Cover Your Kingdom | Cover Your Assets New & Very Obnoxious Brother | A Magically Malicious Party Game for 2-8 Players 9+

This game is a great alternative to "Cover Your Assets". A brilliant family/friends game. We ordered it from Amazon and it arrived next day. Everyone was really excited and we sent a picture to GrandPa Becks and immediately got communication back from them. When we played our first game they were on hand to answer any clarifying questions we had by text, which was awesome. The artwork and feel of the cards is really good and it's definitely worth the investment. This is a really fun game to play once you get to know all the extended game-play rules and have run through it once or twice. Takes 4 of us about 30-40 mins to complete a game, but we do a lot of fighting........"Assets" will remain a favorite but "Cover Your Kingdom" has a number of additional cards which are downright nasty. If protecting a big stack in "Assets" is difficult, it's even harder in "Kingdom" as the additional magical cards (and the fact you get two goes per turn) are very powerful and you have two stacks to protect. Lots of upsets in games and everyone develops their own strategy. It does create a great atmosphere when someone brings out a "magical" card. I'd love to see "Assets" extended in the same to include a "Thief", "Safe", "Wealth Redistribution" or a "Taxman" card for example. Adding the same ruthlessness to that game would make it even more addictive! Contemplating using 2 decks like we do with "Assets" to extend the game-play and maybe have better distribution of the "magic" cards. My only negative (and it's not really that either) is that it's harder to relate to the "magic" value of a card against a "monetary" value in "Assets". So stealing a large stack in "Kingdom" doesn't feel as ruthless as stealing hard earned money. We have all the GrandPa Becks games now, and this ranks in our Top 3, along with "Assets" and "Skull King" (both very highly recommended if you haven't purchased already).

Such a fun game! And pretty simple to learn! The kids and adults love it! Good length of game where it isn’t over in 10 minutes but also doesn’t last too long! Maybe 20-30 minutes! Definitely worth the money!

Such a fun card game. There is a learning curve for the game but once you get the hang of it, it can be super fun!

I honestly added this game to my wishlist because it has "CerbeRussel Terriers". I wasn't expecting much out of the game, and it has been removed/readded to my wishlist throughout the year, but I was pleasantly surprised when I opened my Amazon package. The presentation of the box itself is very nice. It was a little larger than I imagined (I was thinking something like a Fluxx game). The player boards aren't amazing and my first thought was wondering if they needed to be laminated. They're kind of like the player boards in Castles of Burgundy... First thing you might notice is the insert - a colorful, simple piece of cardboard dividers in the box, with just enough room for all the components. I hate boxes that have wasted space and take up space on the game shelf! Side note: I kept both cardboard cutouts for the pieces - the one for all coins is now stored UNDER the insert (so the pieces are less likely to move around), and the other is on TOP of the cards/pieces, to prevent the crown from indenting the player boards/rule book. The cardboard pieces are thick and have good printing on them. When assembling the crown, you might want to get something to punch out the small holes in the crown to avoid ruining the cardboard (I used an Apple lightning cable). The crown goes around the first player marker btw. The cards are good quality. I wasn't expecting them to be linen finish since the box isn't and the player boards are eh...but the cards are linen finish and they are the main part of the game. The colors and drawings are all very nice, assuming you are amused by the artwork. The graphic design is good, clear, colorful. I noticed the unicorns were different, and actually every single card has some little difference - the unicorn might have a fishing pole or toilet paper for its horn - every card has its own little quirk. There are geeky jokes all throughout and that's fun! One of the characters is a VulcEnt (a Vulcan Ent) who may have a few Star Trek, LOTR, or Guardians of the Galaxy reference jokes. I LOVE it when cards are all different - just like in Wingspan, Terraforming Mars, and Dixit. The game is basically a card-shedding game. The fun part is playing your special ability cards at the right time and succeeding in recruiting another player's unguarded "creatures". You also have to balance growing your "clans" and defending them from being "recruited". It is pretty simple to learn, but I would recommend going over the rules - because there are some small little rules to keep in mind. I would rate it a 1.5 out of 5 difficulty (Crazy 8's = 1/5 and Hearts is 1.7/5). There is a video for how to play, but I like learning a game from reading the rulebook. This rulebook is straight forward and quick to read. The layout is very nice - it has a Contents on the first page, full color, information is spaced very well, and cute little drawings with little jokes on them. I was kind of annoyed that one of the pages in the rule book had a crease in it, but it's O.K. I was able to read it and try out the game while rereading the rules. The instruction manual says there are 131 cards...but I have 141 cards - so the rulebook might not have been updated (after the Kickstarter?) Some confusion I encountered was from adding a creature to a clan and recruiting, but rereading the rules afterwards, it mostly makes sense - It isn't 100% clear still f I can choose to discard and I'm assuming that if I am defending my kingdom and spend cards to do so, that I do not replenish my hand and have to start my next turn with less than 6 cards. There are also some various ways to play the game at the end: Longer or simpler, add Kingdom Powers or Constellation Prizes, Duellng, etc. There is also a recipe for uniquecorn dogs! I did originally plan to add this to my repertoire of dinner games, but this game is way too pretty to have chicken finger stains on it! I recommend this game if you are interested in a light, family-weight game, with silly art that is unique on every card with little geeky and corny jokes.

