You don't know how to use this lol
Let me preface this review with two things: first, I'm a licensed hairstylist. Secondly, I've been using Manic Panic since 1995. All of these bad reviews are because folks out here do not know how to use this product. Your hair absolutely must be a level 10. Borderline white... no yellow. Pre tonning is important as well. Learn about exposed hair pigment, porosity and the color wheel and this will give you a perfect cool tonned siker/grey color.

Amazing results for me!!!
Okay. Like everyone else and their mom, over the past 4 months I've picked up a few hobbies, or Quaran-talents as I call them. This was the summer of hair experiments, haha. Believe it or not, before Dark Star, I had used Atomic Turquoise and Voodoo Blue (I have reviews and pics for those too). I then went to this after naturally stripping (vitamin C powder mixed with anti-dandruff shampoo) and some more bleach. Manic Panic is truly THE best! I leave it on my dry hair with a shower cap for 2 hrs. For people saying it does not work, I'm not sure why. I naturally have dark brown hair. My before pics were super grown out highlights that were done last November. I had to bleeeach my hair a total of 3 times to get it to level 9ish blonde. Hair broke off and I had to trim it twice. I used a toner and the gray/ silver color I got is amazing. 2 days later I mixed a few drops of Voodoo Blue with a ton of conditioner for a Blue/Silver look. I only left it on for 10 minutes... their blue colors are powerful!! Manic Panic is a really fun and inexpensive way to mix it up. I've already received SO many compliments from coworkers over virtual meetings! I hope this review and pictures are helpful in making a decision regarding purchasing this product. If it was, please let me know below :)

Fun to use. Doesn't last long
This product really doesn't work on natural gray hair. It is easy to use and the color is great. I expected the package to be larger than it was.

Works Great to tone Orange level 6/7 hair to a pretty Mushroom Ash Brown.
I decided to try manic panic Dark Star as a toner. It came out as expected. I wanted to tone the red/orange out of my hair fast and blue shampoo doesn’t work as fast as I want. This gave me the exact hair color I want. I know it’s meant to be used at hair level 10 to get the grey purple results. That’s not what I was using it for. If anyone wants a pretty ashy mushroom brown color - it is achievable on level 6/7 hair. Remember to use a protein treatment first if you recently bleached so that the color will hold better.

Inconsistent and Uneven. Bummer
Purchased Darkstar Grey which is supposed to have a violet base. Applied to level 9np/8na hair. First application went on easily and processed for approximately 70minutes (video says it can stay on for hours without problem). Rinsed off with cool water. Major disappointment. Colour was inconsistent some strands having no colour and others would best be described as BLUE...not grey, not even violet. Grrr 2nd attempt applied low heat for 15min and then let sit for another 20min. Colour was finally grey but still blue undertones. I would call it Blue Steel before I’d name it Dark Star Grey. Again, colour inconsistent. My ends are lighter grey than roots which goes against hair color 101. Ends are always more porous and “grab” color with eagerness. Odd. Picture doesn’t give the blue tones justice but at least you can get an idea of how “not-dark” it will be after 2 applications (and heat). Unfortunately i will be returning to the developer+color method which always gave consistent results the first time. 3stars for ease of use (no developer), vegan and no animal testing.

awesome product
I love manic panic and in my opinion is the best brand if you want vibrant colors that last. easy to use, can use straight out of the jar with no other products needed. colors last and like I said are very vibrant. colors are always more vibrant if you pre bleach your hair first. the lighter the hair the more vibrant the color. and the best part is you can leave this stuff on your hair for as long as you want to and it will never damage it. I usually leave it on over night and then wash it out in the morning and the color lasts for weeks.

Probably my least favorite Manic Panic color out of the many I've tried
I have short hair that's bleached white blond. When freshly applied, this dye is a lavender tinted steel grey, which I thought sounded pretty in theory but in actuality just made me look old, like my hair had gone 100% grey and I'd added a lavender color to it. I thought it might be better faded (I was envisioning a kind of platinum lavender color) but it was even worse: my hair had an unpleasant tarnished, yellowed cast to it underneath the faded pale grey and lavender color (and my hair does not normally have yellow tones like this when it's just bleached and not colored!). It also faded quite quickly, though admittedly I wasn't trying to preserve the color since I didn't like it; it might be longer lasting with care, but I was surprised at the rate of fading even so. I've used a lot of different Manic Panic colors before and usually like them, but this one was definitely an exception.

Great for natural gray and silver hair
I have natural “gray” hair (white hairs mixed with my faded natural medium ash brown). I have not bleached or altered my natural color. Wanted to give a review for all the silver-haired folks out there. This toner worked really nicely to give my hair a darker tone and remove the yellowish tones. I did an ombré effect by just toning the last four inches of my hair. Looks good and blends well. I’ll update once I’ve washed my hair to explain how it fades. If it fades out completely, I’ll try my whole head of hair. But don’t want to try that unless I’m confident it’ll wash out like their other toners do (blue steel and virgin white).

I love the color but I hate how fast it faded. Honestly if they somehow made a permanent dye of this color it would be my go to forever.

I have bleached hair and this helps to darker it when I need to look presentable and yet edgy.

Deja el pelo suave. El color que he comprado (dark star) lo he utilizado con pelos canosos, sin decolorar. He esperado una media hora y ha dejado un color muy suave, gris clarito. La próxima vez voy a intentar dejarlo más tiempo
