I love this stuff. I first bought this almost a year ago it was in like sept of 2013. I did not initially read the directions and instead i stupidly went off of what other people said on here in reviews and even on reviews on youtube. They all said to lather and rinse on my face like a normal face wash. Wrong. This method did not work for me and i didn't see any change in my acne so I of course put it in my medicine cabinet to collect dust. I don't know if the directions changed during the time between the publishing of those reviews and my receiving the product or what, but my directions are different, which i didn't figure out until about a week ago. The directions on my bottle say to leave the product on your face for 5-10 mins. Yes, my product says facial wash, not mask. Not even "facial wash and mask" just "facial wash". I had been using proactiv+ from about late march of this year until about june. Proactive made my skin look more agitated than before i started using it and it never got better so i went back to what i was using before, cerave. Cerave was better than proactiv but did not solve all of my problems. I still had breakouts whenever my skin decided to and my pores continued to be ginormous. Sooo one day last week i decided that i had nothing to lose and gave this product another try this time actually reading and following the directions. Presto, my skin looks better than it has in years. Im 19 and am sick of having to worry about my skin. This product is the only thing that has successfully and effectively cleared my pores. Ive tried countless masks and charcoal face washes but nothing. This was just perfect. Im not all the way there yet since its only been a week, but my skin seriously looks better than it has in years. I use this product twice a day everyday and leave it on for 5-10 mons usually ten but i start my soph year of college monday so that could change haha and it does not irritate my skin at all nor leave it dry at all but instead so smooth and soft. I love this stuff.

I'd bought this long ago and somehow it got lost in a drawer and unused. So glad I rediscovered it, it's nothing short of incredible. The soap is very dark and very thick! I pump it once in the palm of my hand and then initially apply it in 3 dollops, one to the forehead and then each cheek. I then smear it evenly to cover my face up into my hairline. It creates a coating that forms a sort of mask when left on for the 5 or 10 minutes as recommended. I like to apply it before stepping into the shower because it takes some vigorous rinsing and lots of water to remove it completely, made much simpler under the blast of the shower head. It seems to deep clean my skin like few other products I've used. I have normal to oily skin so can use it almost every day without causing dryness, though more sensitive skin types might need it only 3 or 4 times a week. When I alternately rinse it just over my sink, I was impressed with the apparent accumulation of surface skin cells liberated, I see in the water, so it has a definite gentle exfoliating factor. It's incredible how bar cleansers omit the word "soap" from their title, mainly because they're not soap but an accumulation of often harsh chemicals. Real soap is rendered from some fat source in a chemical process called saponification. What used to be considered simple "soap" which cleans gently, thoroughly and inertly now requires a more expensive specialty product. But in this case it's well worth it. It also contains rosehip oil which I incidentally apply nightly and buy seperately. Benefits of rose hip oil can be explored online but among other things, contains vitamin C which is one of the few things that encourages collagen regeneration. Very enthusiastic about this product and I now use it nightly.

I've been using this product for about three weeks now. I liked a sample that I was given from a friend so much, I bought a 4 oz bottle of it since the thought of being without it was unacceptable. Almost immediately, I noticed a significant difference in my skin. My makeup definitely went on easier and looked fresh. And now I am noticing several improvements. My pores have disappeared. The tiny blackheads around my nose are gone. Most of my new wrinkles (I'm 37) have disappeared. Overall, my skin looks much more youthful and smooth. I typically remove my makeup with coconut oil, cleanse with this cleanser, let it sit for 5 minutes, use a washcloth or my Clairsonic to remove the soap, and then moisturize with coconut oil. I use this as a daily cleanser and really like the tingling sensation it gives me. You can feel it removing all that gross, dead skin! This is definitely my favorite beauty product! Additional benefits that are important to me: no animal testing, glass bottle, 100% natural products.

