Fun book that teaches well
I love this book. I use it to teach Unity from in my classes on the program.Ryan has a pleasant way of presenting the infos and knows what he is doing. There are some spots where I think he could have "streamlined" his presentation a bit more, but all in all this book delivers what it advertises.Unity is a huge program and one book is not going to teach you everything you need to know. That's impossible. This book WILL get you grounded with the fundamentals and THAT is its strength. In the end, I highly recommend this title. After reading it one will be ready to branch out or go deeper and more importantly will have a much better idea of where to go and what to do.

Excellent Book for Starting out with Unity.
I'm a software engineer with more than 30 years of experience programming in a wide variety of languages, but I'm new to Unity. I've been using XCode, Cocos2D, Kobold2D and most recently Corona for building apps, but I thought that Unity would be a useful additional to my arsenal of skills. This book is extremely well written - the author uses a lot of humor to get his point across, and his explanations of Unity functions are clear and precise, with no extraneous info that might confuse the beginner. Every step is broken down and explained, and builds on the previous step, and at the end of each chapter you really feel like you've learned something valuable and can then go and experiment with it more fully. Highly recommended.

You can't get there from here.
To borrow a line from an original adventure game... The problem with this book is that the author does not concentrate on showing you what you can do with the freeware version of Unity. The very first example "game" uses a package from Unity Pro which you are only allowed to use freely for 30 days after which you will have to fork over a flat $1500 or $75 dollars a month for the privilege of seeing how nice that ball bounces. So, unless you have deep pockets, are creative and very imaginative and have lots of game ideas you might want to think again before buying this book!In addition to this the book is full of typo's common to books published by this particular company. I have some of their other books and this editing sloppiness is common to all of them. So, not only do you pay top dollar for the book but you then have to go onto their website to find out how many errors you are going to have to deal with as you go through the book.

Great book written with brilliant humor!
I can't remember how many times I've burst laughing while going through the tutorials in this book.Ryan's amazing sense of humor greatly complements the content of the book.Because the book is so entertaining I always had an urge to continue the exercises, also this playful, funny mood of the book makes you grasp everything VERY well.It took me only 18 days to fully finish all the chapters. No prior knowledge required in games or programming. What can be better in educating yourself than to learn a complex subject in a very fun way?I highly recommend this book for the beginners.

Exactly what is needed in this world full of too many theoretical approaches
From the start of the book, I knew this was what I wanted. The book itself is great because it guides you through making a concrete game from start to finish. I love how the author inject some of his own humor into it as well. It makes you feel as if he is holding your hand through the process, like a good friend guiding you through your journey. This is certainly a book I'll be referencing for years to come.

The best concise book for Unity3D
I did several online courses and also read several books on Unity3D. This is by far the best book out there for beginner or those with some basic knowledge of Unity like myself. It is very concise, yet easy to follow and understand. The projects are of good variety and you can build on it to make your own games after you are done with the book! I hope the author will release more books like this one (e.g. Unity for advanced programmers).

Great introduction to Unity and game development in general
Light hearted read, and very focused on the practical and feasible implementation of a game. The emphasis on starting with a small game mechanic and completing a small game makes the learning process and accomplishment all that rewarding.Highly recommended , even for advance programmers and developers, because many a times we tend to forget its is the basics that makes a game fun and complete.

Not a beginners book
Way too complex and difficult to understand for a complete beginner. Also keep in mind this book explains in Javascript and most Triple AAA titles are written in C++. So yeah...

I have had a quick look through it but it ...

Pratical game development book!
This book will take you to a fast-development journey. Each chapter guides you to build something tangible and useful. With few chapters you have two nice games, giving you more courage to go to the end.More than just know about the development, the author helps you to build a start-small-and-finish mindset, that will help you to keep on track and not lose yourself doing impossible games.

If you are a complete newbie hoping to learn about ...
If you are a complete newbie hoping to learn about programming, you might be in for a rough ride as the author doesn't dwell very long and doesn't explain very thoroughly basic concepts such as loops, if statements, and variables. However if you know some about programming and just want to jump into Unity, this isn't a half-bad place to start, although you will be reading a few pages here and there on very basic concepts you already know.
