This is a pretty good value for what you get. A large amount of different sized bags and the hand pump works pretty well. If you dont have an automatic vacuum sealer id recommend this. I even use the hand pump when my automatic is having issues due to moisture.

I am very angry for not noticing this in the photos. Learn from my mistake! For sous vide bags to be reusable they must be able to be cleaned. That means the bag MUST have rounded corners and the bag MUST be able to be turned inside out. GOOD sous vide bags have those two things in common and you will find them here on Am*z*n if you look closely. Don't be complacent. These WILL cause SERIOUS food poisoning due to the way they are used. Steeping for 8 hours in last weeks meat juices will surely make you deathly ill! Absolute junk produced by a company with no regulatory oversight, or concern for your well being. Please take this warning seriously. Returning things here on Am*zon has become very difficult. Given the hassle I will have no choice but to chuck these in the trash. EDIT: So rather than trash these I decided to use each bag once anyhow. I was curious about the vacuum device, seemed like it would save one big hassle. In fact it did nothing. I tried for twenty minute to pull a vacuum in those bags, or even get one little draw through that hole. 1. the pump does not pull air out that hole in the bag. 2. that hole in the bag is just for show, there is no route for air out of that hole in anyway at all. My wife and the neighbor tried for another half an hour to make that pump work, or get that bag to release any air from that hole.... nothing! Then we used them... sealed them well (this wasn't our first rodeo)... and they leaked with authority. I have never had any bag leak while sous viding! And we have been using old fashion zip lock bags you buy by the box. Hmmmm.... maybe that hole does something after all?!?! But it gets better.... The clips I thought.... well they'll be useful. Nope, one broke immediately. If you get them you'll be stunned by how junky those clips are. But yes... better still, the one clip I had used that didn't break... the spring rusted while it was sitting in the dish rack (that's overnight).

Pros: suction works well; love the different sized bags Cons: a HUGE pain to get clean; some of the zippers failed after the first use Cleaning was a pain. We first filled them with hot water and dish soap, let them sit for a bit, then rinsed out. Still tons of noticeable grease/food particles left, so we flipped them inside out and cleaned them. But they were still noticeably kinda stained/greasy. Our first attempt at sous vide, I used five of the bags - 1 for a beef roast, and 4 for ribeyes. One of the steak bags partially unsealed in the fridge, but that may have been because the steak was RIGHT at the limit of the bag's capacity, so I'm not knocking the bags for that one failure. However, about a week later, I tried to use three steak bags again (for more steaks). 2/3 bags wouldn't zipper shut completely, so when I tried to suction them, they just....slowly refilled. I'm positive the steaks weren't too big for the bags as this time I made sure there was plenty of space between the top of the steak and the "max fill" line on the bag. After checking the zippers, I realized they weren't closing all the way, no matter how hard I tried to push them together. I'm not sure if the hot water from washing them warped the plastic or something, but ultimately I ended up with a handful of single-use bags.

To be fair, I didn't buy this for sous vide, but I may try it. I bought it to seal my coffee beans . After four days, the original bag no longer sealed. Probably okay, really, how many times can you reuse a bag that will be filled with meat/vegetable/butter/milk juices and expect to clean and reuse. I will use them up and assuming they are not toxic, I would think they are a good buy. The ziplock seems sturdy and the first two times I sealed my beans it worked perfect. One always has issues with bags in the sous vide. I generally use the vacuum bag - food saver - for doing this. But there can be leakage and if I am doing a long cook I use two bags. But this method, with the little pump is nice and quiet. I am not sure how keen I am on washing this bag out after using it once, which make it a more pricey option from my point of view.

i never NEVER used a vacuum food system before. i used the usual ziploc bags and smooshed the air out best i could. but as of late, i got tired of freezer burn, always thinking i need to freeze the food better or use it fatser. so i gave in and searched and window shopped and for the price i figured i would try this one. and i really do use it!! it is simple to use, the bags are reuseable (i wash, let dry and use again) and so far so good on freezer burn and ease of use. One draw back for some may be that it is manual pump (non battery/non electric) but it is that reason why i like it. if the power goes out for a long time (6+ hours), you will open some food item; with no elec, you can't seal up that opened food or wet clothing or pet food, etc. and if the battery dies and you don't have replacements on hand, you don't have worry with this one. so yes for me, this one works. and ease of travel (camping, rv travel, B.O.B) because it is manual, small and easy to store. would i recommend: yes pros: ease of use; manual, reusuable bags cons: if you want more bags, you have to buy the kit (but that may not be too bad of a thing) 4 stars because, hey, i want you to believe this review was given by an actual user! and a five star just might make you be a bit more skeptical of this review.
