High maintenance filter media
This filter was recommended to me as the absolute best and while not the simplest the most reliable. But so had the last filter I ordered and that was a nightmare. I love this filter, but I find that it takes an awful lot of effort to clean these stones, and if you buy more and replace them tank will go into an absolute frenzy because you have to leave some of the old media stones in there or you’ll have a disaster. The bags are hard to wash with the stones in there. I unzip them and then blast hot water into every nook and cranny cleaning all the stones . When I put the washed bag back in the filter, it’s fine. By the time the New media bag is ready to be replaced. You have to start all over again and you have to do this with the charcoal bag and the pad that goes at the very bottom of the filter. I’m juggling these things constantly. I only have a 10 gallon tank with three corydoras, and five small guppies. I also have two live plants. I have white sand as a base medium and that’s it aside from some caves for the fish. Cleaning the tank is not a huge ordeal and this filter does a good job but holy cow it keeps you hopping.! I should mention the price point isn’t bad for the filter but the media bags, etc. can add up. The filter is not noisy, but it is like having a small waterfall in your bedroom. And I’d be remiss not to mention that if you fought her in your media cleaning duties for even 3 Days you will smell it and there’s no escaping that! I recommend this filter because I’ve learned that all filters demand obedience and speed and it was recommended to me by someone who not only has 20 tanks himself but works in a Pet Store in the aquarium Section, and has a personal business going around cleaning peoples tanks and filters! So if he recommends it, you know it’s got to be good and simpler than the alternatives. I’ve had a lot of fishtanks in my life all the way up to 55 gallons and to be honest, I’ve never had problems like I have had with this silly 10 gallon tank, not even 10 gallon tanks in the past. I think it’s just me and the filter and filter media is fine!

Very good product
I was having trouble with amonia levels being too high but this in my sponge media chamber and it cleared the water over night and amonia is now at 0. Only problem I have is it floats.
