Good at the price
Yes it's an actual thermal camera, No it's not as good as the ones on tv.While the MLX90640 Thermal Camera Breakout did need a bit of soldering to get it connected to a raspberry pi, it's not rocket science.The provided GitHub library link has enough easy to follow instructions to get it displaying a picture on the screen - what you do with it after that is up to you and your programming skills. The 32x24 resolution is as good as you're going to get from a thermal camera without spending an awful lot more money at the moment, and with the 'standard' 55 degree model, it's enough to distinguish a person from the background at an indoor range of six meters or so.

In Kombination mit einer Raspicam und etwas Knobelei lassen sich nette Sachen anstellen wie hier im Bild,wie lange steht das Auto schon? Man sieht schön die Motortemperatur rot durch leuchten

Guter Preis, einfache Nutzung (an Arduino Uno u. ESP32)
Das Board hat ein gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis mit dem Sensor im Vergleich zu anderen Angeboten (sowohl mit gleichem Sensor als auch anderen, wie z.B. AMG8833).Auf dem ESP32 (teil eines TTGO T4-Boards mit Touchscreen) ist natürlich genug Platz und Rechenleistung, aber auch auf dem Atmega328 des Arduino Boards kann der Sensor genutzt werden dank Platzoptimierungsbemühungen eines Entwicklers nahmens "profounddevices" (einfach zusammen mit Sensor-Bezeichnung googlen).Wichtig: Bei Experimenten mit fremden Code vorher die EEPROM-Daten des Sensors sichern. Einige Beispielprogramme können diese mit mitgebrachten Daten eines falschen Sensors überschreiben.

Funktioniert, Software ok.
Nicht nur Spielzeug. Das dazugehörige Softwarepaket tut, was es soll.Es ist relativ einfach, auf dessen Basis eine Übertragung über das WLAN zu realisieren. Dann ist die Kamera sehr flexibel nutzbar.
