If you can't close the grips all the way then close them as much as you can. Eventually you'll get stronger. If you really want to waste $13 on some pointless extra piece of equipment why not just get 13 single dollar bills and roll them up into a small tube? Use that between your grips. This does absolutely nothing that you aren't already doing except take your money and make a tiny "clink" sound.
