Over a year and a half and it's still working great.
I purchased this item on July 1, 2015 and it's been over 1-1/2 years of experience with this item. It's still functioning great. Originally put some Duracell batteries in this thing and they lasted several months. Replaced them with Rayovacs and lasted another several months. It's now running on some rechargeable eneloops and it's been about 4 months right now. If they last another 2 months, I'll be very happy and will need to update my review on the eneloops. For those not having much luck with rechargeables, try the eneloops. I swear, they are the BEST rechargeable AA/AAA cells I've ever experienced. You can get them at Cosco for less than what Amazon lists. [Pros] - Batteries last at least several months before having to replace them. - Rechargeable ENELOOP has lasted 4 months and still going... I will update with overall. - Been over 1-1/2 years and still works great. No issues. - Convenience of not having to deal with metal keys. - Add guest pins for neighbors when out of town to water plants etc. Returning the favor of course! - Easy to install, RTFM and you will be fine. Also, don't lose the manual and the included allen hex key! - Buttons have not worn out or can expose the numbers used in the pin. I've read reviews where the touchpad one can possibly expose the numbers due to wear. Just looking at the buttons. When I got the z-wave model, I didn't get the touch (916) since these buttons are perfectly fine. - Hit lock key again to show backlight in the dark. I've never had to use it since my home is automated. If the power goes out, then I probably would need to use it. - Works when the power is out since it runs on batteries. - Looks great and matches all the other ORB kwikset handles I've installed. [Cons] - None since purchase! [Regrets] - Wish I had purchased the z-wave model at the time. [Additional notes] - Comparing this with the new z-wave model, the keypad on the z-wave version is a little smaller so the paint marks outlined the new one. I decided to try the keypad from this one with the z-wave version and it works. So the keypad from the new one is connected to this (non-z-wave) model. Hope this info is useful for those who plan to upgrade to the newer smart versions. [Conclusion] I've read some strange reviews, such as the guy who removed the plastic window thinking that's how to replace the batteries when the manual doesn't illustrate to do that. The plastic part is for z-wave and zigbee radio frequencies. For those with battery issues, it's probably the cold weather. Lithiums might be better to use. In my case, I live in the south and the eneloops work great. I'm so happy with this product that I decided to upgrade the one on my front door with a z-wave model. I've moved this one to the interior garage door. My wife would accidentally lock me out in the garage not knowing I was out there. I can easily enter a pin and get back inside now. I'm ready to buy one of the z-wave interior locks and another z-wave deadbolt for the backdoor. I will be writing a review on the z-wave version. I'm using some fresh recharged eneloops on the new one. Hopefully it lasts as long as this one has.

Great deal and great product
This lock is well constructed, looks great, and makes my family feel secure. The instructions it supplied were "pretty good".....a few places I did things out of order though I am not sure if it was user error or misleading directions. I am not a "tool person" and not mechanically inclined, but even so this was pretty darn easy to install. The lock mechanism adjusts to pre-cut holes SUPER nicely, and having never changed a deadbolt it was installed within 20 minutes. The keypad itself is SUPER COOL! I didn't realize you could have multiple codes, I found that out by mistake (again, user error re: reading directions?), but once I got the hang of that I was able to enter codes for each family member. The mechanism is very smooth, the key itself works well, and overall this is a wonderful deal! We highly recommend this. Note: You are able to change the key portion itself, though that was WAY above my head. Since we don't plan on using the key except for when the battery dies, we didn't go there. Updated 6/24/17: We moved and we purchased this AGAIN for our new house! Installation was WAY easier this time; I am not sure if it was because I've done it before, or if it just was less intimidating in general. We love this product and it makes our life so much easier and we feel very secure with this on our door.

Easy to install, looks good, works fine -- but difficult battery access
If you have ever changed a locked before, installing this digital Kwikset Lock should be a breeze. There a few more steps than a standard deadbolt, since you have to deal with a larger electronic mechanism. But I had no issues. Just follow the instructions. I even skipped some of the steps, like installing the strikeplate, since the one I had worked fine, amazingly enough. The one provided witht the lock has a bigger hole, which gives you some wiggle room if the deadbolt does not line up with the strikeplate exactly right. That's essential since the electric motor that moves the bolt need zero resistance. No rubbing. The Kwikset Smartkey technology is another big plus. It allows users to easily rekey the lock to match your current key. Only takes a minute or two. Much easier and cheaper than calling a locksmith. Another feature I really like is the internal indicator light flashes a different color, depending whether the lock is open or closed. Green for open. Amber for closed. So you can tell from across the room the status of the lock, which is handy. (Indicator flashes every few seconds in normal operations to assure you the batteries are working and in good condition). My only real beef is that the battery pack is not exactly easily accessible. You have to remove three screws that hold on the internal cover to get to the batteries and change them. A better design would provided a door through the cover to do this. Or some sort of clip system instead of screws to get the cover on and off.. Hopefully the batteries do not have to be changed too often (depends on usage, of course) so this is not a dealbreaker. Programming is pretty simple. But error handling is not exactly intuitive. The keypad and/or internal internal light flash different colors when problems occur. You need the instructions to decipher what the colors and number of flashes or beeps mean. Overall, it's a good sturdy lock that works as advertised and, in my experience, is much cheaper here than in the big box stores. A worthy upgrade if you want or need the features a digital lock provides.

Just renovated my home and needed a solid digital lock. When installed, it was found to be faulty. I could not return it as there would be a gaping hole at my door so it was really a great disappointment. The design as you can see suited my door to a tee.

Se me ha hecho imposible programar un código. No hay caso, sigo los pasos tal cual aparecen en las instrucciones y nada. No se cómo ponerme en contacto con servicio al cliente.

I only had one key left on my key ring so I went out to look for a smart lock because I love tech. All the big guys have nice products but just a bit too pricey for the added value I would get in my life IMO. Plus I was afraid that the wife would have trouble using them and let's be honest, these things are great when they work but with all things wifi and bluetooth, there is always a time when they just fail you for no good reason and then you don't remember how you set it up in the first place yadiyadiyada. So at one point I discovered it didn't have to be complicated and went for this electronic lock instead of a smart lock. This is the best little thing that happen to my house this year. It was installed in ten minutes, had a few codes programmed and it just work. Now I never need to worry if I got my key when going out. I would have gone for a non motorize model but none of them would fit my small bore hole (1.5" instead of the standard 2 1/8"). The motor takes about 2 seconds to unlock the door which some people find unnerving but I don't mind. It's also a bit noisy but I don't mind that either. I have been using it for one summer month now so I don't know about battery life yet and also if there are issues in the cold winter months. The motor is inside the house though so I doubt there will be any issue. Long story short I never thought such an inexpensive lock would bring so much joy (but mostly convenience) in my life. Oh and the wife loves it too!