I was excited to receive this soap, as I am switching to organic skin care products in an effort to better care for the body's largest organ. The soap is indeed "black" (more a dark brown). It smells interesting, not bad, but not really a "feminine" scent (doesn't contribute to my rating, just an observation). I removed two stars from my rating. The first star was removed because the soap leaves a noticeable film on the skin after rinsing thoroughly. I really don't like that filmy, tight feeling on my face, and I think that film may also contribute to clogged pores or other skin issues. The second star was removed because I have been trying to use this in the shower, and any type of water seems to cause the product to run straight down into my eyes...and it BURNS! I did not experience any noticeable skin irritation from this product, but I hesitate to continue using it because of the above issues. I really like the Purpose facial cleanser by Johnson & Johnson (I have used it for years now) and I may continue to use it. The Purpose cleanser leaves my face feeling clean without the tight skin or the filmy feeling. It's extremely gentle and dries out the oil from my acne-prone skin, but doesn't cause irritation or burn my eyes. It's also very inexpensive. In fairness I will try to use this cleanser again, and see if I can use it for at least two weeks. I will write another review after a more substantial testing.

I figured I would try out this new health and beauty fad, Black Soap, and came across this product. It already had some decent reviews and figured I could find a way to fit this into my daily cleansing routine. This stuff is VERY thick and is not just something you throw on and wash off. I would say it is more of a mask than a facial soap seeing as you need to keep it on for roughly 5-10 minutes before washing it off. Frankly, I don't really wait around for 5-10 minutes, I sort of put it on while waiting for the shower water to heat to a good temperature, then I hop in and do my hair and body before washing this stuff off of my face. The stuff does not smell good, but I don't think it is supposed to (and frankly, it doesn't matter). Have I seen any changes? No. Not yet. But I do feel a tingle when I put a lot on and wait a few minutes in the shower. The soap helps clear away dead skin and the tingle can attest to that. However, mind you, my only need for this product is just an added cleanser in hopes of anti-aging and perhaps keeping my pores as clean as possible. Good, natural product- easy to use.

This stuff is simply amazing! If I had not found it, I'd still be suffering with cystic acne and have the awful scars to show for it! I started using this almost two months ago. I received a sample in my birchbox and loved how smooth it made my face feel so I ordered a 4oz bottle off Amazon. It made my face "squeaky clean." I wash my face and body in the shower with A SheaMoisture African black soap BAR. When I get out of the shower, I pat dry my face so it's mostly dry but damp and then I apply the liquid sheaterra rose hips black soap! I rub it on and use as a mask for 5-10 minutes... At night I do it longer. And then rinse! After that, I use a 2.5% retinol serum (I use Eve Hansens fresh & radiant) this stuff helps to tighten your skin and help with any age spots, acne scar, or dark spot fading! And with this routine, my cystic acne has disappeared, and scars are slowly but surely disappearing!! Y'all, I have tried EVERYTHING for my cystic acne... Spent hundreds on expensive products that claimed to do the job but had no luck! At $14 a bottle for this soap, it's a STEAL in my opinion! I am forever thankful that this product was made and is so affordable! I will post before/after (now) pictures so you can see.

I've long been looking for a replacement for the Wonder Bar soap which was stupid expensive but did work. The Shea Terra bar is even better and a lot more affordable so I bought several more for family and friends. I have harsh lighting in my bathroom so I see all my flaws. After I started using this soap, I kept doing double takes when I'd look in my awful mirror because my skin looked so good. It's reduced my pore size, brightened my skin, cleared any eczema and it's a great makeup remover too. It also doesn't dry you out like the wonder bar did because of the tamanu oil in it. You may break out some when you first use it but it's bringing the trapped stuff in your skin out to be cleansed so don't panic because then it does calm everything down after that. It's a large bar for a great price and I can't get over how much of a difference it's making in my skin. Highly recommend it and thank you for making this product!

I first got a sample of this in a Goode box and didn't know what to make of it. Its dark, thick and a cross between sticky & gelatinous and not like any facial cleanser I've ever seen. Additionally, the instructions on the bottle seemed a bit too fussy for simple face washing. I finally chanced it one day when my skin was extra tender and was glad I did. I wet my face with splashes of water and massaged the cleanser over it in circular motions and then rinsed. There's honey in this so, of course, I worry about it being difficult to rinse off so I now use a cotton cosmetic pad to work the product over my skin before rinsing and there's no trace of it when I then go over my face with Shea Terra's Moroccan Rose Facial Water. Despite it not sudsing and feeling great on the skin it cleans thoroughly. I've never had an allergic reaction to it, my pores are clean & unclogged and my face isn't stripped to tightness. I also use this as a mask by applying it to clean, wet skin and letting it sit for up to 15 minutes. The result is smooth, soft skin. This brown goo is a winner.
