I use alkanet root for naturally coloring my handcrafted cold process soap. It turns blue when the lye is added, just like purple cabbage changes color based on acidity/alkalinity (if you add vinegar, it would turn red/pink). I mix alkanet with other root powders to get the color I desire. Good price for the quantity.

I bought this item based on all the good reviews on getting a good purple color on cold process soap. The alkanet I received seems old, the poweder itself has a browish coloration, made my soap turn brown. The alkanet I received is not fresh.

Use for making soap. It gives a beautiful purplish colour.
