Great value on this classic chess set with magnetic wooden pieces and board. I’ve had a few and found myself without a good one after moving. Mine came with a nice clothe bag with drawstring to protect it when not in use. The foam insert hugs all the pieces but one or two really well. Decently portable with folding.

We wanted a travel chess at for my daughter. She loves to play with her dad but wanted something compact that we could carry around with us. The case is beautiful, has a velvet spot for each chess piece. The magnetic board is super convenient and makes it a lot easier to keep all the pieces. If they have to stop in the middle of a game we don’t have to worry about the pieces moving around. It’s perfect for kids who might not be able to keep things together.

It was dropped inside of the carrying case and it broke immediately on impact. A great chessboard that lasted a while, although broke due to my own error.

This chess set is a basic set for casual players, the pieces are wood, carved well enough to tell what they are, and aren’t weighted at all. The pieces to have magnets in the base to keep them in place on the board. The set includes extra queen pieces. The board folds in half and doubles as a storage box with foam inserts that hold the pieces. The quality of the board is also decent enough, but definitely not what I would consider premium. It has a wood veneer adhered to a particle board substrate and the seam is exposed along the edges. The fit and finish are acceptable, but nothing premium. There are no letters or numbers on the board, so that may be a deal-breaker for serious students of the game. The maker included a velvet cloth pouch for the board, which is nice to protecting the set in storage. There is also a very basic rule book. Overall, I’m content with the set, but it’s not quite as nice as I expected for the price. It should do fine for playing with my kiddos around the house and last for many years as long as we don’t abuse it.

Love it! We really like that this chess set is magnetic so that our chess pieces do not move when proceeding with the game the next day! I really think it’s an absolutely excellent set and well crafted. Because someone mentioned the closing-opening tabs as making potential surface scratches, I bought a piece of thick platform in black at the Dollar Store, cut it to generous size and placed underneath the chess game to protect the ceramic countertop/wood. Now the entire chess set is easily transported, too. We think this chess set is truly a great find with excellent attributes.

I am so impressed with the quality of this set. The board is a bit larger than I thought it would be but the wood is shiny and unblemished. The pieces aren't really heavy, but good quality wood. The magnet isn't too strong, but strong enough to hold the piece down. The gold latches work well and the inside of the board has a clever holding system for the pieces that makes them secure, not rolling around getting scratched. It isn't the best chess board out there I'm sure, but it's certainly the best for $30. HIGHLY recommend.

Well-made chess set. Great for daily use and very stylish. It's not perfect, but it's very good for the price.

We were happy with it. Ordered it for our family with 3 boys to play. The kids loved the size of the chess pieces as well as the board. They LOVED the fact that they have another Queen piece =) Quality wise, good for the price we pay. Not disappointed.

Its an ok chess board set but at that price range I would expect better quality control, the set I received had a lot of minor defects: - The stain color for black pieces varies quite a bit; the worst offender is a knight so dark it doesn't even look like it's from the same set - This being a magnetic set, magnets are inserted at the base of each piece, a few pawns have it popping out a little which make the pawns look like little crooked Pisa towers. - visible scuff marks on certain pieces - to the touch some pieces' stem are slightly oval rather than being round I would say 15 inches is a bit big for a travel size. Avoid if you're looking for something compact.
