistance or even Red Storm, but the creative use of a towel or mouse pad may help lower the volume. The mere physics of its circumference (12”) does exhibit a different tone than its smaller counterpart 6” portable version. Rim shots and the use of various drum stick attack angles on different parts of the pad, even with the methodical use of various dynamics, whether the pad is used on a snare stand (with a tightly firm or looser basket adjustment), a soft (like a bed mattress) or very hard surface (thick marble or cement) can provide a variety of textures, pitches and tone for a more interesting experience. It’s a good pad to develop the feel for the “Push and Pull” technique without unnecessarily exerting excessive fatigue on various hand and finger tendons, muscles and nerve that other resistance pads may potentially cause when pushing the limits that could subsequently lead to injury. Black color helps hide silicone wear, discoloring with age and black painted wood base can easily be repainted black when it becomes worn if desired. Very stable, does not move on a service. Meinl should have used some foam underneath the pad for additional versatility of use, as many other pads provide.

Accuracy and speed
The size is perfect to develop accuracy. Good bounce. Best and most versatile pad I've ever had of its size. I love mine. 🤘

Meinl delivers again.
I work in my car and often have down time between tasks. I was looking for a pad I could use in the car and in other small spaces to practice speed and rudiments. This thing works perfectly! The strap is sturdy and has taken a beating from the sun without failing. The pad isn't too rubbery and the level of rebound is great. It has less rebound than a real drum head which is great for a practice pad. Most have too much rebound. The only thing I would say is I had to use a smaller stick to practice in the car. I usually use a 8a and had to use a shorter 7a to avoid having my hands in a twisted position. Overall this is a great product. If it ever wears out I will definitely buy another. I've been able to increase my practice time and can see and feel the results.

Read the descriptions carefully.
Don’t confuse this pad like I did with the Marshmallow pad. It is made of gum rubber which is harder than the Marshmallow pad.

Great pad
Awesome little portable pad. Great sound, not that loud, and has a high rebound. Similar rebound to the evans real feel pad.

Base gets many paint chips!
I wasn't sure I could really use this to practice while watching TV in my recliner but it's actually great for that! While the 4 inch size is a bit small, I can easily hit it 99% of the time, without looking at it/watching TV. The reason I'm only giving it 3 stars is because of the black base immediately developing paint chips! I didn't notice them when I unboxed it so, I used a black permanent marker to color more than half a dozen spots missing paint. It looked fine and for $20 I didn't want to return it. Over the next few days, I meticulously made sure I did not hit any "accidental rimshots.” To my surprise, many of the paint chips were back! I think these were all the same chips, rather than new ones. But, I'm not 100% sure. I think the vibrations caused the permanent black marker to essentially vanish! I took photos. I considered paint but then decided on a better solution. Tonight, I applied 4 coats of black, Plasti-Dip spray. Hopefully, that will not vibrate away. However, I cannot recommend this pad, even at the low price.