My daughter and I love this game. My wife and son less so. The Grandpa Beck games we have are pretty good. We got this after getting the very addictive Skull King. In the Cover your Kingdom game you can try to “coax” characters from another players kingdom into yours. You basically are trying to steal their characters. My daughter LOVES doing this. We’ve discovered that for games that have an “attack” element, sometimes individuals find this less fun. Games that rely more on individual strategy and/or cooperation tend to fit our family dynamic best. The Bears and the Bees game is like this, but the pace is slower. You need a game appropriate for the mood of the evening. Good Luck!

My 8 & 10 year old sons can’t get enough of this game! Great improvements from original game (Cover Your Assets). Lots of additional ways to increase the challenge and fun!

I have only had this game for a couple days and this game is so much fun. It is so much fun. It is played like cover your assets but there are some cards that make it much more interesting. First most the creatures like to either live on the moutain or in the valley some are willing to live in either place which comes in handy when you want to protect your creatures. There are wilds in this game similar to Cover Your Assets, instead of silver and gold there is a CerbeRussel Terrier (silver) and Spydra (gold). There are also exciting action cards that are...Grumledaulf's Elves (remove a clan atop another ruler's stack from the game), Hypnogriff (Blindly take 3 creatures from another ruler's hand. Then return 3 creatures), Wizzzaard (Move a clan from top to bottom, or bottom to top of stack), Minnowtaur (place in front of a rival to imprison them for 1 turn), MobGoblins (Swap one of your top clans with a clan atop another ruler's stack). My family loves Cover Your Assets and this is just as fun. There are a few more rules here but the new cards all explain how they are played. So much fun. There are a few people that might this game to have too many rules like a grandparent or young children. My ten year old have zero problems catching on to this game. We have not played with the little constellation tokens yet but they are cute and may be a fun addition as well.

This is a GREAT game! We bought this is August 2021 (about 2 months ago) and it’s a family favorite now. My 9 and 7 year old love it and want to play everyday and my husband and I want to play just as much. It absolutely can go from all-fun-and-games to tears and tantrums for the more sensitive (or sore-losing) kiddos, but a great opportunity to work through those challenges together. One minute you can be feeling really good about your kingdom and a few turns later have a very barren kingdom, you really don’t know who is going to win until the last card is played. And the PUNs oh the glorious puns! So much thought and nerdiness went into making this game and it’s just amazing I’m always finding hilarious gems while playing! The rules seem really complicated (even in the video) but once you start playing it starts clicking and we didn’t have any problem learning the rules (even my 7 year old—who has even probably won more than me). The rules can be overwhelming for new players but I encourage you to read them watch the video and dive right in because it’s totally worth it and not really that complicated once you get the hang of it. The only thing I’m sad about is that they don’t offer replacement parts on the website- a piece of our crown was ripped off and I can’t replace the cardboard crown and tape isn’t really holding it together and the game is new enough I don’t want to replace the whole thing. Can’t wait to get these as gifts for friends over the holidays!
